Kayak to the penguins in Simons Town

Description
This trip gives you a different view of Cape Town from the water. There's a good chance of viewing marine life such as penguins, dolphins and whales (in season). In summer, the water is warm enough to swim.

It was a blustery day so our expectations were low. But Jen and Andrew provided an unforgettable experience. We saw tons of penguins, had a great paddle and enjoyed the amazing visibility in the water. Great bonding experience for our family.
Hey Brent and family - so glad we made it happen. Enjoy the rest of your stay!
This was one of the best experiences of my visit to Cape Town. While many tourists go to the penguin centre on the shore, we paddled with Gravity Adventures around Simon’s Town and visited many beautiful, lesser-known, and less crowded small beaches along the way. This gave us a unique opportunity to see the penguins and other wildlife from the sea. We highly recommend this to anyone visiting this area. The Gravity Adventures team (especially Marie-Louise, Andrew, and their team) were excellent at organising the logistics of bringing the boats and were very experienced and knowledgeable about the surrounding area and wildlife. This was a very well-guided tour.
Thanks so much!
What an awesome experience! So many things in one place - great exercise, panoramic vistas, a new view of the well known penguin site in Cape Town, and a chance to swim on some less well known and very beautiful little beaches in that area. Keep up the good work! It’s a good way to spend a Sunday morning.
Thanks so much - hope you'll join us again in future
Incredible day with family! Youngest was 11 and oldest 78! Guide Jen was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing interesting info on the area and wildlife. Awesome to see birds and penguins from a kayak. Kayaks in excellent condition. Felt safe and relaxed.
What lovely feedback - so glad the whole family enjoyed it.
Great experience, highly recommend. Make sure to pack a sun hat and sunscreen though! We saw penguin, seals and got an opportunity to swim in the beautiful bay. Great, informative tour guide.
Thanks again for joining us - yep, sun protection is a must
Our guide was super chilled and really great at the role. The kayaks, being 'fisherman' flat bottom kayaks are not made for speed and quite hard to control with two people vs the one person kayaks, BUT we had no trouble doing 10km worth of paddling in 2 hours. The 07:00 tie slot was perfect, we got to see the penguins going out for their early morning fishing.
Hi Jacques. Thanks so much - so glad you enjoyed the trip. The kayaks we use are chosen for stability and safety so that as many people can enjoy this amazing experince as possible. We also have faster kayaks for more experienced paddlers such as yourself and we do longer routes with these - let us know if you are keen on that next time. Hope to see you again soon. Marie-Louise.
Some of us struggled keeping direction (-:. It made for lots of laughter. Jennifer and Jason were super! Great to get close to nature and seeing the wonderful creation of God.
Thanks Marius. It was great having you join us. Thanks, Marie Louise Kellett
We were contacted by the tour operator to move our trip due to weather conditions. They were helpful in fitting this around us but did not explain the change of location meant no penguins. I couldn’t fault the local guides we went kayaking with. They were great; good fun, informative and took lovely photos for us. We saw seals and dolphins which was cool but on arrival were told we were unlikely to see penguins in that area. And ultimately that was my reason for booking this trip.
Hi Natasha. I'm so sorry that you didn't see penguins. Penguins are very location specific as they have only one colony in the Cape Town area - Boulders/Seaforth. We didn't realise that seeing the penguins was your sole purpose in booking the trip but we will be sure to ask clients this going forward and make it clear that the other routes don't have penguins. We trust that you enjoyed the privilege of seeing both seals and dolphins on your trip. Thanks, Marie Louise Kellett
We had very little experience and managed thanks to lots of help from the guide. Beautiful , fun day outdoors. Very good sightings.
Thanks Shelly - so glad you had a good trip with Cam.
Josh was a great guide. He pointed out sights and gave the history or explanation of. He also pointed out the wildlife, ocean and land. He made sure we saw an abundance of penguins.
