Marble Carving Workshop Create Your Own Cycladic Idol Relief

Description
During this one-of-a-kind experience, participants become marble sculptors by creating their own Cycladic idol relief — inspired by one of the earliest art forms of the Aegean world. In the heart of Athens, they will explore Cycladic civilization, learn about marble carving traditions, and master authentic hand tools through guided practice. This workshop offers a rare combination of history, craftsmanship, and artistic expression. Participants take home their unique marble artwork, gaining hands-on experience in traditional techniques while immersing themselves in Greek culture.

Very friendly and knowledgeable, gave detailed hands on instructions when asked for, and also helped students with the carving with difficult shapes and corners. An absolutely incredible experience and the highlight of my trip! I’m a professional craftsman, and my friend with no craft experience had just as much fun as I did. Absolutely worth a visit!
I had an absolutely fantastic experience here! I’m a woodworker by trade and was thrilled to have the chance to work with stone, and this class absolutely delivered. The class was well structured and paced, the teacher was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, I learned new techniques, and have a permanent piece of art to show for it. Additionally, as I’m hoping to continue stone carving as a hobby in my free time, our teacher kindly sold me a tool, and when I didn’t have enough cash left, gifted me a piece of marble to practice on. Truly, I cannot recommend this experience enough!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for sharing your experience with us! It was a real pleasure having you in our workshop. Knowing that, as a fellow craftsperson, you enjoyed exploring stone carving and found the experience valuable means a great deal to us. We’re especially happy to hear that you’ll continue carving in your free time, and we hope the tools and marble will inspire many more creations. If you ever have any questions about stone carving, techniques, or your future projects, please don’t hesitate to send us an email. We’ll always be happy to help. We wish you all the best with your woodworking and your new journey into marble carving, and we hope to welcome you back someday!
I was a little bit worried, there was no review! But I'm glad I took a chance because this was the best experience ever. Professor Dimitris Pantazidis is really the expert of the art and has the passion for it. You are first given a mini-lesson of how marble carving works, what materials were used and shown examples. Then you sketch your own Cycladic form on a little marble tablet, shown the tools and start chipping. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes (as you will be doing most of this on your feet and under spot lights) and be prepared for marble dust and pieces to fly all over :) Professor Dimitris is always happy to step in and help you if you are struggling. It didn't take me long to understand the logic and soon you could see how things supposed to work. But since it's a relatively quick project (and not a marble statue itself!) you need to be prepared that it will not be perfection :) When you are satisfied, you are able to color your work with clay if you want and it is sealed with varnish and presented to you. Congratulations :) I really liked this workshop, I was the solo booker for this session and it was a private lesson for me! The summer heat may not be the best time to experience this workshop but hey you only live once :)
We truly appreciate your wonderful review. It’s rewarding to hear how much you enjoyed both the creative process and the guidance during the workshop. We hope your marble piece will always remind you of this experience in Athens.
