Pisa to Lucca Self-Guided Bike Tour Along the Puccini Trail
Description
This tour connects two of Tuscany’s most iconic cities through a scenic route combining nature, culture, and history. Starting in Pisa, you’ll follow cycle paths and quiet roads along the Serchio River to Lucca. Ride on the famous Renaissance Walls, explore the charming historic centre, and discover landmarks such as Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, the Guinigi Tower, and Via Fillungo. Complete your visit by tasting some of Lucca’s delicious local specialties. Tour distance: approximately 28 km to Lucca and 28 km back to Pisa. Alternatively, you can return to Pisa by regional train, taking your bike with you (a bike supplement applies in addition to the train ticket). Bike drop-off in Lucca is available for an additional fee (please ask at the bike rental for details). - A security deposit will be required at the check-in - No E-bikes available for people under 145cm - Please bring your ID card or Passport and your material credit card

Tuttomondo (1989) is one of the last public murals executed by Keith Haring before his death and one of the few outdoor public works created by the artist for permanent display.
The little church is a delightful architecture built in gothic style and located right on the southern bank of the river Arno.

Commissioned by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, its 900+ majestic brick arches create a mesmerizing visual line across the Tuscan countryside.
San Giuliano Terme: The Gateway to Wellness and History Nestled at the foot of the Monti Pisani, San Giuliano Terme is a charming spa town renowned since Roman times for its healing thermal waters. Famous as a prestigious retreat for European royalty and poets like Shelley and Byron during the 18th century, it remains a jewel of relaxation and elegance.
The Puccini Cycle Path: A Symphony of Nature and Music Named after the legendary opera composer Giacomo Puccini, this enchanting cycle path follows the Serchio River, connecting the historic walls of Lucca. It’s a flat, easy, and incredibly scenic route that immerses you in the landscapes that inspired world-famous operas like Tosca and Madama Butterfly.

We used Google maps , hired bikes from Lucca, enjoyed the trails and the roads. There were 5 of us. Two on acoustic bikes, three on E-bikes. The trails are great, on the roads some car drivers not so great (we rode in single file) but overall definitely recommend cycling to and from Lucca-Pisa. Screen shots of my Strava routes here
We don't use google maps for our customers, but we give a different App with our own tested itinerary. We are located in Pisa and not in Lucca, we have a suspect that probably you didn't take the bikes from us!

Excellent service, came from SF and rented a bike to go to the beach. Worked out very well. Helmet and phone holder were extra. No complaints

Rented a bike from Smile & Ride and cycled from Pisa to Lucca. The whole experience was excellent. The bike was in great condition, comfortable, and perfect for the ride. The staff were friendly, helpful, and gave useful advice for the route. The cycle path between Pisa and Lucca is beautiful and easy to follow.
