Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings

Description
Most visitors to Oaxaca never experience the city’s nighttime food scene when neighbourhood grills fire up, late-night vendors appear, and regional specialities take centre stage. This tour dives straight into the dishes locals actually eat after dark, far from restaurant dining rooms and tourist-focused menus. With 14+ tastings across 7–8 authentic stops, you’ll sample everything from lechón tacos and oversized tlayudas to mole-filled tamales, tetelas, garnachas, and mezcal-soaked sweets. These are real neighbourhood spots, beloved by locals and largely unknown to travellers. It’s a flavour-packed, after-hours look at Oaxaca’s culinary identity, and the most authentic way to experience the city at night.

Itinerary
Our Oaxaca food tour offers guests a culinary experience around the city's medina. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by our team of Oaxaca tastemakers. Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine, and the limitations of street food vendors and local eateries mean we cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed: ✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and no pork diets as the number of tastings would be very limited. ✔ Gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, mild nut allergies and no seafood diets are possible, though some tastings do not have alternatives available If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!
This evening food tour explores Oaxaca after dark, when the city’s street food scene is at its liveliest. As grills fire up and market stalls fill the air with smoke and aroma, you’ll dive into the heart of local food culture. With 14+ tastings included, this experience offers a crash course to Oaxaca’s flavours. The tour begins with classic street foods such as cheesy campechano tacos, tangy piedrazo served with quesillo, and earthy tetelas filled with huitlacoche. As the walk continues, you’ll sample bolder dishes including crisp garnachas, rich tamales de mole, tender tacos de cabeza, and slow-cooked lechón served in both tacos and tortas. Later tastings include Oaxaca’s iconic tlayuda topped with tasajo, smoky grilled tortillas with meat. The experience also features warming champurrado, a guided mezcal tasting, and finishes with classic Mexican flan. This guided evening walk offers an authentic way to experience Oaxaca’s food scene though the eyes of a local.
The tour concludes after 3.5-4 hours in Mercado Benito Juárez . You'll leave not only full, but with a much deeper understanding of Oaxacan food culture and the confidence to continue eating your way through Mexico.

One of the best experiences I had in Oaxaca! If you really want to know Oaxacan cuisine beyond the tourist spots, this tour is a must. The guides were incredible: very kind, attentive, and with impressive knowledge of the history, culture, and food of Oaxaca. At each stop, they explained the origin of the dishes, the ingredients, and the traditions, making each tasting have a special meaning. What I liked the most was the variety of the route. We went from small stands on a corner that I probably would have never discovered on my own, to high-end restaurants, without failing to visit several of the most emblematic stands in Oaxaca. Each place had something unique to offer and everything was delicious. At first, I thought that since these were tastings, I might end up hungry, but it was quite the opposite. The portions are very well planned, and by the end of the tour, I was completely satisfied. More than a food tour, it is an experience to know the essence of Oaxaca through its flavors and the people who make them possible. I would recommend it 100% to anyone visiting the city. I would definitely do it again!
Tried many different foods at many different places, checking off most of them from my" must taste" list. Informative, fun, friendly, delicious. Walking the streets of beautiful Oaxaca was an added bonus!
Excellent experience on the street food tour. We had so many tastings we had to share some toward the end as we were so full - so come hungry! It’s a great way to experience authentic street food without any fear and learn about many Oaxacan foods you likely would never come across or choose otherwise
Alexandra was great. All guests arrived slightly early so we started slightly early. We tried a lot of Oaxacan food with a mix of nice restaurants and food stalls, all are fantastic. Love the history and explanation alex provided to each food or dish. She was loud enough for everyone to hear (mentioning this as I had joined tours where tour guide is not audible) and her explanations were clear. Food and drinks were fantastic. Definitely recommend to join.
This is the BEST tour I have ever been on- to explore Oaxaca at night with Alejandra was a real treat. I learned about culture, history, and of course —food. We sampled so many different types of Oaxacan food and explored the city at night which is a completely different experience to day time Oaxaca. it was a wonderful wonderful experience. I highly highly recommended it.
Great food, great guide! The tour was even better than i expected and Dora was wonderful and is clearly passionate about Oaxacan culture and food. Arrive hungry and you still may have to pace yourself!
Dora was a fantastic guide! She was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food, Mexican history, and Oaxacan culture. She was patient with all of my questions, and great with the kids as well.
The tour was awesome, with tons of samples to taste. Very good information about the food and the culture made it an interesting walk about. She was extremely well spoken and has a wonderful attitude.
The food tour was a great street food experience. There were a few stops that were inside restaurants but even those were cool because they started out as street vendors and grew so much that they could get a restaurant so it was interesting to hear their story from humble beginnings. Each stop that we did was a great opportunity to meet local business owners and hear their story. The food was all great and nothing made me sick which I know is sometimes a concern for people and street food. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour does require some walking but I found that to be helpful in between stops to help with the food digestion. For this tour you get many stops so I think it is well worth the price. I would highly recommend this tour for those who want to get a true street food experience in Oaxaca.
This tour was fun and comprehensive - I learned a lot, tried so much, and saw the core of the city. My only complaint is that it was too much food!
