Itinerary

Admission not included420 min

Lake Naivasha full day tour departs Nairobi after breakfast and the journey takes you Northwest of the city of Nairobi to the Great Rift Valley Floor. Along the way you make a special stop at a viewpoint to enjoy views of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. There is just one “Crescent Island Game Park”. Located on Lake Naivasha, Kenya in the Great Rift Valley. It is simply one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya, often called Naivasha’s best kept secret. It is private, secure and patrolled by guides who can accompany anyone who wishes a for guided walk. The shores host abundant bird life especially huge numbers of pelicans, cormorants and fish-eagles with their haunting cry. There are more animals per acre than any other Kenyan Park, hence many film companies have been to the Island to film the herds of Wildebeests, Waterbuck, Zebra and Gazelle. We are not fenced to allow the wildlife on the mainland to come in as they lose their habitat to development and the ever increasing population. Hippo graze all over us at night then sleep under the acacia or rest in the water by day. The giraffe who were born on the island return to give birth; sometimes you see three generations at a time.

A worthy to try option!

Visiting Lake Naivasha was an option offered by our tour guide while we were on the way to Masai Mara. We did it at Lake Naivasha Resort and had a group discount. First of all, we took a 6-seats boat to Crescent Island for a walking safari. We could get really close to the animals, like kangaroos, zebras, …. Since there was no predator in the island (according to the guides), it was a peaceful haven for them. Then we saw fish eagle hunting on our way back. It is an worthy-to-go option!

Operator response

Thank you for taking time to review the tour we are happy to know that you enjoyed the safari but in the tour there are no kangaroos ,looking forward to your hosting you again

My time on Lake Naivasha was amazing!

Simon was my tour guide - he was amazing! Simon explained the Great Rift Valley to me, while I took in the absolutely amazing views! He took great pictures of me and I really appreciated it. While driving to Lake Naivasha, he shared so much information with me about Kenya, her people, their history and the land! He's very knowledgeable. I was able to see baboons along the road and he answered every question I asked. Upon arriving at Lake Naivasha, he handed me over to Captain Martin! He took me on Lake Naivasha and he was amazing! He shared so much knowledge about the many different bird species! He was able to get an eagle to grab a fish off the water! I saw some hippos in the water! I spotted monkeys, zebras, giraffes, and several other animals while taking a relaxing boat ride! I had the oppportunity to visit Crescent Island but I chose not to because I really enjoyed being on the water with Martin! This tour is worth taking! If you want to experience Lake Naivasha, you have to book this tour with Simon!

Awesome!!!

I had a great time on this day trip. Lake Naivasha is a very nice peaceful lake away from the city, and Crescent Island is FULL of beautiful wild animals that you can just walk right up to in some cases. I had a blast exploring the island all by myself with the animals after getting dropped off via boat. It was the closest I’ve been to zebras and giraffes (100% wild, just hanging out in nature!). Truly a one-of-a-kind experience, maybe even more memorable than the safari I did in Nairobi National Park. I am so glad I went! Be aware though, that the Viator tour price is ONLY for the ride to Lake Naivasha from Nairobi and back. Once you get there you have to pay for the boat (I paid 4,500 Kenya shillings for the boat), and then pay again on Crescent Island to explore and see everything you came there to see (I paid another 3,500). I personally thought it was worth it because I had such a great day. Happy travels!

Fantastic

I had a fantastic day! The whole experience is great. Wonderful landscaping and you get to be so close to the animals. Be aware that you do have to pay entry fees that are not included, but it is clear when you are booking it. The star of the day is Victor, the driver. He is a warm and funny person. I would repeat any time. Thank you!

Operator response

Worst Trip Ever

The best thing about this trip is the driver name Simon. He is a real genuine human being. The owner of this company is a real rip off for one they did not inform me that on top of the 140 usd there was a 30 usd for the island plus another 30 usd to go view the animals. So this trip is actually 210 usd Be careful when purchasing this trip. There are far more better trips that are cheaper.

This was a great day out especially...

This was a great day out especially as a solo traveler and my driver Nelson Nyamai was excellent . The trip took me down the Rift Valley escarpment to the valley and out to Lake Naishava where we braved the rain and had a coffee and then I had a hour long boat ride around the lake where I saw a huge amount of wild life including Hippos and Sea Kites fishing. The we headed up to the Thermal area of the Elsa National park and spent the afternoon there doing an hour long guided walk through the river bed and then up to the Thermal Power plant and generally enjoying the countryside and the wild life which was just on the side of the road. On the way home we stopped at the Naishava Mall for lunch and then home via the main highway into Nairobi. All in all we were away about 12 hours and he stopped any time I wanted to take photos . The next day as a private arrangement he took me to the Buma Cultural Centre and I had a wonderful afternoon seeing part of Nairobi which I would have not known about. I would highly recommend this day trip - If you are going to Kenya , spend an extra few days in Nairobi and use this service to sights see around the area. Nelson gave me such a positive time in Nairobi I would love visit again at some stage and would certainly recommend him as a guide. I also used the Viator service for my airport transfers which I think is essential in a city like Nairobi and also highly recommend one of the walking tours of the city that are offered.
