Cradle of humankind & Maropeng/sterkfontein caves tour

An excellent tour, especially for anyone interested in archaeology and paleontology but fun and enjoyable for anyone.

Our guide/driver AGGREY MAHLALELA, picked us up at our hotel on time. He was pleasant and knowledgeable and drove us safely first to the caves and then to the Cradle of Humankind. He got us our tickets, waited for us at each place and gave us a guided tour of the areas along the drives. He was lovely. The tour of the caves was very interesting but it was very big so we did a lot of waiting around for people. That guide was very personable and knowledgeable. The Cradle of Humankind museum was amazing! Just a great experience-I’d recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful and highly informative tour of the Cradle of Humankind. You can appreciate the site, the findings and the contribution of these findings to our knowledge of the origin of the human gene. The pick-up was on time. The driver, Pastor, was very knowledgeable about a variety of geographical, historical and factual matters concerning South Africa and Africa in general. I am not a one-off traveller; I visit South Africa regularly and have some knowledge of the country. I was surprised by his competence and his ability to illustrate facts in a clear and comprehensible manner. The appropriate time was allowed for the visit to the Sterkfontein caves, conducted in a small group with a competent guide. The same applied to Marupeng, where the group was larger but suited to the visitor centre's higher volumes.

Wonderful tour. Pastor was my guide. It was just the two of us and we had a fascinating conversation together. He was very very knowledgeable. The cave was very cool and the two exhibitions they have prior to the cave are excellent. The visitor center we drove to afterward was also very interesting. Highly recommend it and highly highly highly recommend this company. And Pastor!

Driver, Pasta (I think thats how you spell his name) was very knowledgeable and informative, he made the 1 hour drive feel not even 20 mins.

A fantastic trip to the Sterkfontein Caves followed by a trip to Maropeng. Our driver/guide was Pastor, who was punctual and charming. He gave us lots of background to the history and to the experience on route. He was wonderful throughout - 10 out of 10. At the Sterkfontein Caves we donned hairnets and hard hats before entering the caves led by a fantastic and highly knowledgeable guide. There were about 16 people on our 10am English speaking tour. The tour itself took about 1hr20 and was fantastic. You’ll need to squat or slide for the exit due to the low height. After the caves we sent to Maropeng. What can I say - it was like a Disney version of an informative museum, complete with a fun water ride at the start. We were again led by a highly knowledgeable guide from the venue. It was great fun and put what we had learned from the caves into perspective. It was a knowledgeable and uplifting experience. Afterwards Pastor drove us back to our hotel. 10 out of 10 for Pastor and to the two guides we had at the venues. Simply fantastic and strongly recommended.

Excellent experience! Very different…but please know, people with back issues should not do the caves. There is a bit of crawling towards the end and tight places.

Pastor was a very knowledgeable and interesting guide. We had a great time visiting the Sterkfontein caves (a highlight) and the Maropeng tour. Thanks for a great day! Also loved that we were a small group and had the tour to ourselves

Both sites tell the same story but in a different format. We found the cave experience to be more worthwhile, and our guide had a very good sense of humour, the guide at the museum was more about delivery the facts and the tour had a very strange boat ride reminiscent of a Disney theme park, which to us, served no purpose. Our driver was excellent and gave us some insight into life and customs in South Africa.
