Itinerary
Meet your guide in front of The Rudolfinum, a stunning neo-Renaissance building on the banks of the Vltava River, completed in 1884 and named after Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria. Today it serves a dual cultural purpose as home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra's Dvořák Hall and the Galerie Rudolfinum, a contemporary art exhibition space, making it one of the city's premier venues for both music and visual art. In front of the Rudolfinum, we meet in Jan Palach Square, named after the Czech student who set himself on fire in 1969 to protest the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia. It's a quiet, poignant space in the city center that also borders the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, blending remembrance with everyday academic life. From here, we have an iconic view of Prague Castle, and see it from the perspective most people living in the Old Town of Prague would have seen it for hundreds of years. After a short historical background, we make our way to the Charles Bridge.
Cross the amazing Charles Bridge: Step onto Prague's most iconic landmark, a Gothic stone bridge dating back to 1357, commissioned by Emperor Charles IV. As you cross the Vltava River, you'll be flanked by 30 baroque statues depicting saints and patrons, each with its own legend, including the famous bronze plaque of St. John of Nepomuk, said to bring good luck if touched. Your guide will share the bridge's rich history, from its construction using egg-based mortar (according to legend) to its role as a vital trade route connecting Prague's Old Town and Lesser Town. Soak in sweeping views of Prague Castle rising above the rooftops, and watch street artists and musicians add to the lively atmosphere. This is a perfect introduction to Prague's storied past before continuing on to the Castle district.
Together, we enter the largest ancient castle complex in the world, sprawling over 70,000 square meters and towering above the city. Founded in the 9th century, it has served as the seat of Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors, and today, the President of the Czech Republic. We explore through centuries of history as on the castle grounds, taking in the Gothic grandeur of St. Vitus Cathedral, whose spires dominate Prague's skyline and whose stained-glass windows include a stunning Art Nouveau piece by Alfons Mucha. We'll visit the Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of St. George, and the colorful, fairy-tale-like Golden Lane, once home to castle guards, goldsmiths, and famously, writer Franz Kafka. Your guide will bring the castle's turbulent and fascinating history to life, from royal coronations to the infamous defenestrations that helped spark European wars. This is the true highlight of any visit to Prague.
Descend from the castle into one of Prague's most enchanting neighborhoods, a beautifully preserved district of baroque palaces, cobblestone lanes, and hidden gardens tucked beneath the Castle Hill. Founded in 1257, it's one of the oldest parts of the city and largely escaped the ravages of modern development, giving it an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Wander past grand aristocratic residences like the Wallenstein Palace, now home to the Czech Senate, and admire the towering dome of St. Nicholas Church, a masterpiece of Prague Baroque architecture. Your guide will point out charming details easily missed on your own, from quirky house signs that once served as addresses to secret courtyards and passageways used by locals for centuries. With its quiet squares, embassy-lined streets, and views back up toward the castle, Malá Strana offers a slower, romantic contrast to the bustle of Old Town, perfect for soaking in Prague's storied charm.

We had a great day with Lyle. Super informative, the perfect amount of walking and information while giving us time and space to explore after. Would do again

I took this tour with a few friends, and it was the absolute highlight of our trip to Prague. Prague Castle is truly magnificent and our guide, Pavel, made the experience unforgettable. Pavel was outstanding—friendly, kind, and an incredible storyteller. He brought centuries of history to life with fascinating stories and made every stop engaging and easy to follow. The tour was informative without ever feeling overwhelming, and we had plenty of time to explore the castle and its beautiful interiors while learning about the people and events that shaped this incredible place. Even after taking a city tour of Prague, this was the perfect addition and gave us a much deeper appreciation of the city's history and culture. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. If you're visiting Prague, this is an absolute must-do. It was, without a doubt, the best part of our trip.
The best tours leave you with more than just photos—they leave you with stories to remember! 😊 We’re so happy Pavel helped you discover the history and beauty of Prague Castle in such an engaging way. Thanks again for joining us! Until next time, happy exploring! Tricia | SANDEMANs Team
I’ve joined over 20 sandemans walking tours in the past and almost always enjoyed them. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. A) Wrong info - Wrong instructions on Sandemans website to pre-purchase transport ticket (the website also listed the old price making it confusing to ensure I did buy the right one). Considering I rushed to pre-purchase the ticket right before the tour, it was annoying to immediately be told it’s included. B) Tour guide approach to wrong info - When I raised the info on the website, I was dismissed by the guide Lyle who simply complained about how the website is wrong and how he paid marketing fee to Sandemans. Nothing mentioned about reaching out to sandemans to ensure this is fixed for future tours. When I also tried to raise that the price listed on the website was wrong and confusing, he cut me off. I tried to explain 4 times and each time he simply cut me off and refused to let me finish a single sentence. Mind you, the tour hasn’t even begun yet so I wasn’t disrupting the tour. C) Tour guide style - The tour wasn’t the most interesting, the guide had a tendency to simply throw facts at you talking quickly as his guiding style (similar with the free walking tour with the same guide) as if quoting 1000 facts in 5 mins alone was all it took to engage a crowd and impress. I’ve attended many sandemans tours whereby the guide is able to engage, tie themes and main takeaway points and key events together in a cohesive and easy to understand manner. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. While the guide was helpful after the tour in directing us out of the castle area, ultimately the tour wasn’t of the standard I have come to expect from Sandemans.
Dear MayJea, Thanks for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback, and thank you for joining more than 20 of our tours over the years. Hearing that you've had so many great experiences with us makes it even more disappointing that this tour didn't meet the standard you've come to expect. Regarding the transport ticket information, thank you for bringing this to our attention. As soon as we received your feedback, we updated the information on our website so future guests won't face the same confusion. Your comments genuinely helped us improve the experience, and we really appreciate you taking the time to point it out. We're also sorry that your concerns before the tour left you feeling dismissed. While our guides don't have access to or authority over the website content, they do pass operational feedback on to our team, and that's exactly how we were able to identify and correct the issue. That said, we completely understand that this wasn't your experience, and we would have preferred that you felt listened to from the start. We're equally sorry that Lyle's guiding style wasn't the right fit for you. Every guide has their own way of presenting history, and while many guests enjoy a fact-filled approach, we understand that others prefer a more connected, storytelling style. We always aim to deliver engaging experiences, so we'll make sure your comments are shared with him as constructive feedback. Thank you again for your honesty and for your continued support over the years. Loyal guests like you help us maintain the quality we're known for, and we truly hope we'll have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience on your next tour. Best wishes, Ewelina SANDEMANs Tours
It does not actually include an interior tour. Otherwise, it was interesting and fun. Our guide was helpful and knowledgeable.
We had Brandon as our tour guide and he was amazing! We learned so much about Prague's history and he was extremely knowledgeable and engaging! Highly recommended this tour to anyone that is visiting!
Disappointed in the guide. While he was very nice, he lacked energy and we found him very difficult to understand, he was Engligh speaking but with very strong accent that made it hard to understand much of what was said. Additionally beginning of the tour was stopped in close proximity to nearby fast driving traffic which also contributed to difficulty hearing/understanding. Would have liked to been able to engage and understand more.
Dear Lisa_G, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty following the tour and that it affected your overall experience. We understand how important it is for guests to clearly hear the guide and enjoy the stories behind the places they visit. We appreciate your positive comment about the guide being friendly, and we'll also share your feedback about the volume, communication style, and the stopping points with our local team. Many guests love the Prague Castle tour, so we're sorry that this experience did not meet the standard you were hoping for. Thank you again for taking the time to let us know. Feedback like this helps us continue improving our tours. Best wishes, Ewelina SANDEMANs Team
Jan was very knowledgeable and super friendly. He made the tour a great experience. Our only disappointment was that when we booked, entry fee to the church was included but when we got there, were told it was an error and should not have been included so we did not get to enter the church. Very disappointed in the tour company but NOT Jan’s fault.
David a total freak! It took us to the Castle being a very large group, with a lot of order and attention, but above all giving us a lot of information, with luxury of details and stories that really made the experience very valuable. Thank you David!!!
Your was good, considering it was a very wet day...all outdoors no interior tour included.toir guide was friendly and helpful
