The Royal Palace stands on the site of the former Alcázar of Madrid, a medieval fortress transformed into a lavish palace by Juan II, Carlos V and Felipe II who in 1561 made it the official residence of the Spanish Monarchy. The Alcázar was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Eve 1734. Felipe V then decided to raise a new Royal Palace on this site, employing the best architect in Europe at the time, Filippo Juvarra. When Juvarra died in 1736, his pupil Giambattista Sacchetti made various changes to his grandiose project. The entire building is made of a series of domes built without a single piece of wood and it has multiple floors to accommodate all the administrative offices, Crown officials and servants. - Patrimonio Nacional, Gobierno de España
The narrow and winding streets of this irregularly laid-out area, mostly dating back to the Middle Ages, usually lead onto a square. Most of them lay outside the Medieval walled village and provided accommodation to a great many merchants who sold their goods at the market. This commercial tradition still echoes in several street and square names, such as Plaza de la Cebada (Barley Square), where the farmers’ market used to be held, Plaza de los Carros (Carriage Square), Plaza de la Paja (Straw Square), or even El Rastro (owing its name to the blood trail of the old slaughterhouse), the city’s best-known flea market. - Official Tourism Website, Madrid
In the seventeenth century, the Golden Age of Spanish Literature, Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Tirso de Molina and Góngora, among other authors, had their homes here – hence the name. Some of the streets in this neighbourhood pay tribute to this and other brilliant chapters of Spanish history, culture and art. - Official Tourism Website, Madrid
Paseo del Arte (Art Walk in English) is also known as the Golden Triangle of Art. Along a 2 kilometre stretch, three of the world’s finest art collections are to be found. This includes the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Collection, and the Reina Sofía Museum. Paseo del Arte runs along the wide, tree-lined boulevard of Paseo del Prado and some of the streets that come out onto it. Together with Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo de la Castellana, Paseo del Prado forms a long line that flows north to south through the city. Once an open green space close to the San Jerónimo el Real monastery – ‘prado’ means ‘meadow’ in Spanish –, the area of the long avenue that we can see today witnessed the construction of the Buen Retiro Palace, commissioned by King Philip IV. - Official Tourism Website, Madrid
The Retiro park is one of the most beautiful sites in central Madrid, a former royal garden built in the 17th century. We bicycle along the French parterre towards the Estanque, lake and further to the Crystal palace an elegant glass and iron construction where they first exposed exotic plants and flowers from the Philippines. An optional break at the lake for a refreshment makes it a memorable experience. Later we exit the Retiro park through the main entrance at Alcalá gate another important symbol of the Spanish capital.
Most of Madrid most fashionable shops are located on calle Serrano in the Salamanca district. One of the best food markets is the mercado de la Paz. Another interesting spot is the food market and tapas place of Platea on calle Goya 5-7 opposite Plaza de Colón.
This neighborhood owes its name to Manuela Malasaña, one of the heroines and victims of the historical events that took place in Madrid on 2 May 1808. Plaza del Dos de Mayo, at the heart of the neighbourhood, commemorates the rebellion against Napoleon’s occupation led by captains Luis Daoíz and Pedro Velarde, officers at the headquarters of the Monteleón Artillery Regiment. In the festive 1980s, Malasaña witnessed the birth of the movida madrileña, an underground movement that revolutionised the arts, culture and Spanish society at large. - Official Tourism Website, Madrid
Chueca became one of the liveliest districts after the Franco dictatorship with many boutiques and bars. San Antonio international food market attracts many visitors. From Chueca square, you will find Augusto Figuorea street with many, shoe shops, cafés and traditional taverns.
An ancient temple, a donation by the Egyptian government and reassembled at the beginning of the 70's in the Parque del Oeste park with excellent views towards the Casa de Campo parklands and the Sierra Guadarrama mountain range in the distance, one of the best sites for watching spectacular sunsets.

David our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable about history of Madrid. Every time we travel to a new country we take an electric bike tour. By far, this tour was the best and felt very safe as most of the tour was not on main streets. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Great job David.
Really great tour that had it all! Gaspar and David thought of everything beforehand, getting there was easy and the bikes were all ready for us! Adults 16+ can choose helmet or no helmet, the routes were bike paths, some street, some walking the bikes through plazas, and David made sure everyone was together and personalized the experience for the group. We learned a lot of really interesting stuff over the three hours, got to feel like we were behind the scenes more, and they really packed in so many beautiful places into the tour! Highly recommend David Alejandro as the tour guide, he was super knowledgeable about everything and very fun. Would recommend to anyone visiting Madrid on the first days of their trip so you can feel like you know more of the history and top spots of the places you’re seeing throughout the city.
A very informative, interesting tour across Madrid.
Herzlichen Dank für die 5-Sterne-Bewertung. Es freut uns sehr, dass Ihnen die Tour mit Álvaro gut gefallen hat. Wir wünschen Ihnen weiterhin alles Gute.
Exceptional tour and can’t stop talking about it. We went with our grown up son and his girlfriend and we all were unanimous when we said this was or best day in Madrid. Sergio was a brilliant and informative bike/tour guide who knew all the history and as a local, born and bred in Madrid knew his city inside out. He made history come alive and we covered a lot of territory so had a good grasp of the city’s culture and heart beat. A must do tour we would highly recommend.
Thank you very much for your excellent review of our tour guide, Sergio. We are happy to hear that our experience was the highlight of your visit to Madrid. We also offer multi-day guided tours in other parts of Spain. We wish you all the best!
Amazing experience. A ‘must do’ with our guide Sergio who was experienced and incredibly knowledgeable about Madrid. A local, born and raised with deep knowledge of information regarding history, art and architecture across all the places we rode. Highly recommend you do this with Bravo Bike.
Thank you for this excellent review of our Madrid city tour with tour guide Sergio. We hope to meet you again on one of our cycling experiences in Madrid or elsewhere in Spain. We wish you all the best from the whole Bravo Bike Team.
Absolutely awesome way to learn a little of the history of Madrid stopping at multiple sites and 7 different districts. Sergio was an excellent guide.
Dear Peter, Thank you very much for the 5-star review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed exploring the many highlights of Madrid on our e-bikes with our tour guide Sergio. We hope to see you again in the future. Take care!
Our guide was awesome on this bike tour. He shared so much incredible history about Madrid, Europe and beyond while we got to see so much of the city. Highly recommend this bike tour!
Had a wonderful experience! It was a slow day and only one other person was with me on what felt like a private tour! Guide was very kind and knowledgeable, we covered a lot of ground, history, and took our time to explore!
We thoroughly enjoyed our bike tour, it was a great was to familiarize ourselves with Madrid. Our guide, Remi, was extremely knowledgeable and a great guide. He provided tons of information about each site and kept the pace leisurely. The tour kept my daughters engaged and allowed us to cover far more than we would be able to see on foot or in a bus. We particularly enjoyed the part of the tour through Retiro Park. I would highly recommend the tour. The evoke is a great option to enjoy the tour even when your legs may be a little tired.
Thank you very much, Carolyn, for your detailed review. We are glad to hear that you had a great time with our guide Remy. Indeed, using an E-bike makes the 3-H tour much more comfortable, as Madrid is not flat and has minor uphills. We wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your holiday in Spain. Take care!
We have done bike tours in cities around the world - it’s our favorite way to see a new city especially at the beginning of our trip. This tour quickly rose to the top of our list of favorites. Our tour guide Gonzalo was amazing - knowledgeable, thoughtful about checking to understand what we wanted to learn about and then sharing what he knew (which was a lot!), and fun to talk to. We felt fully safe on the tour - following was easy. Biking was not strenuous - a few small hills but very manageable. We got lucky in that we were the only ones in our group but I’m sure it would have been just as good with a larger group. We recommend this tour without hesitation!
Dear Pam, we are very happy you had such a good time with our tour guide, Gonzalo. It's very important to feel safe in a big city like Madrid. There are minor uphills during the 3-H cycle tour. Nevertheless, our E-bikes make it easy and fun to pedal through the old part of the city and in the beautiful Retiro Park, a jewel right in the centre of Madrid. Thank you again for your visit, and hope to meet you again on one of our many bike experiences. All the best. Take care!
