Description

Now using a radio transmitter and receiver so you won’t miss any of this amazing story. Numbers are strictly limited so you will not be following 35 or 40 people. We start the adventure at Whitechapel Station because that's where Jack the Ripper started. With the help of the FBI Special Agent John Douglas's 1988 profile of Jack the Ripper and Scotland Yard's 2008 geographical profile you will explore the Jack the Ripper mystery from his first unsolved murder in Buck's Row to his last in Dorset Street. You will discover the victims' story. Who they were. Why they were targeted. How they were killed so swiftly and silently. It's a truly fascinating story that goes beyond the cliche of the toff in his top hat and opera cape seeking his next victim among the raddled fourpenny whores of Whitechapel. Blanketed by fog, London was 'The Big Smoke' home to a silent and invisible serial killer we call Jack the Ripper. Join me.

London - Jack the Ripper Small Group Tour

Itinerary

10 min

We start in Whitechapel Road opposite the London Hospital where Emma Elizabeth Smith the first victim of the Whitechapel Murders died after she was brutally attacked on April 3rd 1888.

20 min

We will visit Buck's Row, Whitechapel for a crime scene investigation of when, where and how Jack the Ripper committed his first murder. And learn about Polly Nichols and just how she became Jack the Ripper's first victim. And right here discover our first suspect.

20 min

Brick Lane is of course the curry capital of Great Britain but this is also the eastern boundary of where all five victims lived at the the time of the murders. Thrawl Street which ran from Brick Lane to Commercial Street where Polly Nichols stayed at Wilmott's Lodging House. And Flower and Dean Street where the third and fourth victims lived and also where Scotland Yard believe Jack the Ripper was living. And a stone's throw from Brick Lane is where Annie Chapman, the second victim, was found murdered. More CSI and a second suspect who fits both a Scotland Yard geographical profile and also a profile created by the FBI.

Admission not included15 min

The magnificent example of Nicholas Hawksmoor's work. Christchurch Spitalfields which stands right opposite the famous, or should that be infamous, Ten Bells Pub. A pub that gets its name from the church that stands across the road from it. A pub that the victims drank in.

15 min

Where the American writer, Jack London, witnessed some of the appalling examples of abject poverty common in Victorian London. Old Spitalfields Market a centre of the community for centuries.

20 min

This is where the worst street in London stood. And where the second victim, Annie Chapman was living up to the night she was murdered. It's also where Mary Kelly lived and was murdered. She was a very different kind of victim and she brings with her a third convincing suspect.

A great experience for anyone with even a passing interest in Ripper lore

Richard's walk is well thought out, informative, and fun. He thinks through the little logistical things (like ear pieces for everyone so that he can talk while you walk instead of just at the stops or giving time to enjoy areas that evoke the same vibe as murder sites that are no longer accessible) while delivering a lot of information in an easily understandable talk. We enjoyed it so much we went home and picked up his book for even more Richard!

Excellent Jack the Ripper tour

Richard does a great job. He's friendly and very knowledgeable. Good instructions sent on meeting place and time. The tour went very smoothly with the only exception being the blue tooth devices occasionally had interference but he made sure to repeat anything missed. Group size of 15 was good. Great details, lots of information and we ended up with plenty to think about and discuss. I'm glad we went with him.

Excellent!

Excellent, highly knowledgeable guide who clearly loves what he is doing and fascinated by the subject matter. We had a group of 6 ranging in age from 16 - 78 and the tour was enjoyed by all. Be aware this tour lasts just over 2 hours and involves a small amount of walking with often prolonged standing in one location as he discusses the events that took place at that particular spot. Come prepared for weather and the understanding of conditions with the tour.

Excellent Tour!

My husband and I went on Richard's Jack the Ripper Tour and found it very interesting. Richard was a wonderful guide and gave a new insight into the history, victims and possible suspects. It was fascinating to see some of the actual locations where these horrific murders took place (although some buildings are no longer there).

There are great Jack the Ripper tours. This isn't one of them.

We'd been on a Jack the Ripper tour more than 20 years ago and enjoyed it very much and had forgotten most of the details so decided we'd do it again. We shouldn't have chosen this tour. The presentation was extremely confusing, who the suspects were, the people who'd written books about it over the years, etc. We walked through a very busy area. The guide stood for several minutes and spoke at the start of the tour and even with the headsets it was very hard to hear him. Then he finished in a similar, very busy area that made for a very poor situation as far as being able to hear him. Boring, confusing, we "endured" it for 2 hrs. Definitely didn't enjoy it. As we left we chatted with another couple on the tour, they felt the same. The next day we were on a different tour and a family told us about their wonderful "Jack" tour. Same night, different guide, different company. So, we're writing this because your vacation time and money are valuable and we want people to have the information to help them make a better choice than we did.

Jack the Ripper Experience

The Tour was so well organised and the History of each location given was perfect. The length of the Tour was just right given. The admission fee was perfect, you can’t argue with that price. If you haven’t already been on this, I would certainly recommend it.

Less about Jack and more about what Richard thinks happened and why you should buy his book.

While I believe his heart is in the right place, this tour was a disappointment. Instead of a story telling experience, he was promoting his theory on who Jack the Ripper may have been and why the police theories are wrong. Lots of "thirty two steps to the left, I timed it....." as anecdotal evidence on his theory. Nothing on the history of the women, what the era was like, just "look what I think happened and please buy my book". The most disappointing tour of our week long trip. We were on the tour with several retired policemen and as we headed toward the underground, they all agreed is what not at all what they expected.

Great Jack the Ripper Small Group Tour

This was a great, in-depth tour exploring not only who Jack the Ripper was, but who the victims were. We loved Richard's expert information and enjoyed the tour. Definitely recommend!

Brilliant tour!

A wonderful experience. Full of detail and different perspectives of each of the victims stories. Richard was very knowledgeable and engaging throughout the journey. Highly recommended taking the tour and jumping back in time to retrace the steps of Jack the Ripper.
