Description

The musical is based on the 1997 film of the same name and is loosely based on the story of Zues’ son Hercules in Greek mythology. The show, which includes hit R&B and gospel songs from the film like Go The Distance and From Zero to Hero, tells the story of young demigod, Hercules. While his parents are Zeus and Hera, he grows up on Earth after being made mortal by the villainous Hades. However, he is still left with super-human strength and doesn’t feel he belongs. When he discovers the truth about his identity, he seeks to become a hero and return to Mount Olympus.

Don't miss it, one of the best shows I have seen in my life!

If you love Hercules and musicals, you have to see it, no doubt... And even if you don't, it's super entertaining, the singers are exceptional, and even the snacks and ice cream are good. I have been to many shows in my life around the world, and I consider this a must-see, beautiful, and moving.

Hercules is ok. Not the best but not terrible either.

Being a newer show in the West End, and also because we are Disney fans, we had to watch this show. We enjoyed it but we enjoyed the other Disney musicals more. We felt Meg was strong, but Hercules was lacking. The original stage songs were also not the best. Love the stage work, and the theater is amazing!

Give it a miss

We’ve had this on our to do list ever since the announcement and a recent offer appeared for £24 tickets so we snapped them up. Front row of the grand circle so can’t complain about the view. The set and costumes were amazing but I’m glad I hadn’t watched the Disney film beforehand as it appears by other reviews, the story does not match. That would have disappointed me. My main complaint was the clarity of the lyrics. The muses looked amazing but as they appear to tell the story throughout, I had no idea what they were singing! I have high pitch hearing loss and thought my hearing aids may need a tune up but having spoken to my grown up daughters in the interval, they couldn’t understand any of it either! Now I’ve seen reviews saying the same. If children are coming to expect to see the film version but can’t hear what is being sung, I don’t know if they’d know what is going on?! Hercules was beautifully clear however, so I don’t think it was a sound problem in itself.

One for the kids and those who like theatre light

There are lots of good things about this show but...... It's loud and most of the time on the loud numbers impossible to hear the lyrics. I should add I would stick pins in my eyes that watch a modern disney movie so I unable to judge it against anything. The staging, set, choreography & costume (with a couple of exceptions) are all good. There is some 1960s variety time filling dance routines I could have done without. The cast have it their all. We had seats with a great view and it wasn't expensive, had I paid a lot of money I would have been sorely disapppinted. There is some awful humour but I personally liked the Times Roman joke. We went on a day which was full of school children, they clearly loved it and you can see despite it being all dressing and no substance there are some things that could open doors to more serious stuff, like a trip to the British Museum and the real story etc. All theatre is good for kids and this might just inspire some to follow this path....

Ancient Greek Fun!

Wasn't sure what to expect as not one of the Disney films i've watched more than once but it was a great evening with a really fun musical that doesn't take itself too seriously. the performances were perfect and there was a great amount of humour in the show as well as some impressive set pieces and musical performances. The theatre itself is steeped in history and fascinating just to look around.

Cheesy

Went to see this a few months back but forgot to review. Very cheesy and the humour was just not funny. Strong vocals though

Slight deviations

My wife booed this show as it’s my favourite Disney film. The theatre was excellent, very classy and stylish with plenty of leg room and the view from the Royal Circle was excellent. I enjoyed the show and realised there would be minor alterations however Pain & Panic replaced by Bob & Charles (whoever they are), no Pegasus and as funny as Hades was this was not a Christmas panto. Phil as a waiter wearing a tracksuit all show was underwhelming however all the songs were there and the Muses were absolutely amazing and made the show. Can’t help but feel much like Aladdin and The Lion King, they would have been better served sticking to the movie we all love

A success

What a good surprise!! I did not see how this Disney could be made into a musical and yet... incredible!! The costumes and sets are crazy and true to the cartoon! The passage with the hydra has been replaced by another monster but everything is faithful!! For young and old, a happiness to share 🤗

Really enjoyed this show. I don't understand the negative reviews. It was fun, colourful and light-hearted. Cast are all talented performers. The Muses were amazing and their costumes were fab😍

Worst Muscial. Poor Casting. Poor Diaglogue. Aimed at Ipad Babies and Attention Deficit Adults.

☆☆☆ Hercules Musical — Stunning Venue, Painful Show I attended the Hercules musical recently and, unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing theatre experiences I’ve had in years. The venue itself was beautiful comfortable seats, lovely atmosphere — but the production on stage simply didn’t match the setting. The biggest issue was the casting and character direction, particularly for Hercules. The Muses were phenomenal and easily the highlight of the night, but the moment Hercules appeared, the energy dropped. His acting was stiff, pompous, and completely lacking in emotional depth. The rest of the cast Meg, Phil, even his mother were clearly trying to build chemistry, but it was impossible when the lead felt so disconnected. It made scenes that should’ve been heartfelt or charming feel awkward instead. The storytelling and dialogue were equally weak. The plot felt childish and watered down, with motivations reduced to “I hate him because!” and “I want to be a god because!” The jokes were painfully on-the-nose and rarely landed; you’d need to be several drinks in to find most of them funny. Cutting the entire Titan sequence left the story feeling rushed and surface-level, and the final showdown with Hades was genuinely embarrassing, mechanical props flying around the stage like they were trying to entertain toddlers. The production also couldn’t decide whether it wanted to follow Greek mythology or the Disney film, resulting in a confused portrayal of Zeus that was neither lovable nor intentionally awful. His scenes were uncomfortable to watch, and I almost cheered when Hades started winning. Costumes were a mixed bag. - Meg’s first outfit was shockingly unflattering. - Hercules’ mesh top was distracting for all the wrong reasons. - Phil spent the entire show in a tracksuit. - The Muses looked incredible (until the cheerleader-style “Zero to Hero,” which was criminally out of place). - Hades’ costume was the only thing evil about him — and not in a good way. On a positive note, the actress playing Medusa was absolutely stunning and deserved more stage time. Despite all this, the singers and dancers were outstanding — easily a 9/10. They were clearly talented professionals doing their best with weak direction, clunky staging, and forgettable musical adjustments. The added lines in the classic songs added nothing and were instantly forgettable. One final note: while the venue was lovely, the booking site really should warn customers about obstructed views. We spent a good portion of the show looking at the conductor’s head. Acting overall? 3/10. The Muses were the only ones consistently delivering. Chemistry between the cast? 1/10 Plot? 1/10. Dialogue? 1/10. Musical adaptation? 2/10. Singing? A solid 9/10 — they hired phenomenal vocalists and dancers who deserved a better show. Overall, I’d give this experience a 3/10. Brilliant performers trapped in a confused, poorly executed production. I wanted to love it, but this musical needs serious reworking before it can live up to the name Hercules.
