The Duomo and the rooftop experience was amazing - you have not been to Milan if you don’t see this view. Only don’t know why they said we were guarantees to skip the line - that wasn’t the case.
Was worried about the details but all went smoothly and we were first in the rooftop for fabulous views and early morning temperatures.
Just what was needed. I was tired and didn’t have it in me to do another lengthy guided tour. This was nice. The elevator saved me knees, and I was able to listen to the audio guides in line and live once on the roof and in the cathedral.
The cathedral was utterly gorgeous - I’ll lead with that. However, we had the rooftop tour, and my gosh what a letdown. The initial portion of our tour - walking the perimeter of the Duomo roof and taking photos of the ornate spire art, etc - was incredible, until we decided to follow the arrows up the stairs to the tip top of the structure. No warnings about no shade or massive line to exit, just a disclaimer stating that there are 90 stairs. We got up there and noticed that there wasn’t much to see (outside of what we had already seen) other than scaffolding, and quickly realized that the massive crowd of people was just a line to get back down on the narrow exit stairs. 90°F weather, sun beating down, no shade, no bathrooms, no workers regulating foot traffic. It was rough. Stood in the sweltering heat and after 45 mins, finally got to the staircase and headed down to the ground level (and of course, dealt with attempts from other patrons to cut the line). If they can fix that, it’ll be an A+ tour. Lit a candle inside the chapel and observed some of the Sunday morning service. It was beautiful.
I really recommend this app; everything went well, and the price was very reasonable compared to others for what we wanted to do. You really need to choose the option to take the elevator to go up to the roof. We received the tickets with all the recommendations, and the meeting point was clearly indicated. A good plan.
Over all it’s clear as day light you get a ticket to the cathedral and an elevator ticket to the top of the Duomo. No hidden surprises. Honestly wished I would have gotten the stairs instead of the elevator. To be honest the only con I have to this is just please clarify where we have to arrive to and what is needed of us. I went for 3 locations and one to another I just kept being sent to different parts Luckily the confusion was over quickly and I got in roamed around and went to the roof to take my pictures
It was well organized. The elevator was fast and convenient. I appreciated greatly that we had a section to sit to listen to the mass, organ and chorale. The view was absolutely wonderful. It was a marvellous experience.
A beautiful cathedral, well worth the visit, very cool when the temperature outside are soaring. Stunning floor and brightly coloured windows, and ornate capitals on the columns. A bit noisy, lots of builders and workmen dropping scaffolding poles and moving machines with flashing lights, so not quite the sense of awe and wonder I was hoping for. Also, there are signs asking for silence, but most people were talking quite loudly including tour guides.
It was “okay”… nothing spectacular about the audio guide by any means. Not sure if there’s an easier option or even something more guided for more information.
Disappointed with all the scaffold and screens. Lined up to get in lined up & to get out. Hot and over populated.
