Pompeii and Herculaneum led by an Archaeologist with private transport

Description
This tour consists of a marvelous walk in the company of a competent archaeologist and professional guide through the ancient Roman cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii, buried by the ashes of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Relax in comfortable transportation in a private minivan. A visit to Herculaneum offers a unique experience; although smaller than Pompeii, it is much better preserved. Buried under 20 meters of mud, it still retains second stories, carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings, and mosaics. With our guide's detailed explanations, the city will come to life before your eyes. Pompeii, on the other hand, provides a more extensive exploration. Walking through its streets, you will feel as though the town is still alive. Your guide will share the fascinating history of the city and illustrate how the Romans lived, leading you to the most significant public buildings and private houses. The house receives its name from marble statues of stags/deer found in the peristyle.
M. Nonius Balbus was the city's major benefactor restoring and building many public buildings. On his death he was made patron and feted with many honours, detailed in the long inscription on his funeral altar.
It is thought that the building was a centre of the cult of the Emperor Augustus and the headquarters of the Collegium Augustalium (or possibly even the local curia).
The Central Thermae were built around the beginning of the 1st century AD and were divided, as was then the common practice, into men's and women's baths, each with their own separate entrances.
The house possibly belonged to one of the town's leading benefactors, Marcus Nonius Balbus and is somewhat unusual in that it has its own private access to the adjoining Suburban Thermae to the south.
The House of the Skeleton probably the aggregation of three smaller buildings, derives its name from the discovery of human remains in a second floor room in 1831.
The House of the Black Hall is one of Herculaneum's more luxurious mansions. The house has a monumental entrance which still retains the carbonised remains of the doorposts and lintel.
It is very important house for the elegant wooden partition remained.
The house has an arrangement that was typical of the Samnites (an ancient people of the Sabine race who occupied this mountainous part of central Italy). The splendid atrium is skirted by a gallery with Ionic columns. The rooms are decorated with frescoes.
This is one of the most original houses in Herculaneum. It has a courtyard with a stairway and a stone balcony instead of an atrium.
Beautiful domus in the Centre of the archaeological area, with various environments, collonnati, frescos e-com everywhere at Herculaneum-charred remains of wooden parts. Drop off at your accommodation in Naples, Salerno, Sorrento or Amalfi Coast.

We just completed the Herculaneum and Pompeii tour with our guide Anna S. and driver Pasquale, and it was truly a highlight of our time in Italy. Anna was exceptional. An architect by profession, who guides visitors through the ruins in her off-season or spare time, she brought an extraordinary depth of knowledge and perspective to the experience. Her insights into the history of these remarkable cities, the architecture, and the painstaking reconstruction and preservation efforts were intelligent, nuanced, and deeply engaging. Beyond her expertise, Anna was bright, cheerful, warm, and wonderfully approachable. She guided our group of 18 at a relaxed and comfortable pace, making sure no one ever felt rushed or overwhelmed. Her passion for the sites and for sharing their stories was evident throughout the day. Special mention as well to our driver Pasquale, who made the day smooth and stress-free from beginning to end. We highly recommend this tour. If you book with Askos, absolutely ask for Anna S. She was terrific.
Our archaeologist guide was great. He gave us rich information on the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The driver was quick and always attentive to our needs. I highly recommend this private experience!!
This tour was absolutely brilliant, picked up and dropped off near the termini in Naples by the lovely Pasquale , who delivered us all there and back safely. Michele was our guide who knew everything about everything!!! He was patient and knew the answers to all our questions . So glad we added Herculaneum too , it’s a smaller site but just as fascinating , we got quite emotional learning about people’s lives etc. We came away knowing so much more than when we started all due to Michele, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone , certainly worth the money and a truly great day out .
This tour was exceptional! We had a professional driver, Luigi who navigated the bustling traffic around Naples with ease. Antonio, our archaeologist tour guide was a wealth of knowledge and cultivated our experience with our interests. We highly recommend this tour! We had an amazing experience and will never forget this day!
Sergio was brilliant, lots of information, well paced, plenty of time to enjoy the sights - I don't think I would have appreciated Pompeii as much without all the extra context
This was the most amazing experience. Sergio, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience quite special. I would recommend this 100%. It is an experience of a lifetime, especially if you appreciate history.
Sergio was absolutely awesome. He gave us many details that really painted a picture of life in Herculaneum and Pompeii.
Fabulous day all round. Efficient travel and organisation all day. Herculaneum and Pompeii were actually quite quiet - I was expecting crowds so pleasantly surprised. Sergio, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He showed us some great spots and we all felt that we learned so much. Lunch at the Maximall worked out really well too. Thank you.
The best guided visit we’ve ever done! Our guided, Gennaro, was absolutely fantastic - so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This was on my bucket list to see and I’m so glad we booked through Askos Tours. So so good!
An amazing tour full of wonderful insights from our guide Sergio! Couldn't have asked for better really. Learned so much that I would've have had a clue about without such an excellent guide.
