Essence of Hungarian Rural Beauty: 5 Hour Balaton Private Tour

Description
Lake Balaton is the essence of Hungarian rural beauty. Hungary's version of Provance or Tuscany. You will enjoy stunning views, the most beautiful village in the country with century-old whitewashed houses. The driving time is about 90 minutes. Then we use the ferry to cross the lake (together with the car), where you can already enjoy the beautiful view of the Lake. The ferry takes us to the nicest part of the lake, a quaint village with the best views.

Itinerary
This tour is super beautiful now (April) Beautiful spring greens, flowers and blossoming trees. Good weather and no crowd. First stop at the lake: an unforgettable view of Lake Balaton.
The pearl of the Balaton is the Tihanyi Peninsula. Thanks to the special attributes of its landscape, its geological idiosyncrasies, its diverse flora and fauna, it was the first nature protection area of the country. On one of its hills a church and a monastery were founded as early as a 1000 years ago. In Tihany you will walk around this charming and famous little town on the peninsula with the same name. Walk the streets of the most beautiful village in Hungary. You can also try the famous lavender products of the region, such as lavender beer, lemonade, ice cream.... It is hard to describe this serene, quaint village.
A baroque church and a monastery founded a 1000 year ago. (Almost. 22 years to go.) Optionally we can go in the building and have a look.
We drive to Lake Balaton (about 90 minutes, up to your location in Budapest), then take the ferry from the southern shore to the northern shore. We will do this on the way back too.
We can have lunch too, this is optional. This is also above the 5 hours time planned. It takes about 20 minutes to get the food, plus the time eating it and getting the bill.

Lake balaton is a beautiful place. There are many picturesque spots. Attila was great guide and was very tolerant. Genrally speaking the tour took place in Tihany (a village) and its surroundings. This trip is highly recommend. Pay attention that there about 1.5-2 hours driving to the lake
Thank you for the review! Yes, about 1,5 to 2 hours drive. However we can spend more time there, free of charge. (In many cases the tour is 6 hours, because of this.) If you don't mind a ride, a truly beautiful excursion. Finally, here is list, when travel time is about 30 minutes longer: On workdays, if we start our way back after 3:30 PM. On Saturdays in the summer, on the way there, between 9AM and 12 PM On Sundays in the summer, on the way back, after 2PM.
European cities are great to visit, but sometimes the best sights are just a short distance away. Lake Balaton is a pleasant drive out of Budapest, but a fabulous surprise awaits. What an amazing place! It is a hidden gem! The lake itself is a gorgeous acqua colour and it is so large that it looks like an inland sea. We travelled by ferry over the lake to Tihany which is an extremely pretty little village (lots of photos were taken) with some quaint cafes and even an upmarket restaurant, and naturally a few souvenir shops with some home-made wares. We had coffee in a beautiful cafe overlooking the spectacular view. We also stopped to see some Hungarian long horned cows which are protected, and we walked through a field to see lots of little ground squirrels playing and eating. We even stopped to eat mulberries growing wild. Many thanks to Attila for making our 5 hour trip so enjoyable! Highly recommend to anyone who wants a break from crowds and city tours.
Thank you Susan. We love this excursion too, every minute of it.
This was an excellent tour experience. This is not as long as some of the similar trips which was perfect for our packed few days in Budapest. Guide was extremely informative and felt safe when he was driving. The lake and surrounding village is beautiful and the lavender ice cream is a must try!
Thank you Hannah for your kind words. We also love the village on the hill at the lake, which is the most beautiful place in Hungary, outside of Budapest.
