Experience Hallstatt as a living village, not a crowded postcard. While most tours squeeze into the village at the midday peak, we plan the day in reverse: you arrive in the afternoon, just as the big buses begin to leave, and stay until about 5:30 pm — when the streets grow calmer and the light softens over the lake. The day builds gently: first Gmunden, an aristocratic lakeside town on the Traunsee (in summer, bring a swimsuit — there is time for a dip), then a cable car ride and a panoramic Treetop Walk above the forest canopy. All tickets are included. You are cared for by a dedicated duo — Vlad driving, Jenny guiding and photographing — so you stay fully present. We are honest about the road: about 3 scenic hours each way, with commentary and stops. The reward: Hallstatt at its quietest hours — and you are back in Vienna at a reasonable evening hour, not after midnight.

Your exclusive journey begins with a pick-up at your hotel or private residence. Leave the valley behind as we board the cable car up to the Grünberg Mountain (Tickets included). Enjoy a comfortable ride with spectacular aerial views of Lake Traunsee and the majestic Traunstein mountain. Your guide accompanies you, pointing out the key peaks and ensuring you don't miss the best photo angles as you ascend into the heart of nature.
Experience the Alps from a unique perspective. Walk among the treetops on this architectural masterpiece—a wooden path winding through the forest canopy. Your guide will lead you to the 39-meter observation tower, offering a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Dachstein glacier and the shimmering lakes below. It is a moment of pure serenity and connection with nature, far above the hustle and bustle. After walking we will have an opportunity to stop for a lunch (not included) with a scenic view.
The drive from Gmunden to Hallstatt is an experience in itself. We travel along the scenic Traun River, passing through the imperial town of Bad Ischl (the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph). During this hour, your guide will share fascinating stories about the "White Gold" (salt) that made this region fabulously wealthy, preparing you for the history you are about to witness.
We arrive in Hallstatt at the perfect time. As the mass tourism buses depart, the village reveals its true magic. Enjoy a private walking tour with your guide through the historic market square and narrow cobblestone streets. You will have time to visit the famous church, take iconic photos without the crowds, and watch the sunset reflection on the dark lake. This is Hallstatt at its most intimate and atmospheric.
After a day filled with impressions, sit back and relax in the comfort of your private vehicle. This was a superb day tour with a brilliant guide, Jane, and an excellent driver, Vladimir. Everything was so well timed and organised. We all so had plenty of exercise walking around Gmunden, the treetops facility and then Hallstatt. Even though the journey by car to and from Vienna was long, the time was not wasted nor did it ever feel laborious as stops were built in at appropriate moments.
