You will be dropped off by your driver in Piazza Guglielmo II. Here you can visit the beautiful cathedral of Monreale. It has been included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites and is considered one of the most important medieval churches in the world. The mosaics of the cathedral are something simply unique and perfect. An area of over 6,000 square meters and over 130 Byzantine mosaics that adorn the church. It is possible to access different areas of the cathedral such as the terraces. Adjacent to the cathedral is the monastery of San Benedetto. The cloister of the monastery has a square plan in Romanesque style, characterized by more than 90 columns decorated with mosaics and Romanesque capitals. From Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II you can see the Duomo, while calmly admiring the garden with the famous marble fountain called Fontana del Tritone. The Duomo is not open on Sunday morning!!
The gulf of Mondello is one of the most extraordinary places on the island, at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. The atmosphere of Mondello seems almost tropical thanks to its colors. Full of services, restaurants, small shops and a small port. Here you can have lunch and enjoy excellent fresh fish dishes. This area is full of villas, all in Art Nouveau style. The names of the modernist villas of Mondello are all names of women and their imposing beauty makes the village of Palermo famous.

Our driver Luca was wonderful . A very young educated boy with great conversation and gave us a lot of information and recommendations . He gave us enough time to see each town and we certainly felt safe and enjoyed our day !

The first time stepping into the Cathedral of Monreal is breathtaking, and Marcello made it all even more special. There’s no way we would have gone to Monreale and Mondello on our own. Yes, it was a splurge. But so worth it. Marcello is friendly and informative And he is a fantastic driver. The car was perfect, the suggestion for lunch was just what we wanted. We learned a lot and had lots of fun. Highly recommended.

These are both beautiful areas and we enjoyed seeing them however unless you buy your ticket for the cathedral ahead of time you can spend half the time spending in line. The beach village was great if you are going to swim but for shopping there was really nothing there except restaurants and some had a limited menu for lunch. Our tour guide seemed very nice and I think would be very knowledgeable however our guide was changed due to a last minute emergency but we were not advised the guide spoke very little English and we dont speak Italian so it wasn't what we expected.
The Monreale cathedral and the beach in Mondello. We also had a great lunch in Mondello. The restaurant is called il Gabbiano, which sits right on the edge of the beach.
Monreale is a must see and including Mondello, a beach town near Palermo, was an interesting contrast. Mimmo was very pleasant and professional. He was very punctual. Dropped us off to see Monreale and dropped at Mondello and returned at agreed spot and right on time. Monreale had a lot of scaffolding; difficult to follow audioguide and locate discussed points of interest. However, Monreale deserves UNESCO designation. Mondello was fun as able to swim. Takes a little ingenuity.
