Itinerary
Passing by the famous Bryggen Wharf and UNESCO site as we are heading out of the buzzlng city on the way to the Golden Circle of the Fjords and waterfalls.
The Nordhordland Bridge has completely sealed off the beautiful Osterfjord area to cruise travelers since it was built in 1994. Hence have this area been inaccessible as the modern boats are far too big to venture under the small inlet. The Nordhordland Bridge is a marvel of engineering and is North Europes longest floating bridge without side anchors. The large arch construction is made to withstand the current in the fjord as the tide travels in and out twice a day.
As we travel along the fjord side, we make a fjordside stop at Vikanes to gaze at the mirror-like waters in this highly protected area. Tall mountains surround the place and make wind and weather to be a Bergen City phenomena
The Mostaruam tidal channel is one of the narrowest areas of the fjords and this is where the Osterfjord stopped until the spring of 1743 when a large flood washed away the outlet of what used to be a river from the Mo lake. As a result - the tide now comes in and with it saltwater. The Fjord is as a result the "youngest" fjord in Norway and did not exist 300 years ago.
Mo Village is a picturesque small place with only some 380 inhabitants. The Mo waterfront is a group of modern buildings that have its architecture inspired from long traditions as it resembles both the Bryggen Wharf in Bergen and the historical seahouses found along the fjord banks in many small places. Here we make a longer stop of 20 minutes so people can have a restroom visit and a cup of coffee at the local shops.
The Hesjedalsfossen twin waterfall plunges into a free fall of some 63 meters (206 feet) as it falls into a cavity on the Fjord bank. We stop just meters away from it and during the spring it is wize to bring an umbrella for the best view and keeping dry.
The Kallestad bridge connects the largest inland island in Europe, Osteroy - to the mainland. The bridge offers a spectacular viewpoint with the unique roadless Veafjord scenery in the background. Definitely the tours "hottest" photospot
After Stamneshella we make a small stop at the strongest tidal current in south Norway and where the name, STRAUME actually translates directly to the English word "current". During the lowering tide the fjord looks like a wild river and the force of nature becomes obvious to see with your own eyes. After this stop we start our return to Bergen as we arrive at the larger road E-16 leading back to the cruise port.

This route is designed to give guests more than just beautiful views — it’s about connecting the scenery with the people, history and everyday life of Western Norway. Terrible experience. We arrived at bergen and found out the ship came into a different port about 30 minutes away. Wedid not know this. The tour lasted to long for us to get back to the ship. I would think that viator and the tour company would verify if they could provide their service. When we called the vendor he replied he talk to viator. That didnt work out so well if he did try. Viator was no help either. Totally worthless. Also thw vendor said he was going to be at least 15 minutes late. Bottom line is we are out $700. Because they couldnt provide the service we paid for. They should not have sold a product they couldnt provide. They need to make sure they can provide the excursion. I dont read the language, so they should have been more help. I wouldnt concider this vendor again and why isnt viator of more help. DB
Dear David, This review appears to have been posted on the wrong tour operator’s page. We have no booking under the name David B, and the tour you reviewed does not match our product or pricing. Our Mostraumen Golden Circle Fjordtour from Bergen is not priced at USD 700 for this type of booking, and the situation you describe does not correspond with any reservation or guest communication we have had. For clarity: we pick up guests from both cruise terminals in Bergen, and we always verify cruise ship logistics carefully. Bergen has more than one cruise terminal, and this is exactly why we ask for ship details before departure. We also operate with a Back to Ship Guarantee. If a guest were ever to miss their ship due to an error on our side, we would cover the transportation costs to the next port. We take cruise passenger logistics extremely seriously and have never had an issue where guests did not know where their ship was docking or where they needed to be picked up when booked with us. I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but based on the information in your review, this was not with our company. I would strongly recommend contacting Viator directly and asking them to identify the correct supplier for your booking. Kind regards, Norway Fjord Travel
Our guide was well organized and gave us information on a large variety of topics
Our tour operator was extremely knowledgeable about many aspects of Norway, history, and the local communities. I was impressed with the number of tunnels we traveled through and how they were built. The scenery was spectacular.
Excellent travel experience, really enjoy it. Our very kind tour guide treated us the best local chocalate, very tasty😋😋.
This was a great tour around the Fjords! Tor was very friendly and knowledgeable, we stopped at some beautiful places and we were very lucky as the sun was shining!
Our tour guide, Tor, made all the difference in this amazing excursion! He was extremely knowledgeable and took us to some amazing scenery and shared the history of Norway with us. We even got to stop and drink fresh waterfall water! Truly an unforgettable experience with a great guide!
Thank you for this fantastic review! Tor will be delighted to hear your kind words. He grew up in this part of Norway and knows every turn of the road and every waterfall by heart. It’s great to hear that his knowledge and enthusiasm helped make the day truly memorable — and yes, tasting fresh waterfall water is one of those little moments that makes the journey special. We really appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again in the fjords. – The Golden Circle Team
Great scenery & visit/info from Tor- driver. Willing to make an extra stop. Rainy day off & on but still enjoyable. Thanks!
Tor our guide was a 5 and did a great job. Very knowledgeable and personable. Were given old van that was dirty, had engine trouble, and ceiling vent leaked water on two people off and on for six hours. Never should have been in use. Company was aware because they had several cloths there to wipe water w. It was ridiculous. Those two people should have gotten refunds. Felt bad for the guide. Wouldn’t recommend this touring company.
You are absolutely right – that vehicle should not have been used for a full-day tour. Under normal circumstances it is only used for short transfers. On this day, however, four of the eight guests went to the wrong cruise terminal. Bergen has two terminals, and by the time everyone was finally gathered, the time window had become so tight that we could not switch vehicles and still honor our back-to-ship guarantee. For cruise passengers, returning on time is critical – the ship will close its gangway without waiting – so we prioritized keeping that promise, even though it meant using a vehicle that was not up to our usual standards. I fully agree it was far from ideal, and I regret the inconvenience caused. Tor did his best under the circumstances, and I appreciate you recognizing his effort. – The Golden Circle Team
The driver Tor was very informative and helpful. Spoke English very well and was easy to chat with. Answered all questions fully and stopped for photos if asked. Great trip, had some rain (which is normal in September) and luckily had sunshine each time the bus stopped!
Thank you for this wonderful feedback. Tor will be very pleased to hear your kind words. He grew up in this region and carries a lifetime of knowledge about its roads, landscapes, and small details that don’t show up in guidebooks. We’re glad you felt how naturally this came through in his guiding – both in conversation and in the way he shaped the trip around your group. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we appreciate your recommendation. – The Golden Circle Team
