Discover Cape Town’s urban soul as you walk from Wale Street to Long Street, where bold murals, graffiti tags, and large-scale artworks bring the city’s walls to life. This open-air gallery features both local and international artists whose work reflects Cape Town’s vibrant culture, political history, and creative spirit. Each piece tells a story—some loud, some quiet—all rooted in the ever-evolving identity of the city.

Pause at these quiet benches once bore signs that read “Whites Only” and “Non-Whites Only.” Today, unmarked but unforgettable, they echo a painful past—and invite us to sit with its truth.

10 min

One of South Africa’s oldest gardens, this historic space was built in the 1600s and filled with plants and gifts from around the world. Here, we pause to reflect, reconnect, and recharge with herbal refreshment and photo opps.

5 min

It’s not just an arch—it’s a prayer in wood and light. Built from 14 curved beams, this piece honors Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the spirit he carried: fierce love, bold truth, deep joy. We pause here to look up, breathe in, and think about what kind of legacy we’re each shaping. Just like the arch, we’re held up by many voices, bound together in hope.

5 min

Built to hold the silenced, now it speaks. This powerful space carries the stories of those once enslaved—echoes of pain, resilience, and the fight to be seen.

10 min

Where Mandela spoke and history shifted. This grand landmark holds echoes of protest, power, and a people rising into freedom.

5 min

Cape Town’s oldest building—and it shows. Once a colonial fortress, now a curious time capsule. We pause here to take in its shape, its stories, and its place in the city’s ever-changing rhythm.

5 min

From colonial marches to freedom rallies, this square has seen it all. Today, it’s where South Africa’s cultures converge—street food sizzling, languages swirling, pigeons and people sharing space and spice. A living archive of joy, struggle, and everyday rhythm.

10 min

We roll through Greenmarket at closing time—when the crowds thin, the vibe shifts, and vendors get real. It’s less hustle, more human. We chat with local makers, catch the last trades of the day, and soak in a raw, unscripted slice of city life.

You need a local’s POV!

Chaney is a true local gem! He a young Xhosa man with a ton of knowledge about the city and the country itself. He gives you rundown of the social and economic background of the city. The local marketplaces, the Mandela statue and the significance of the place, the gardens, and threw in some local Indian snacks. Green square marketplace at closing was nice too….. not so hectic. If you wanna get a real feel for the city, this would be a great option.
