Lisbon Awakens: A Culinary Crossroads, Reborn.

Description
We’ll start by traveling back in time for a taste of the “Age of Exploration,” a golden period when Lisbon became the center of a global empire, awash in power and holding the keys to the spice trade. We’ll search for a taste of those distant roots in the simple offerings of a classic pastry shop beside the 18th-century Estrela Basilica. From there we’ll make our way up to the out-of-the-way Campo de Ourique neighborhood, where our story leaps to contemporary times in this well-preserved “village” in the city. We’ll have a belly-warming shot a shot of ginjinha, a smooth, sour-cherry liqueur that is a traditional local eye-opener, on our way to one of Lisbon’s finest traditional markets. There we will explore the old artisans – fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, bakers – working alongside more modern, boutique offerings recently added to the market. By hearing their stories, we’ll locate that sweet spot where past and present, near and far, meet and become deliciously entwined.

We had a fantastic time on our walking food tour of Lisbon with Laura. She was incredibly informative, sharing interesting insights about Portugal’s history, culture, and culinary traditions throughout the tour. Her passion for both the country and its food was evident and made the experience even more enjoyable. The food stops were excellent, and Laura did a wonderful job explaining the significance of each dish and drink we sampled. We also really enjoyed the small group setting. It was intimate enough to get to know our fellow travelers and share experiences, but never felt crowded or overwhelming. This tour was one of the highlights of our time in Lisbon. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the city through its food while learning from a knowledgeable and enthusiastic local guide.

What a wonderful tour … loved every minute of it and it lived up to all expectations and more! Laura was the most fantastic guide who shared so many interesting stories and took us to places we would not have found without her - each of which was delicious and fascinating. Highly recommend this tour (and Laura) and can’t wait to hopefully do another tour soon - culinary backstreet tours are worth every penny.

We had an amazing bespoke private food tour with Laura. What an amazing guide, full of knowledge, fun and so engaging. It’s such a great way to eat in Lisbon. Great curation of food and wine, you can’t go wrong. Also great value for money. Five hours of fun. It’s a must! Laura makes it too

We are in our 80’s and when I asked about tour was told flat and stroller friendly. For the most part it was flat with the exception of one difficult hill, st least for us. Our guide was wonderful and patient as were the other two couples who joined us..first stop traditional Portuguese food and enjoyed several of the dishes. Was surprised that our second stop was Indian Food which I would not have expected ! Not a fan of Indian food so did not eat at that stop. Last stop was for dessert throughly enjoyed along with our stop to the local Mercado. Would love to know where we could buy those wonderful nuts that we found in the market. Should have bought more.

Laura was amazing! She is the perfect guide to show you around Lisbon and share her love and knowledge of the culture and food. We enjoyed her friendly and relaxed presence and she was super accommodating to dietary needs and preferences. We felt the tour gave us the chance to experience such a range of food with Portuguese influences and the locations were definitely off the beaten path and not necessarily places we would have found without her guidance. It felt more like going out for the day with a friend than being on a tour. The only complaint we could think of was that it was so much food! We should have paced ourselves better, but that is no fault of Laura’s! Highly, highly recommend you take any tour that Laura is giving!
