The Giza pyramid complex, also called the Giza Necropolis, is the site on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt that includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 km (8 mi) southwest of the city centre of Cairo. The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids built in ancient Egypt, and they have historically been common as emblems of ancient Egypt in the Western imagination. They were popularised in Hellenistic times, when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is by far the oldest of the ancient Wonders and the only one still in existence.

Khufu's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman; diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been found but the site has not been excavated.[4][5] The valley temple was connected to a causeway which was largely destroyed when the village was constructed.

The Great Sphinx of Giza, commonly referred to as the Sphinx of Giza or just the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Facing directly from West to East, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent the pharaoh Khafre. Cut from the bedrock, the original shape of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of blocks. It measures 73 m (240 ft) long from paw to tail, 20 m (66 ft) high from the base to the top of the head and 19 m (62 ft) wide at its rear haunches. It is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and is commonly believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of the pharaoh Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC).

Khafre's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple and the king's pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre. Several were found in a well in the floor of the temple by Mariette in 1860. Others were found during successive excavations by Sieglin (1909–10), Junker, Reisner,

The pyramid of Unas was built in the 5th Dynasty. Despite its size, this pyramid is very significant for having the first example of funerary texts known as Pyramid Texts. These texts were inscribed on the walls of the burial chamber and assisted the deceased pharaoh in his journey to the afterlife through instructive spells. As with most pyramids, two temples linked by a long causeway compose part of the pyramid complex. The remains of the valley temple can be seen at the modern entrance to the site of Saqqara. Much of the causeway, which was elaborately decorated, has been removed and reused by later kings, but a part of it still remains offering visitors a glimpse of what it once looked like.

Origin: Originally built for a vizier or high priest named Ihy, it was usurped by the Royal Princess Idut (believed to be the daughter of Pharaoh Unas) when she died.Wall Reliefs: The tomb is famous for its vibrant, vivid colors. The detailed carvings display ancient daily life, including agricultural scenes, livestock, fishing with nets, and even a rare, detailed carving of a hippopotamus giving birth.

100% Egypt with a super good guide

This trip was really great! 100% Egypt... pyramids, hieroglyphs, papyrus, and with a small surcharge also been inside the tombs of Sakkara. Our guide, Ali, was super! We got a lot of explanations about the pyramids and the hieroglyphs and moreover he was very caring and helpful. Did everything to give us a great day. Need scarves? Okay, we'll arrange an extra stop. Thank you!

Pyramids with Wings Tour

A 10 and praise to our Ali! Super prepared, kind and helpful guide! Well organized and complete tour. A bit tiring from an organizational point of view because the sites to visit in a day are several and the distances are a bit long. The only flaw is the lunch not of excellent quality (and done at 17). Otherwise super recommended!

Experienced and knowledgeable guide, great experience.

Ali is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. He walked us through the periods of ancient Egyptian history across the tour and shared precious details. It was a very customised, expertly curated experience. We travelled across the sites in a private car chauffeured by Ahmad. Highly recommended!
