Itinerary
Walk through Dotonbori street with its huge billboards, hundreds of restaurants and food stalls selling local foods including the famous Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.
A 150 meter long shopping street lined with specialty stores with every cooking utensil and kitchen item available. This arcade with its variety of appliances, tableware and cooking accessories provides an interesting counterpoint to the nearby fresh food market at Kuromon Ichiba and can also be a good spot for picking up some unique souvenirs.
Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street is a must-visit in Osaka. This giant shopping arcade of cosmetics stores, apparel shops, and restaurants extends 600 meters. This has been a bustling center of retail since the mid-18th century when famed kimono shop Matsuya opened what later became Daimaru Department Store. The development of Shinsaibashi-suji parallels the growth and change in its host city Osaka . Walk down Shinsaibashi-suji to experience Japan's love of consumer retail. You can walk south down Shinsaibashi-suji to reach the neon-lit Dotonbori Bridge!
The most famous fish at Kuromon Market are the conger pike in summer and Fugu in winter. At least 10% of the seafood shop in Kuromon specialize in Fugu and Hamo. A lively and roofed market which stretches about 580m, there are about 150 shops and is always bustling with people. This market has everything you want. From fresh seafood, blow fish and soft shelled turtle specialty shops, to restaurants, fruit and vegetables shops, butchers, pickled goods, dried food, Japanese sweets and Western cakes.
Osaka's Sumiyoshi Taisha (住吉大社, "Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine") is one of Japan's oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Only two other shrine architecture styles are also considered purely Japanese: Shinmei-zukuri as seen at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri as seen at Izumo Taisha.
Shitennoji (四天王寺, Shitennōji) is one of Japan's oldest temples and the first ever to be built by the state. It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who supported the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. Although the temple's buildings burned down several times throughout the centuries, they were always carefully reconstructed to reflect the original 6th century design. The outer temple grounds are free to enter, but admission to the inner precinct, the Gokuraku-jodo Garden and the treasure house is paid. In the pebble covered courtyard of the inner precinct stand a five-storied pagoda that can be entered and ascended and the Main Hall (Kondo) in which Prince Shotoku is enshrined as a statue of Kannon.
The Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル) is a spectacular high rise building in the Kita district of Osaka, near Osaka and Umeda Stations. It is also known as the "New Umeda City". The 173 meter tall building consists of two towers that are connected with each other by the "Floating Garden Observatory" on the 39th floor. The observatory offers great views of the city through its windows and from its open-air deck. In the basement, there is a restaurant floor that replicates a town of the early Showa Period, while offices occupy most other floors.
Osaka Castle is certainly one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, and for good reason. This five-story castle is one of the most visually spectacular creations in the country, with a history that dates back almost 450 years!
The National Museum of Art, Osaka (also known as NMAO) is an underground museum housing a major art collection on the island of Nakanoshima in central Osaka.
Shinsekai , the New World, with it’s Tsutenkaku, the Osaka Eiffel tower, kushikatsu and Billiken , the God of wealth and money. Shinsekai is also home to Spa World, a huge bath complex with a large number of pools on a European themed floor and an Asian themed floor (enjoyed naked and gender separated).
Keitakuen Garden is a traditional Japanese landscape garden located within Tennoji Park in Osaka, Japan. Designed in the early 20th century, it features a central pond, meticulously arranged rocks, seasonal plants, and pathways that reflect classic Japanese aesthetics. The garden offers a peaceful retreat from the city, with scenic views of the nearby Osaka skyscrapers creating a unique blend of nature and urban life.

There is much to do in Osaka so carefully choose 3 or 4 sights to visit. Yuki was a great tour guide and she communicated with us before the tour to find out what we wanted to see and do. She was knowledgeable about the city and its history.
Our tour guide Shuji was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and made sure we were able to see everything that we wanted while in Osaka. He even took my 5 year old into consideration and took us to the Pokémon store since he is a Pokémon fan. I would definitely recommend him as a tour guide.
My brother and I had the most incredible tour with our guide Sachiko yesterday. We learned the history of Osaka castle, saw Shitennouji temple, Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine, and Shinsekai. It was so nice being able to easily navigate the public transportation with the help of our guide. She also took the most incredible pictures and air dropped them at the end of the day. She made sure to point out several restroom stops along the way and offered to let us stop for food or drinks. We had the most incredible day and learned so much about Japanese history and culture.
Thank you very much for your kind review! It made me so happy and encouraged. I also really enjoyed capturing the wonderful bond between you two through my camera lens. I hope Osaka remains a beautiful and memorable part of your trip! Sachiko
Rie did a great job showing us a park with a waterfall and good places to eat outside of Dotenbori. She made sure we got on the right bus to get back to the Diamond Princess on time.
Thank you so much for your kind review! I also enjoyed visiting the waterfall, so thank you for requesting it. But it's a shame you couldn't buy "Uncle Rikuro's Cheesecake." I should have taken you there before we went to the waterfall. So, next time for sure! Please give my regards to your family member:) Rie
Great way to experience the key sights of Osaka. Our guide Miyuki-san took us to Osaka castle and showed us the best photo spots and also a miniature figure museum we certainly would have missed.
I appreciate your kind and considerate review, which made me very happy. I am glad to know you have enjoyed the tour. Yes, the figure museum was really great. Osaka has many attractions. I'm glad you were able to enjoy some of them. I also had a very good time with you. Yuki
Kaeko was the perfect guide for Osaka! She was extremely knowledgeable and so very friendly. We were able to get a great one day glimpse into the city’s history, culture, and food. We highly recommend!
Thank you for your kind comments! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed our tour. I also enjoyed it, too. We were very lucky since Osaka Castle was not so crowded as I had expected. And I was glad that I was able to show you Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine with not so many people and we were able to enjoy it to the fullest. Anyway I hope that ours will be one of the most memorable tours for you. Thank you so much! - Kaeko
Very good blend of old, culturally diverse stops along with more modern history, a very authentic lunch spot finished off with a walk through very vibrant market district
I appreciate your kind and considerate review, which made me very happy. I am glad to know you have enjoyed the tour. I have also had a very good time with you. I wish all the best to you and your family. - Yuki
Yuki was wonderful and an absolutely lovely person. Her enthusiasm was fantastic. I went with my husband and our dear friend and we felt we saw a lot of Osaka in the 6 hour tour. Yuki’s English is a bit difficult to understand but she led us to amazing sites and we had a fun day! My husband wrote a song for Yuki :)
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the Osaka tour. The song your husband wrote is truly amazing! It's the first song written for Guide Yuki. I'll cherish it forever ❤ It seems I still have a lot of room for improvement in my English. I don't have any experience studying abroad, and at home I mainly learn new vocabulary by reading English newspapers, but my spoken language needs to be simpler. Thank you for teaching me something so important. - Yuki
A great 6 hour tour of Kyoto with Taka Sakai. He was professional, knowledgeable, relaxed and easy to be with the whole day. Given that Kyoto is so busy I’d definitely recommend this tour with a knowledgeable guide to maximise your time
Thank you so much for your lovely review. I’m so glad that you enjoyed your stay here. Come again someday, there’s still lot to see and do! Thank you, - Taka
We had an exceptional experience with our private guided tour in Japan, thanks to Taka. He was incredibly considerate and patient throughout the day, and never made us feel rushed—in fact, he generously spent more time with us than originally scheduled to ensure we had the best possible experience. Taka went above and beyond by helping us navigate logistics seamlessly and even made sure we got to our next destination without any stress. One of the highlights was the authentic Japanese restaurant he took us to for lunch —something we would never have discovered on our own. Communication was excellent from the very beginning. We had several emails back and forth to organize the day; Taka was able to provide recommendations and was very accommodating of my request for sites off the beaten path. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Highly recommend!
