World class collection, don’t miss

Superb art museum. Don’t miss the schatzkammer section which features the decorative art pieces that the Hapsburgs collected over the centuries. A breathtaking collection. The imperial treasury (a separate museum in the Hofburg) was a much smaller collection of pieces but features the historic crowns worn by the hapsburgs, ceremonial robes, jewelry, etc. I did not see the coin collection but I’ve heard that is also very good. I would have liked to have lunch at the KHM but there was a long line.

Worth a trip - one of the best museums in Europe.

I purchased an annual pass - If you visit more than three museums under the management of the KHM, then an annual pass is the most economical option even for shorter stays in Vienna. However, I live in Vienna, so I am often in the center and a frequent visitor to the museums. What you see on the cover is the café on the upper floor of the KHM, definitely worth a visit (hoping to get a free table). I divide my visits into four separate trips to explore everything at a leisurely pace. As mentioned, an annual pass is indeed the most economical option for this purpose.

Just a ticket, no guide, but still AWESOME

You have to be bold when you travel. You have to walk up to the counter and say “I think this is a ticket, but if it is only a voucher, may I have a ticket?” It is not that hard. This is a skip the (non-existent) line voucher, not a guided tour. Museum is stunning, amazing, and huge. This is as big as The Met in NYC and bigger than the National Gallery in London. You could spend days here. Masters such as Albrecht Duhrer and Caravaggio are well represented. The true gold here is the Hapsburg dynasty’s vast sculpture collection. Like the Medici family in Italy, this royal family were art patrons of the highest order. Many masterpieces here were commissioned unique works. Some were given and received as gifts. Some were centerpieces at garden party tables. Some are ivory. Some are gold, bronze, silver, wood and wax. All are amazing. A few are unfathomable. And that is just the sculptures, There are ten more huge collections, at least. There are so many treasures here, they have had to add locations and still have to rotate the items. Any special or temporary featured collection or exhibition is a must see because it could be stored for fifty years before it is brought back out. Worth every penny nickel of admission. Audio guide is six euros and worth it. Ignore the “scam” karens. If they would read the thing! Not misleading. It is what it is. An easy way to pre pay at a discount.

Beautiful, free audio guide

We visited at 2.30 pm no line, cost €20 each as senior citizens, free audio guide. You need at least a week here! Beautiful, Egyptian, Roman, 14th centuries onwards. The most awesome gold, bronze, ivory, Chinese art & of course the art work, the items are out of this world, we had just spent the day at Schonbrunn the taxi dropped us at Museum Platz & although tire so glad we visited. Perhaps visit after 14.00? The buildings around as everywhere are so beautiful, about 25 minute walk to AM Parkring Hotel If you decide to pre book ONLY use the official website don’t be fooled & pay too much

Amazing exhibits

There are, like most big cities, so many museums to visit in Vienna. We decided to visit the Imperial Treasury Museum which is based in the Hofburg Palace. We bought our tickets on the door and just for this museum. The Hapsburg jewellery on display consists of many crowns and other amazing pieces, the treasures include what is reputed to be the largest cut Emerald in the world, the horn of the mythical Unicorn and an agate bowl associated with the Holy Grail, as well as beautiful robes. Towards the end of the exhibitions there are also lots of religious artifacts which we decided to pass, as we had already spent 2 hours on the treasures. Overall, the museum is well worth a visit.

Please visit Vienna!!!

Wonderful very nice museum and setting. Has a variety of cultural attractions. The imperial treasury was also very interesting. Yet it could be placed together say with the imperial carriage museum.

We enjoyed our time at...

We enjoyed our time at the museum. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour much better. We would do it again if we had the same Guide.
