Located in the municipality of Tepeyahualco, it is considered the most urbanized city of pre-Hispanic Mexico due to its highly elaborate planning and symmetry in all its structures. The city was built atop a volcanic lava flow and was discovered in the mid-19th century, though it is believed to have reached its cultural peak between 150 and 200 AD, spanning approximately 867 hectares. Cantona stands out from other Mesoamerican urban centers for its complex and efficient road network; it is estimated to have had around 4,000 streets connecting the population, as well as pathways leading to fields, quarries, reservoirs, and other towns. It also featured 20 ball courts.

This was definitely one of the greatest tours we have done in any country! Our tour Guide Aaron is very knowledgeable on everything, we learned so much more than we thought with this tour, Cantona is amazing full of rich history we actually liked it more than Teotihuacan. The transport was also great, clean vehicle and easy pick up and drop off. a really good driver too. They took us to a restaurant halfway through the trip and it was delicious.
This is a really incredible “less traveled” archeological destination and it’s worth every penny. The lagoon was also a very beautiful and scenic stop.
