The hike is moderate, and the duration depends on where the muskox are that day. Our enthusiastic guides will give you insight into the area's flora and fauna. There is a chance to see birds of prey, reindeer and beautiful lichens during the hike. FAQ Can I join without a car? - Yes, ask us when you book and we may provide transport from Oppdal, we have limited seats in the guide car. How close can we get the Muskox? - The safety distance is 200m. What do I need to bring? - Bring clothes acording to the weather, waterproof shoes with ancle support and food/water for the day.

My friend and I had an amazing day. The walk was beautiful and we were fortunate to see at leat 10 Musk Ox, some of them close up. Even if we had not seen any we would still count the day as excellent as the guides we had were very knowledgeable about the Musk Ox and also about the plants. The pace they walked at was very manageable and the terrain was mostly flat. It was a long day as we had to walk about 14k but it was well worth the effort Definitely value for money.
This was a lovely experience. Granted that the weather was in our favour with blistering sunshine and pleasant temperatures, but the guides made the safari even better. We had Emily, who was incredibly informed about the musk ox life cycle and behaviour. We covered around 7 km before encountering musk ox, and there were plenty within view. There, we had a picnic with the guides providing a hot drink and some cinnamon pastries. Emily was very attentive in making sure we all got back safely. Definitely recommended as a must-do activity in Dovrefjell.
Guides were great and very knowledgeable about musk ox, rein deer and wildlife management in Norway.

Hike in beautiful scenery. The very committed guides provided information about the landscape, climate, botany, and wildlife throughout the entire hike. Their own enthusiasm was palpable.
It is a hike up the mountain. At first over relatively rocky, steep paths. Later it gets flatter once you have reached the top. I am no athlete, no mountain goat, but also not someone who is uncoordinated. I accepted the challenge and succeeded. Our guide was extremely considerate and kept incorporating short breaks into the hike so that everyone could catch up and catch their breath. We were able to observe male oxen play-fighting from very far away and later see oxen up close. There was plenty of time for both observations. Our guide explained many exciting things about the flora and fauna and was really knowledgeable! He also had binoculars with a tripod with him and was constantly in contact with colleagues to find the best spots. Many visitors to the mountain plateau hike up there on their own. Everyone has to decide that for themselves. It is definitely more informative with the guided tour.
