Itinerary
Upon reaching Vesuvius's Gran Cono, you can embark on a unique hike to the crater rim. This "Great Cone" trail offers unparalleled panoramic views of the sprawling Bay of Naples, encompassing Capri, Ischia, and the Sorrento Peninsula. As you walk along the crater's edge, you'll observe the volcanic landscape shaped by past eruptions – ash, lapilli, and small lava flows. You might also spot fumaroles, small vents emitting steam and sulfur, tangible signs of the volcano's dormant yet active nature. The sheer size of the crater, with its elliptical shape, is impressive, offering a direct glimpse into the raw power of nature.

The audio guide worked good. I used it at my pace. The email about parking were VERY helpful! the reminders were helpful
You must download your tickets ahead; the voucher is not sufficient. This wasn’t clear and since we had very limited internet access on our trip, we had a significant charge at the gate to turn on our phone and call you. (Almost €15) Also, we never found an audio guide to download. Since we’d done a Viator tour at the Colosseum, and headphones were handed to us there, we thought the same would happen at Vesuvius and it sure didn’t. So we felt disappointed and a little ripped off.
I was worried we wouldn't get to tour Mt. Vesuvius since all of the tickets online were sold out. It's probably Viator and other travel websites that buy them all up as soon as they're released and resell them for more but anyway this came through. They gave us the tickets and we got in. It is a bit of a tough hike, pretty steep and rocky but the views make the tiring hike well worth it!
