Fun but a long day.

Well organized. Friendly staff. Be aware that it’s an hour and a half bus ride each way. Do your homework ahead of time to have a strategy for which places you want to visit and how you’re going to do the timing

Operator response

Thanks so much for your feedback — we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear you found everything well organized and our staff friendly. We also appreciate your helpful note about the travel time; the journey can be longer than expected, and we always encourage guests to plan ahead to make the most of their visit. Your tip about doing a bit of homework in advance and planning your timing is spot on, and it will definitely help future visitors get the best experience possible. We hope to welcome you again soon!

Phenomenal incompetence

I've probably been on over a hundred tours across different countries and this was the first time ever I was refused to be picked up while being on time at the designated stop. There is a GREAT chance YOU WILL MISS your pickup too. Do not underestimate the risk and choose some other tour company! The problem is they send you the bus under a different brand thinking you are somehow supposed to magically figure out it's your bus. They don't call you, they don't message you, they simply leave without you. Moreover, their utterly rude and disgusting support agents will act like it's your fault cause you weren't there on time (we were there on time standing right next to their bus, we simply had no idea it was our bus cause it was branded under a different tour company). DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD they say! We were able to make it to the tour bus by taking an Uber to the other stop but the mood was ruined for the whole day due to rudeness and incompetence we had to face.

Operator response

We’re sorry to hear that you weren’t happy with the service. For future reference, each bus stop is clearly marked with an “Xplorer Tours” sign, and the confirmation email sent at 9:00 a.m. the day before your tour also reminds you to look out for the Xplorer Tours bus. See below the information that is sent out to each traveller: Most importantly, look out for a red & blue "XPLORER" tour coach – luckily it’s not hard to miss!

Disappointing because of poor organisation.

The old saying ‘couldn’t organise a p*** up in a brewery’ suits the wine tram perfectly. We arrived on time and got on a rickety old bus with missing windows and were told they would be making a stop at a new winery, we could either stay for an hour or 5 minutes. Except the winery didn’t open until after 10am and we were there about 9.15am. Everyone got off the bus to get a bit of relief from the terrible seats and were waiting alongside the bus for them to tell us 5 minutes were up and if we wanted to get back on to do so. After about 2 minutes the bus drove off, we thought it was just to turn around and would be back to pick us up but no it drove off and left us there!!!!!! Everyone thought they would be back very soon but no bus so I called the office and after some discussion they called me back to say another bus was coming. We thought ok one mistake and carried on to enjoy the wineries. In the afternoon we got off the tram at the second last winery and were told on the tram we could stay one hour but when we got off the bus that took us from the tram to the winery we were told we had to be back in 40 minutes so quick drink and we were back on the bus to find out that it was for the tram going in the opposite direction to where we got off so we stayed on for a bit of a ride and eventually made it to our last winery. The ride back to Franschhoek in the bus from the tram was cold and draughty, very unpleasant. The bus had no windows just open holes, they need to put in some sort of cover for the openings for colder days. We never received our welcome drink and the day was ruined because of the two mix ups we had. We were not happy at all and the worst was no one apologised for the mix ups on their part. They do this every day, surely they know what to do.

Operator response

Choose your own wine adventure!

This was the easiest way to arrange a nice and comfy ride to the wine tram/bus from Cape Town and back, and to still get to go to the wineries at the top of my list! I was able to get some kind of food at every stop (cheese plate, oysters, bread service, full charcuterie spread), and tastings were much better priced than anticipated. I did 4 stops, which could have been 5, but I loved my 3rd stop so much I stayed 2 hours! If you want to be able to plan your stops, skip the barreling tours, and just enjoy good wines, this is the way to go! I’d definitely do some research first on your top 2-4 wineries on the lines, pick a line, and then decide if you want to do the tram or the bus first (I did tram and was able to do 2 relatively quick). I loved this because I got to dictate which winery I wanted to spend more or less time at. Beautiful experience.

Operator response

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the convenience of the transfer service and the flexibility it gave you to explore your preferred wineries at your own pace. It’s great that you had such a memorable experience and were able to fully enjoy the food and wine offerings. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again in the future.

Excellent day out

Good selection of pickup points around cape town. The coach journey was pleasant and on the way back you arrive at v and a and there is a bus that heads back to the Atlantic seaboard - turns out it was an open top bus which was cool. This excursion is not a guidrd tour but a comfy, safe and affordable way to get to the tram. I travelled by myself and met friends at the tram station. When you get there you are on your own to pick your vineyards etc. We left sea point 8.20 got there just after 10 and the coach home left 16.30 arriving back (sea point) around 18.30 Had a great time - did the blue line and managed to get in the cheese pairing at Franschoek Cellar, wine tasting at Rickety Bridge along with a tasty lunch at their restaurant, and a quick drink at Le Provence (note you ride a tractor here! A nice surprise). We went in autumn and it was a lovely sunny day and fhe vineyards still looked charming 😍 My advise is pick a few places to go so you are not rushing. Trams leave each vineyard every 30mins and you will be given a time table upon arrival. The staff on the tram will advise you on timings so you are back in time for coach home. Was anxious I wouldn't have time for Provence but was assured I would be fine, and I was 😀 Highly recommend this if you are looking for a safe and affordable transfer from the city and are keen to plot your own route.

Operator response

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the convenient pickup points, comfortable transport, and overall experience exploring the vineyards at your own pace. It’s great that you were able to make the most of the Blue Line, including the tastings, lunch, and unique experiences along the way. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again in the future.

Best views and experience in Africa

This was a special experience. We spent a week in South Africa and this was our last experience. It made our entire trip. What a memorable ending to a wonderful experience. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for the most gorgeous views in all of South Africa and anyone who enjoys the best wine in the world. 10/10!!

Confusion on the tickets...

Confusion on the tickets then about bus needed instead of tram to first vineyard. Timetable given out in Cape Town didn’t match timetable given out at tram terminal.

Operator response

Thank you for your 4-star review and for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate it and will escalate your comments to the relevant department for further review. We hope to welcome you back on board soon.
