Dom at IKOO Tours knows more about Kyoto's culture and architecture than the average Japanese person. Just listening to his stories is incredibly fascinating and educational. Plus, his wonderful personality guarantees an unforgettable and priceless tour experience, even on a rainy day. Whether it's your first trip to Japan or you're a returning visitor, I highly recommend IKOO Tours for anyone looking to create special memories in Kyoto.
Such a great tour and Dom is a really great guide. Would Recommend!
One of the best decisions of our trip to Japan was the private tour with Dominic in Kyoto. We are traveling as a family with two children and were looking for a tour that is interesting for both adults and children. Dominic executed this perfectly. From the very first minute, we felt very well taken care of. We were particularly impressed by his extensive knowledge of Japan. Whether it was history, religion, temples, Geisha culture, everyday life, or current social issues – he had an exciting answer to every question. Nothing felt memorized or like a typical tour guide. You can feel that he loves Japan and has been deeply engaged with the country for years. Another great advantage was his perfect planning. He took us along lesser-known paths, away from the largest tourist crowds, without us having to miss out on the most important sights. This allowed us to experience places like Fushimi Inari in a completely different way. He also engaged wonderfully with our children. He managed to make the tour exciting for the whole family. The route, the breaks, and the content were perfectly coordinated. We never felt rushed, yet we saw and learned an incredible amount. We particularly enjoyed the insights that one rarely gets as an ordinary tourist. Thanks to Dominic, we were able to discover places, traditions, and backgrounds that would have remained hidden without him. If you visit Kyoto and want to experience more than the usual tourist paths, we wholeheartedly recommend Dominic. The tour was professional, personal, exciting, and one of the absolute highlights of our trip. Thank you very much for this great day!
Dom was great and it was so fun learning about the history behind Kyoto and going to a private temple to make our own charms!
So amazing and very knowledgeable about the area and history!
Very easygoing, gave lots of helpful and fun information that felt unique and immersive. Also answered questions really well, and was very personable!
We visited Kyoto with our family and friends (in total 4 adults and 5 teenagers). Dom was our guide and we had an amazing day with him. We booked him for the day and he was very flexible to adapt the program in order to include the main sites which we wanted to visit. He is a very knowledgeable and interesting person who is very well integrated in Japanese life and culture. We visited the main sites/areas avoiding the crowds (which is key if you want an enjoyable experience), and everybody had a very good time. I highly recommend him!
The tour of Gion with Dominic really excited us. He has an incredibly good knowledge of Kyoto and local life and was able to explain everything in an understandable and exciting way. You can tell immediately that he really knows his way around. He also always answered our questions in detail and explained many things that you would never otherwise know. Was definitely a highlight for us in Kyoto – we can only recommend.
We had an amazing private evening tour with Dominic, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto. The tour was very informative without ever feeling overwhelming, and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy-going. The whole experience felt like exploring Gion with a knowledgeable friend and we got great insights into local culture, hidden spots, and areas you wouldn’t easily discover on your own. If you’re looking for a private Kyoto tour we can highly recommend this experience.
I really enjoyed this walking tour. Dominic is a wonderful tourguide and has so much knowledge! He showed me around Gion and explained things about the Japanese culture, religion and history. I learned a lot and would definitely recommend this tour to everyone visiting Kyoto :)
