View only unless on 4 hour tour. Discover the magnificent Guildhall, the historic headquarters of the City of London Corporation, where the Square Mile has been governed for over 600 years. This grand medieval complex has witnessed royal receptions, state banquets, high-profile trials, and centuries of civic decision-making that helped shape London into a global financial power. From its impressive Great Hall to its Roman remains beneath the building, Guildhall reveals the deep roots of the City’s independence and influence. A visit to this remarkable site is exclusively included on the 4-hour tour, offering a deeper insight into the traditions, power, and pageantry of London’s ancient governing body.

View only - At the heart of the City of London, the world’s historic financial district, stands the magnificent Royal Exchange. Founded in the 16th century, this grand neoclassical building became the centre of global trade, where merchants and financiers shaped the expansion of the British Empire. Surrounded by the Bank of England, Mansion House, and towering modern skyscrapers, this area tells the story of how London grew from a Roman trading post into one of the world’s most powerful financial capitals. Here, fortunes were made, empires funded, and global markets influenced. Today, the contrast between historic architecture and cutting-edge finance perfectly captures London’s unique blend of tradition and modern power.

5 min

View only - Step inside the magnificent Leadenhall Market, one of the most beautiful Victorian markets in London. With its ornate wrought ironwork, painted roof, and cobbled walkways, this historic marketplace feels like stepping back in time. Originally a Roman trading site nearly 2,000 years ago, Leadenhall later became a thriving centre for meat, poultry, and game in medieval London. During the height of the British Empire, merchants and traders passed through here as the City of London grew into the financial heart of the world. Today, it blends history with modern life — home to boutique shops, wine bars, and traditional pubs — and is instantly recognisable as a filming location for the wizarding world in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A stop here offers stunning photo opportunities, rich storytelling, and a perfect example of how Roman London, Victorian ambition, and modern finance exist side by side.

10 min

Overlooking the Tower of London lies Trinity Square Gardens, a peaceful green space with one of the most moving memorials in the capital. Here you’ll find the Tower Hill Memorial, commemorating the thousands of merchant seafarers and fishermen who lost their lives during the two World Wars and have no known grave. Their names are carved into vast stone walls — a powerful reminder of Britain’s reliance on global trade and the vital role of the Merchant Navy. Surrounded by historic buildings and just steps from the Tower of London, this quiet garden contrasts sharply with the nearby financial district. It’s a place of reflection where stories of empire, maritime power, sacrifice, and resilience come together. A stop here adds emotional depth to your London experience, connecting the city’s global influence with the human cost behind its history.

Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has served as a royal palace, fortress, prison, execution site, armoury, and treasury. Within its ancient stone walls unfolded some of the most gripping stories in English history — from the imprisonment of Anne Boleyn to the mystery of the Princes in the Tower. Today, it remains home to the dazzling Crown Jewels and the iconic Yeoman Warders, better known as the Beefeaters, who guard centuries of royal tradition. A stop here brings to life tales of power, betrayal, execution, and survival — a cornerstone of any unforgettable London experience.

Beneath its Victorian ironwork and glass canopy, you’ll find everything from freshly baked bread and farmhouse cheeses to international cuisine from around the globe. Perfect Heathrow Layover Tour in the famous Black Cab!

Amazing - this was a wonderful experience for us! We had a seven hour layover at Heathrow, and wanted to see some London sites. This is the best way to do it! Chris was our guide, and he was very knowledgeable about getting around the city and had so much history to share. The best part is it was flexible. We got to see everything on our list, and Chris drove us to and from the airport so no additional coordination of transportation was needed. Look no further and book this tour!

Operator response

Thank you so much for your fantastic review. I'm delighted that you chose Iconic London Taxi Tours to make the most of your Heathrow layover and that we were able to fit so much into the time available. Layover tours are a great way to experience London, even when time is limited, and I'm pleased we managed to cover everything on your wish list. Thank you for your kind comments about my knowledge of London and its history. One of the advantages of a private black cab tour is the flexibility to tailor the experience to each guest's interests while ensuring a smooth and efficient route around the city. I'm also glad that the airport pick-up and drop-off made the experience easy and stress-free, allowing you to focus on enjoying London's famous sights rather than worrying about transport arrangements. Thank you again for your recommendation. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I hope you have the opportunity to return to London one day for a longer visit. Kind regards, Chris Heerey Iconic London Taxi Tours 🚕🇬🇧

Black Cab to the Rescue

My adult daughters and I spent our last full day touring the iconic London sights with Chris, our guide, in the comfort of a black cab. We had spent 8 days in rural villages walking and hiking, so the ‘rest’ was welcome. Chris was very flexible with our pick up point due to a tube strike that affected our travel to/from the city center. His extensive knowledge of London, the sights, etc. was extremely valuable. We will book Chris again when my husband and I return.

The best way to kick off your visit to London!

It was our first trip to London and we only had a day and a half. We booked a four hour tour with Andy Wilkins. It was excellent. He picked us up from our hotel, drove us to all the amazing sites in his beautiful, clean black taxi. He gave us a history lesson, had a great sense of humor, took a ton of pictures of us. And had us wanting for more. He then returned us to our hotel. We definitely recommend Andy and the iconic London Taxi tour!

Exceptional Tour with a Truly Thoughtful Guide

The Iconic London Taxi Tour was truly exceptional! I booked a 3-hour private tour for my mom, sister, and me, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. My mother has mobility challenges, so we brought a mobility scooter along with us; something we were initially concerned about, but the classic black cab was incredibly spacious and accommodated everything comfortably. We were able to see all of London’s most iconic sights while learning fascinating history and local insights that helped shape the rest of our trip. What made the experience truly special, though, was our guide, Chris Heerey. He was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind, going above and beyond to ensure my mom was comfortable and that we all had an unforgettable experience. We’re so grateful for such a thoughtful and well-curated tour. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a personalized and accessible way to explore London!

London with Andy

Andy Wilkins was, without question, one of the highlights of our time in London. From the moment he picked us up, everything felt seamless … thoughtfully paced, deeply informed and so enjoyable. His knowledge of the city goes far beyond the surface. He brings London to life. Every street, every landmark, every turn carried context, history and insight that made us see the city differently. If you have the opportunity to spend a day with him, take it. It will shape your entire experience.
