Itinerary
Find your way to the Huangpi Nan Road metro station in Shanghai, and meet your guide and group at 8:30 p.m. Depart on foot for the Xintiandi area, and make your first stop at a local restaurant serving up the best hand-pulled and knife-cut noodles made by ethnic minority (Uyghurs) in the city. Find a table among the locals, then taste the famous dish and participate in an in-depth discussion on the flavor and consistency of the broth, the quality of the meat filling, and the texture of the dumplings' skin. Learn about the history of this dish as a Shanghainese staple.
Continue to the famous Zhaozhou Road, one of the most popular night market where world-famous chef Anthony Bourdain stumbled upon, approximately 15 minutes' walking distance. See the border where French-style apartments suddenly give way to traditional Chinese stone door houses (Shikumen). Visit three restaurants in the neighborhood to try local dishes and see how the native city residents eat and live.
Some tasty street barbecues items: • lamb kebabs • beef skewers • grilled eggplant • stir-fried chives • shiitake mushrooms • boiled crayfish with five spice • freshly fried pot stickers • marinated edamame beans • braised pork belly Between stops, cleanse your palate with local craft beer and listen to your guide's commentary on Shanghai's culinary culture and traditions.

We loved it! Delicious food and Patrick was an amazing and very knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!
Timberly was the best tour guide!!! So friendly & so much fun, she made our tour so special. This was our favourite thing we did on our trip :))
Great experience with the tour guide Ms Lotus, very knowledgeable, polite and competent.
Jamie was an excellent tour guide! As a native Shanghainese, she knew the best spots and had helpful information to share about the cultural, history, and of course food. All of the dishes were outstanding and we felt there was a great variety of things we would not have tried on our own. Would highly recommend booking this tour for your next visit to Shanghai.
I would totally recommend this tour to anyone visiting Shanghai. I ended up being the only one on the tour, so as a solo traveller I really appreciated that they were still able to accommodate me. Lotus took me to many different places and as a dessert lover I really appreciated getting to try so many different kinds. It was like walking around with a friend :) I also want to mention that I have a tree nut allergy and had zero issues. I never felt worried about anything I was eating. Thank you for the fun night Lotus!
I did a food tour with my guide "Lotus" on May 5th. She was amazing, not only took me to great spots, she also provided a lot information about the history of Shanghai, while going from place to place. 100% recommend.
Great experience – very well organized, authentic food, and a perfect introduction to Shanghai. Lotus is friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us excellent local tips. Highly recommended!
We had the best time with Jaime! Everything we tried was so good, fun, and fresh. Definitely had some items and went places we never would have found on our own. The highlight was the pan-fried buns at the end. As much food and drinks that you could want were ordered. Jaime was so great and personable; she really made the tour fun for everyone! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Shanghai.
Absolutely loved this tour! Jamie was amazing at only the young age of 24 and was able to answer any question thrown at her. She is passionate about her heritage and culture and I was glad that I could learn something on the tour. The food was varied and each place had adequate time to taste and learn about the cuisine. I felt quite full after the tour so go with an empty belly! The walking was not strenuous at all so any age could take part. Jamie ensured we could all get home safely after the tour. Highly recommend! She even organised a cute matcha cake as it was my 40th birthday on the day of the tour.
The pace and variety of stops were very good, and my food preferences of not eating meat and spice tolerance were taken into account!
