Great conversation, spectacular food!

Jim was a fantastic guide to the incredible food scene in Jackson Heights. He does a lot of community volunteering and seems to knows everyone. The fuchka is spectacular and it was a real pleasure to hang out with him over chai afterwards and hear about the local school and soccer scene.

Book with Viatour for Wasted Time Added Expenses and lack of Support

Viator was a major letdown. My tour guide canceled just hours before the scheduled time—while I was already in transit—leaving me scrambling and wasting both time and money on travel. Yes, I received a refund for the tour itself, but that’s the bare minimum. What’s worse is Viator’s response. They showed zero concern for the extra costs I incurred getting to and from the location, not to mention the lost time. Initially, all I got was a generic, copy-paste apology. After pushing back, they offered a weak 5% discount on a future booking—which frankly feels more like an insult than a solution. For a company tied to TripAdvisor, I expected a higher standard of customer care. Instead, it was indifferent and transactional. Bottom line: poor customer service and no accountability. Book at your own risk.

Great tour, less organized/more flexible

Jackson Heights is a diverse food paradise! Jim was a great tour guide and helped us to navigate new foods and order some very tasty bites. He explained a much of the history and culture in the neighborhood along the way. The tour itself was a bit disorganized; it is difficult to tell from the posting what the start time would be (which ultimately was wrong but well-communicated in advance). Also not clear what food or drink was included (will mostly buy your own). Jim is great about being flexible to offer people a customized experience, so ultimately it is a worthwhile tour!

Thank you for your honest feedback. Your insight is valuable to improving my work in the neighbourhood. Have a blessed day.

Authentic. Personal. Unforgettable.

Jim’s tour of Jackson Heights is unlike anything else in New York City. Instead of the usual tourist sights, he takes you deep into the South Asian heart of the neighborhood.. introducing you to hidden spots, bustling markets, and food spots you’d never find on your own. What makes it so special is Jim himself. He knows the history, the culture, and the people here, and he weaves stories together in a way that makes you feel part of the community, not just a visitor. Along the way, we tasted incredible dishes, met local shopkeepers, and saw a side of New York I’ll never forget. If you want a tour that’s authentic, personal, and unforgettable, book with Jim. He doesn’t just show you a neighborhood.. he helps you experience it.

Great tour!

We had a fantastic experience with Chai Bhai Walking Tours! The tour offered a unique look into the rich history of Jackson Heights, including some surprising gems — like learning the birthplace of Scrabble! Who knew this neighborhood held so many stories? Our guide Jim was prompt, personable, and packed with fascinating historical tidbits that brought each neighborhood to life. We especially appreciated how he tailored the experience as we toured with our 1-year-old. Jim even shared fun facts for babies! He also gave us the chance to try a variety of street foods along the way, and every bite was a hit. We sampled Fuska, Sel Roti, and Momos — each one bursting with flavor and cultural richness. The tour ended on the perfect note: a warm, delicious cup of chai. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Queens or even locals looking to rediscover the area through a new lens. It was engaging, tasty, and full of surprises!

Queens, A Diverse Borough of New York

We appreciated the quick communication connection we had with James, the tour guide. He was responsive and accommodating to our needs, including cancelling the tour on a day with rain predicted. He also gave us subway directions and greeted us at the train station. We met him at 10 am, before the street vendors were open, so we had a wonderful walking tour of Queens. He was very knowledgeable about the history and diversity of the Queens community. Highly recommended.
