The National Pantheon – or church of Santa Engrácia – is a grand Baroque building housing the tombs of the country’s most distinguished figures. Come and discover the final resting place of Portugal’s most illustrious figures. Built in the 16th century as the church of Santa Engrácia by Princess Dona Maria, daughter of King Manuel I, the church never fulfilled its purpose. It is thanks to her that the saying “like the construction of Santa Engrácia” came into being to denote something which is never completed. In fact, it was finished in the mid-20th century, 350 years later. You’ll thus discover the legend of the secret love of Simão Pires and Violante, a novice from the neighbouring convent of Santa Clara. It was the curse uttered by Simão that gave rise to the expression when unjustly burned alive for suspicion of stealing some relics when in fact he was just going to meet his lover. Historically the Elevador de Santa Justa was an invaluable part of Lisbon’s public transport network, but today it is primarily a tourist attraction, and one of the highlights of the Baixa district. As to confirm the tourist focus of the Santa Justa, a viewing platform has been created at the top of the lift, and from here are some of the finest views of central Lisbon. Admission 1.5€

Worst service ever

The worst experience ever. I booked it and I was in Lisbon only this afternoon and I kindly asked the service provider to be transparent . He lied for two hours , first he said the guide tour came and it was not true, than the police stopped him and again another lie. Third the guide tour called and cancelled and the service provider did not reply . If it was not possible he should have been honest . This is also because I am a woman and he discriminated my gender. I have been waiting two hours in front the hotel and none came to pick me up . Things happened but the service provider handled the service in the worst way to steal the money .

Operator response
