Marrakech is a city located in central Morocco, inland, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It is nicknamed the “red city” or the “ocher city” in reference to the red color of a large part of its buildings and houses. The city was founded in 1071 by Youssef ben Tachfine, at the head of the Berber Empire of the Almoravids. In the past, Morocco was known in the East as Marrakech (still relevant in Iran); the name Morocco comes from the deformation of the Portuguese pronunciation of Marrakech: Marrocos. Marrakech has 928,850 inhabitants according to the 2014 census, spread over an area of 230 km2. The population density reaches 350 inhabitants per hectare in the Medina.

An incredible experience! But prepare to cross with a lot of people through narrow alleys, fighting space with motorcycles, goods carts, etc. It is worth walking and watching the shops and tents, with picturesque items, amazing aromas and beautiful local crafts. A friendly people, who like to negotiate and serve well the Brazilians.
We spent two days in the medina. Seeing this living environment is interesting. But the mad motorcyclists furious that we meet there come to cancel the pleasure of being there. A motorcyclist hit my wife's leg and foot, unconcerned. You have to line up to the side with the other passers-by all the time so you don't get hit. And it’s like this all over Morocco. Never again.
Did this tour by day then again at night with a horse and carriage and the difference between the two was amazing. Please be mindful of motor bikes as they come from all directions keep hold of small children and be aware of henna ladies as they are very quick to start painting without asking first
Rather chaotic and hurried experience through the souk. No opportunity to stop and look or purchase. We were then huddled into the back room of a herbalist who proceeded to do the hard sell. We said no to most of it but did buy some aragan oil and paprika. The former had no official stamp or origin or cooperative and seemed overpriced. The second stop was in the dusty basement bazaar selling absolutely everything at grossly inflated prices. Your best bet is to do this tour alone using a map and find authentic shops. We were disappointed as this trip was arranged via the TUI agent in our hotel.
Great experience. Traditional artisans and artists. Mystical ambience. Beautiful, but watch out for pickpockets. Almost everywhere just cash.
Absolute experience. Like from the fairy tale. Dark, but also sparkling. Mystical. A thousand smells. Lots of photo subjects. Pure history.
Must see for every tourist. Lot of staff food ... everything you can find in medina.
Beautiful square and stalls of all kinds then in the evening even more beautiful and full of people, in January we found a nice climate was not cold at all 18 degrees.
Vibrant and beautiful! A must visit in Morocco. The bazaar is so colorful and full of beautiful stores and great foods. Be prepared for crowded streets and motorbikes. People are lovely, but be aware of people coming to you after you leave the hotel, saying they just got off work at the hotel you just left, and saying they are headed to the Medina, but will show you where to go for shopping. I really thought this man was an employee of the hotel and was headed home, but was just showing us the way to the Medina and some reputable stores. Do not fall for it! It happened to us three times when we walked out of the hotel!
It took time to digest but when I see comments on the internet I recognize myself so much! What a rotten city! We visited Marrakech last June, we had lived in wait in the souk by false guides, if I did not give 80 €, it went in a fight 1:3. Scams don’t talk about it, from any point of view.. Shopkeepers, taxis, false guides etc, thefts, assaults, insults. We're seen as cattle. The smells, it stinks, the waste I explain not even it is dirty. Even in their way of negotiating they are aggressive. We have made many trips but this destination to banish. I don't recommend this destination to everyone around me. Avoid giving them money, they will understand that WE tourists, we allow them to feed and live.
