An interesting way to travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. Our driver Va and our host on the boat Samet were both FANTASTIC, informative, knowledgeable and great company. We got to see a lot of the country on the driving part (around 4-5hrs) stopping at some fascinating places, whilst the boat was leisurely and gave us a different perspective altogether. Our lunch was delicious, freshly made and we enjoyed a couple of beers whilst relaxing on deck. The highlight of our journey however was our time spent with Va and Samet, who gave us an extraordinary insight into this incredible country and the resilience of its wonderful people. Thank you both, it was a pleasure to meet you.
Dear Franwardlee, Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful review of your journey between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. I am thrilled to hear that Va and Samet made such a positive impression; they truly embody the spirit of our team, and I’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to them. We believe that the journey should be just as memorable as the destination, so it’s wonderful to know you enjoyed the contrast between the scenic road tour and the relaxing time on the water. We take great pride in our fresh local lunch and, of course, providing that 'different perspective' of the Cambodian countryside. Safe travels, and we hope to welcome you back to the river again soon! Best regards, The Team at Tara Riverboat"
Everything was correct: answers in advance, pick up at hotel with tuktuk, boat trip, lunch, drinks, travel guidance, nice trip along the way, beautiful car for the last part, trip along the way again and safe arrival. Well organized. The travel experience was also fine, excellent alternative to a boring bus trip on flight. Sad to see that we were the only ones on the boat and in the car because of the unrest / war in the Middle East. Many tourists are unable or unwilling to come because the majority of flights go through the Middle East. The tourism industry is suffering from this. Highly recommended.
Thank you very much for the wonderful 5-star review! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We’re delighted to hear that everything—from the tuk-tuk pickup, boat journey, lunch and drinks, to the guide, excursions, and the final transfer by car—met your expectations. Our team works hard to make the journey between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap more than just transport, but a real travel experience along the river and countryside. Although tourism numbers are a little quieter at the moment due to global events, it also means guests sometimes enjoy a very personal and relaxed trip, almost like a private cruise. We’re glad you were able to experience Cambodia this way and still see the beauty of the river, the villages, and life along the way. Thank you again for choosing to travel with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Cambodia one day. Safe travels and warm wishes from our whole crew! 🚤🌏
Better than expected was not sure what to expect but glad we did it

Had an incredibly nice day. I was picked up on time at my hotel by a very friendly driver and guide. The guide spoke excellent English and informed me well how the day would go. They used very comfortable bus. Along the way they stopped regularly for a pee break. Arriving at the boat, my bike and luggage were carried on board and there was also lunch ready. Yeah, great how they did it. The guide told all the interesting things about things we encountered along the way. Once arrived in Ho Chi Minh city with everything neatly carried off board. Yeah, nothing but praise, really.

We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to your driver and guide — they’ll be very proud to hear this. Thank you again for travelling with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another journey in the future. Safe travels!. cheers Peter
We used the Tara River Boat Cruise from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap at the beginning of the month. I would highly recommend this as a road alternative. Peter and his team were easy to communicate with, super attentive and the whole experience was very relaxing. The cruise part of the day is fascinating, watching the world go by on the river and the lunch we were served was delicious.

This was a great way to really see Cambodia. I travelled 4.5 hours in a car from Siem Reap and the next 4.5 hours on a river cruise down the Mekong into Phnom Penh . It was relaxing, food was delicious on board and we had a chance to look at a silver smith and then a Buddhist monastery and temple on the way. Highly recommend as a way to get between these two cities. Samath was a wonderful host and guide. Thank you for a wonderful day exploring your country.

4.5 hr van ride from SR to boat. 4.5 hour ride on boat to Phnom Penh. Long day but wonderful opportunity to see the countryside, and boat was awesome. Stop at silversmiths shop at boat launch. Beautiful lunch served on the boat and Samath, our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He stopped the boat to tour Buddhist temple along the way, an opportunity to see a countryside temple.

Tara Riverboat Cruises were a delight to deal with from start through finish. The company has been somewhat impacted by world events (covid, limited tourism etc) but it does not stop them going all out on the service front. Pre-tour, all my communication was done with Peter via email. The lad is a real gem, professional to a fault and clear with communication. He will keep you well informed of any and all information you require leading up to the event. I travelled one-way from PP to SR. I was picked up in a very lux tuk-tuk from my hotel doorstep exactly when described and shuttled through the city to meet my chariot for the day. On arrival I was introduced to the ABSOLUTE LEGEND that is Sameth, my guide for the day. Sameth assisted me on to the boat, showed me around, and told me a little of his personal history and how Cambodia is growing and changing through recent history. I was INCREDIBLY FORTUNATE to be the -only passenger- on board for the up-river leg of the trip. This means I had the run of the boat, many places to choose from to sit and take in the sights, and a few beers to salute the sun with. The team also served an exemplary lunch (I genuinely felt like a king whilst on board) which I hope wasn't just entirely over the top as they cooked for one. My trip took me up the Tonle Sap River, past a mixture of slum housing and new-built empire. Cruising the river is a great way to discover the contrasts of Cambodian life, and to learn more about how modernisation and political discourse have the power to change a country. I thoroughly appreciated Sameth's banter, honesty and openness on this trip, and will always be grateful for the luck of having him as a guide. The end of the river cruise is at Moni Sakor Pagoda and surrounding village, just south of a floating village that spans the width of the river (be prepared for photos - you'll disembark before you know it). The small village makes its trade on silver- and copper-smithing, where a lot of the work is done by hand. You will hear hammers and nails working throughout the streets on arrival, and will likely be taken through Srey Orun workshop. Be on notice; the jewelry is beautiful, and the price is for silver by the gram. The second leg of the journey is a 4hr+ (depending on pit stops) car ride to SR. My driver for the afternoon was Tinah (whom regrettably I've lost his WhatsApp number!!), a calm and chatty lad who has a lot of knowledge to share about the local area, industry, and people. Our ride was spent listening to and learning from one another, as well as listening to some absolutely classic Bob Marley and Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks. My kind of guy. As a treat, Tinah also stopped off at a few quick points of interest (including getting a roadside dessert of sticky rice cooked in a bamboo shaft, which I inhaled). The trip takes all day, and you will arrive exhausted to your next destination, but the whole experience is incredibly worthwhile. Do consider supporting this small company, as it's well worth the price for what you gain in knowledge and satisfaction. Thank you again for an incredible adventure.
Thank you Adam for your fantastic and detailed review of our Phnom Penh to Siem Reap cruise/road tour, with all our tours of the lake and rivers we try to make them as real and unique as possible, i will pass on your awesome review and wish you safe travels always Adam a real pleasure to have you on board cheers Peter
