The high quality of resin from Vietnamese lacquer trees, notably those of the north, was a crucial factor in the rapid development of this art form. Decorated lacquer statues, panels, boxes and trays may still be seen at many temples and pagodas. In centuries the use of lacquerware was extended to larger items such as wooden chairs and tables, decorated with engraved, painted or inlaid mother-of-pearl designs. By the 18th century important centres for lacquerware production in the north and in the south. As part of their strategy to open up Vietnamese handicrafts to new foreign markets, the French introduced formal training programmes in lacquerware at the School of Indigenous Arts near Saigon from 1901 and in Hanoi from 1930. Since that time lacquzerware has continued to develop into one of the mainstays of the Vietnamese handicraft industry, both at home and abroad. Today's most popular items include vases, jewel cases, desk sets, trays and vertical blinds.

Had a nice ride to the side, very kind guide that could answer all our questions. It was exciting to crawl into the tunnels and shoot at the shooting range. We also tried the maniok root and drink a Yasmine tea.
Experience was pretty good and the tour was well guided by Mr. Luc. He was very cheerful and courteous to spend time and explain the history of Vietnam soldiers.
We had luc as our tour guide and he did an amazing job, made an accommodations for our group and was good as speaking English.
Luc was perfect very knowledgeable very funny. 20yo review. Definitely worth if in ho chi min. It is a two hour drive though
Wow what an amazing experience. Our tour guy luc was extremely knowledgeable and kind. We had a private tour and we learned a lot in our experience. We also shot a Ak47 it was so cool. I highly recommend to book the after tour.
Rambo the guide was very informative!. Kept us entertained with stories throughout the day. Received a phone call 1 hour before tour to say there was no room for us on the bus! Extremely stressful until we demanded they get us on the trip, we had booked well in advance, so was very frustrating, it was our last day in Saigon so no alternative, except for a private tour at an extra cost!! When I refused this option, magically room became available on the mini bus!. Turns out, there were lots of spaces on the bus!.
This was a fantastic experience. Emotional and interesting. My 14 year old son also loved it. Well organised tour, lovely guide and driver was also fantastic. I would definitely recommend
Very interesting to learn more of history. Luc was very informative and knowledgable on the Vietnam war! It was great to hear his insights…
Luc is an amazing guide with a very broad range of knowledge! He’s gave us a great tour of the place and the history behind. Very down to earth and like to talk about everything. Positive: Knowlage, friendly, thoughtful! Even bought us some water for the car trip. Negative: 1h delayed tour start (Did text us with the 2x 30 min delay) + lots of phone calls during the tour as interrupted the tour a bit.
