Tour was booked 2 months ago with specific timeframes. 24 hours prior the tour operator finally reached out and said there was not enough time to do the tour. Viator then refused to offer a full refund despite the times being very specifically outlined when booking originally.
Thank you for your feedback. As mentioned, Viator’s refund policy does not allow refunds for cancellations made after 24 hours from booking, which is why they declined the request. Regarding the tour itself – we were fully prepared to operate your private tour, even with your later flight arrival at 14:40. However, when you requested an 18:30 drop-off, we advised that the full program would not be feasible due to heavy rush-hour traffic. The cancellation was made at your discretion after we provided that honest assessment. We regret that the timing didn’t work out and hope we can welcome you on a future visit with a schedule that allows you to enjoy the full experience.

Excellent tour! Thabiso is an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful guide, and he made the entire experience both enjoyable and informative. Throughout the tour, he shared the fascinating history of Johannesburg and Soweto in a way that was engaging and easy for us to follow. His passion for the city and its history really came through in every explanation. Furthermore there wasn't a single moment that we found boring. The tour was well-paced with lots of stops from start to finish. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody visiting Johannesburg.
Thank you for the wonderful review, we really appreciate it. Thank you
Johannesburg and Soweto are already unforgettable on their own — but experiencing them through the tour guide named Thabiso elevates everything. ⭐ A Truly Exceptional African Tour Guide: Thabiso If you want more than a tour — if you want an experience — ask for Thabiso. From the moment he reached out on WhatsApp, early and professional, he set the tone for a day that was thoughtful, safe, and deeply meaningful. He doesn’t just show you Johannesburg and Soweto; he reveals the parts most visitors never see. Thabiso guides with heart. He brings you into the real Jozi — vibrant, creative, and full of life — then into Soweto, where history still breathes through every street. He explains apartheid with clarity and compassion, including the powerful truth that the uprising was sparked by children just 11 to 14 years old. His storytelling makes you feel the courage, the pain, and the triumph of a community that fought for freedom. He also helps you understand the complex identities shaped by apartheid — the differences between coloured and black communities — in a way that is respectful, honest, and eye‑opening. Because of Thabiso, Johannesburg and Soweto became the most unique and historically powerful places we’ve visited in a while. He doesn’t rush, he doesn’t rehearse — he connects. And that connection stays with you long after the tour ends. As Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” Thabiso shows you the place where impossible became possible.
Hi Theron thank you for the wonderful review, we really appreciate it. We glad you enjoyed your tour.
The tour organizer is very cooperative- they were kind enough to pick us up from one hotel and droo us off at another as we requested with alk our luggage. Since we were with a child, that was very convinient for us. Also, we happened to be the only travellers on this afternoon tour and it was practically a private tour, very personalized. Our guide Kgaogelo was very informed and punctual. She told us a lot about Johannesburg and Soweto and took care that we stay safe everywhere. We learned many things about the city - its history, its people, the new developments, problems, etc. We enjoyed the tour very much.
Thank you for sharing your amazing review, we really appreciate it. We glad you enjoyed your tour.
Had a good tour of Johannesburg and Soweto. The driver/guide was very helpful and informative and caring. Did not feel safe when I got off to do the walking tour of the slums in Soweto as the surroundings were scary, and got back in the van

I had an incredible tour of Johannesburg and Soweto with Thabiso as our guide. From start to finish, he was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing the history, culture, and people of South Africa. Thabiso brought every stop to life with engaging stories and thoughtful insights, explaining both the historical significance and the modern-day context in a way that was informative and easy to understand. He welcomed questions, shared local perspectives, and made everyone feel comfortable throughout the tour. His friendly personality, excellent communication, and attention to detail made the experience both enjoyable and memorable. I came away with a much deeper appreciation for Johannesburg, Soweto, and South Africa's remarkable journey. I highly recommend Thabiso to anyone looking for an authentic, insightful, and well-organized tour. He is an outstanding guide, and this was easily one of the highlights of my trip.

I had Katlego as a guide. He was knowledgeable, great company and informative. The trip gave a great insight into the city’s culture and history.
Hi Patricia thank you for sharing your amazing, we really appreciate it.
I had an amazing time on the Johannesburg & Soweto Tour! I ended up being the only person booked that day, so I got a private tour, which made the experience even more special. My guides, Tabesoh and KG, were fantastic. They were incredibly knowledgeable, but what really stood out was how warm, funny, and personable they were. It honestly felt like I was exploring the city with friends rather than being on a typical tour. We visited everything on the itinerary, but the most impactful stop for me was the site of the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising. Learning about Hector Pieterson and the young people who lost their lives was heartbreaking. At the same time, hearing what they were bravely standing up and protesting for was inspiring. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Tabesoh even shared that his parents were part of the uprising. True heroes. Along the way, I learned a few greetings in Zulu, and Tabesoh and KG also had thoughtful conversations with me about South Africa’s economy and political landscape. Even though apartheid officially ended decades ago, they explained how its legacy is still deeply felt by many people today. Those conversations gave me a much deeper understanding of the country beyond what I could have learned from a guidebook. I felt completely safe throughout the tour, including while visiting one of the informal settlement communities. The experience felt authentic, respectful, and genuinely connected to the people and history of Johannesburg and Soweto. If I had one suggestion, it would be to include a little more walking, I would have loved to get a few more steps in! I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a meaningful, educational, and unforgettable experience. Sala kahle! 🐄 Thank you, Tabesoh & KG!
