Mythology, Philosophy and Democracy Tour

Description
From the realm of myths to the grounds of reason. The amazing journey of Ancient Greece from blind faith to the search of explanations for all things unknown! This is not the usual "touristy" tour but rather a philosophical walk, in between the ancient landmarks that provide the best scenery to overview this amazing transformation. The pre-Socratic philosophers gave us what may be regarded as the only true “discovery” in science: that our world can be understood through natural laws whose identification could enable humans to comprehend their surroundings, and even themselves… Let's explore together this fascinating shift in human perception and find out where we stand today!

This place was the heart of the city of Athens. Philosophers like Socrates, Plato, politicians like Solon, Themistocles, Pericles, Thucydides, Sophocles, Aristofanis, that consisted the “Dream Team” of Athens, prominent Athenians and simple citizens walked here and had discussions and debates for all matters.
We will take an easy pace walk through the colorful Flea market of Athens with many antique and tourist shops.
Hadrian's Library was created by Roman Emperor Hadrian in AD 132 on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens and was the second largest in the world, back then.
The Roman Agora at Athens is located to the north of the Acropolis and to the east of the Ancient Agora.
The octagonal building called the Tower of the Winds was made by the astronomer Andronicus of Kyrristos, in the 1st century BC and served both as wind indicator but also a clock, so it was the “Big Ben” of Athens and also the meteorological station of the city. The clock was solar but in cloudy days there was also a hydraulic mechanism that produced a sound every hour! It’s considered the first meteo station.
Plaka is a scenic neighborhood of Athens with small houses and picturesque narrow streets.
Pnyx Hill was the first parliament of the world. This place offers a great view to the area and is a great spot for sunset views. It’s also free, just like the best things in life.
Philoppapos Hill (or Hill of the Muses) offers the best vistas to Acrpolis and Athens by night.

Bery ingormational, interesting and educational tour given by a very knowledgeable and good speaker. Panos have a good tour with much information about the politics and democracy of ancient Greece, along with philosophies and myths of the ancient Greeks and how these philosophical thinkers affected modern thinking.
Hello David, many thanks for your comments! My best regards!

What a great experience. Thank you to Panos, who was kind and generous with his knowledge and insight. A well thought out tour delivered with wit and wisdom. A definite must do. "....nothing is new under the sun..."
Hello, many thanks, you make me feel...clever, hahaha! My best regards!
Very detailed tour covering Ancient Greece and the philosophers and historical people who created the principles of a democratic state. The walk included going up hill over looking Athens. The views were dramatic, especially the evening we went when there was a rainbow. The professor was a little long winded, but in general we really appreciated his knowledge and learned a lot.
We did the tour two days ago and it was the highlight of our trip! Panos was truly excellent. He injected so much fun and humour into the tour; we loved every second. We learned so much and have bookmarked his website for further reading when we get home. The tour covered the history of Athens and how philosophy, democracy and mythology shaped and continue to influence both ancient Athens and the modern world. Panos was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging throughout. We particularly loved the demonstration of Pythagoras’ cup - so much so that we bought one as a souvenir the next day! We saw so many hidden gems of Athens that we would’ve otherwise missed, such as the prison ruins where Socrates was executed and the ancient cemetery. This tour is a wonderful way to explore the city and its extensive, beautiful, complicated culture. Thank you Panos!
Hello Megan, thanks a lot for your very kind words, watch out with the cup, mind the carpets, hahaha! My best regards!
