The Pyramid of Djoser (or Djeser and Zoser), or Step Pyramid is an archaeological remain in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt, northwest of the city of Memphis. The 6-tier, 4-sided structure is the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt. It was built in the 27th century BC during the Third Dynasty for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser by his vizier, Imhotep. The pyramid is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by ceremonial structures and decoration.
The first of the Dahshur pyramids was the Bent Pyramid (2613–2589 BC), built under the rule of King Sneferu, the Bent Pyramid was the first attempt at building a smooth sided pyramid, but proved to be an unsuccessful build due to the miscalculations made on the structural weight that was being placed onto the soft ground (sand, gravel, and clay) which had a tendency to subside. Other calculations that were proven to be erroneous were that the blocks being used were cut in such a manner that when placed onto the pyramid their weight was not distributed appropriately, causing the angle of the pyramid to be off and achieving the name “the Bent Pyramid” Realizing his shortcomings and learning from his mistakes, King Sneferu ordered the building of the second pyramid of Dahshur, the Red Pyramid. Once completed, the pyramid was considered to be a success, as it was a fully constructed, smooth sided, and a free standing pyramid rising to a height of 341 feet (104 meters),
Memphis museum in which there is a huge statue of king Ramses II and gigantic sphinx beautifully made of alabaster. After finishing the visit of the museum

They are must cover spots, which Indian travel agencies donot cover in their fixed tours. You get a good glimpse of how the perfect pyramid was achieved from step to bent to perfect pyramid. Entry inside pyramid over here is free compared to a costly ticket in Giza. A 5 hours trip, so bargain well when booking. Egypt tourism isnt cheap.
My wife,my two daughters and me we spend 2 days at Saqarq ,Memphis,Drshur and the other day at Old Cairo, Citadel... We had wonderfu person and professional, smart guide Mariam Moris. After 2 day's with her we felt like a family... Special tanks to Isaach Nabeh fromTwitter Egypt Travel which did amazing job.
We had a good tour with Gina and Ferris ( spelling?). They were professional, friendly and shared interesting information about the history of Egypt. It was nice to set out from Cairo and see these more remote villages. And it was a special treat to climb inside a beautiful tomb. A great day!
Dina and Mario took us on the tourist road less traveled to see the early pyramids of Egypt at Saqqara and Dahshur, finishing with a visit to the archaeological relics found in Memphis. It was so special to be able to visit the step, bent, and red pyramids away from the bustling crowds and climb deep into the pyramids themselves. It was a special day augmented by Dina's deep knowledge of history and context of these major accomplishments.
These guys were awesome. We had Mario who was super friendly, knowledgeable, looked after us from getting scammed, introduced us to some great local food and authentic places to get souvenirs. 10/10 everything you’d look for in a good tour guide.
You can visit Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis without any hustle, and can enjoy there maximally since the guide Hoda provides you enough knowledge and history, experience you will see in the pyramids. Also the driver kilo is very reliable and try to give you comfort as much as possible.
We had a great day with our guide Mario and driver Paul! Both of them are very professional. It was eye opening to see the 10 meter Ramesses statue!
I would highly recommend visiting Memphis, Sakkara and Dahshur to complete the Pyramids experience. We did Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Camel Ride, Sakkara, Dahshur and Memphis in a day from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with enough space for photography, lunch and fun time. If you are considering going inside pyramids, please plan accordingly and give 60-90 minutes extra. Inside of pyramids did not appeal to us and we skipped it after 5 mins of going inside one of the pyramids. Mario Nagy was our guide and he was just amazing!
We had the most amazing time with our guide. She showed us everything wanted to see. But most of all our driver was extra special. We had had him on 3 tours where we joked & had so much fun. Highly recommend
The pyramids were exquisite and we appreciated the historical background from Dina. our driver Mario was also calm, patient, and skilled.
