It has more than 50,000 artefacts, presenting Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the present day. The crown jewel of the museum is the Mummies Halls. The whole world has been amazed with the Pharaoh’s Golden Parade of 22 Royal Mummies from the Old Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to their new permanent residence in the National Museum of Civilization. Among the Mummies are mummies of King Ramses the second, Queen Hatshepsut, King Thutmos the third and Queen Ahmos Nefertary. The Royal Mummies Hall is specially designed to display the mummies of ancient Egypt. I’m surprised this museum hasn’t got more reviews, it’s exceptional! The upstairs is an interesting collection but the Royal Mummies downstairs are the real draw. We visited on the last day of our 2 week trip and I found it incredible to be face to face with the very people who had built the temples and tombs we had visited. It’s really well laid out but recommend go early before the crowds arrives, it was getting busy when we left and some tourists were behaving badly (speaking loudly and taking photos, both not allowed).
Must visit to Egypt . This exhibit features an impressive collection of mummies , artifacts, and interactive displays that transported us back in time. Videos and camera is not discoveredallowed though
The museum is good in general. The mummies section is great but should be under more control. Visitors don’t respect the fact that mummies are dead humans. The rest of the museum is not well organized and can use more displays.
An immense museum that they have built which is state of the art and where we can see all the mummies in a swankier display. The timings are a bit too weird as they close by 5 pm but they should look at extending it by couple of hours atleast.
We went on this tour on our first morning in Egypt and I'm so happy we did! It was the perfect way to get acclimated to the beautiful chaos that is Cairo. Sarah, our guide, was perfect. She was extremely knowledgeable and taught us all about the history of Khan al Khalili and the Pyramids. Her excitement in showing us all the history was contagious. Everyone request Sarah to be your guide!
Dear Katelyn, Thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed your tour with us. I’m sure that Sarah enjoyed helping and catering to your needs as much as you enjoyed your tour with her. Looking forward to welcoming you again in Egypt!
