Itinerary
Also known as Monument Hill, this is a fantastic spot to look over Edinburgh. From here, you’ll be able to see Edinburgh Castle, Leith, the Old Town and the New Town. You might recognise the Monument from pictures, postcards or Pinterest, and that’s exactly why you’ll love this part of the tour. It’s a beautiful spot where your guide can tell you all about the history of Edinburgh - and point out all the landmarks as you go.
A true hidden gem, Dean Village is somewhere you might miss if travelling alone. With Hopscotch, we’ll make sure you see all the best sights and make memories to last a lifetime. Upon entering Dean Village, you’ll be transported into another world, where cobbled streets and quaint houses sit on the banks of the Water of Leith. Historically, the village milled water and grains, and you can still spot many of the remains if you know where to look - and our guides do.
Although the New Town is not so ‘new’, it was originally built in the 1700s to give the wealthy a place to stay out-with the crowded streets of the city. All through the area, you’ll see typical examples of Georgian Townhouses and architecture and it’s now classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Old Town of Edinburgh is perhaps the most famous. Here you’ll get to see Edinburgh Castle, the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile and maybe St Giles’ Cathedral. The Castle is not part of the tour, but we can organise it if you’d like. We want to help you have the best, possible experience in Edinburgh!
At the top of this volcanic Cragg, you’ll get spectacular birds-eye views over Edinburgh and the surrounding hills. Your guide will point out the New Scottish Parliament Building and Holyrood Palace - the official residence for King Charles.
Contrasting old with new, Edinburgh is full of surprises. In Leith, you’ll get to see both sides with Edinburgh’s ports and docks. It’s also in Leith where Mary Queen of Scots’ first arrived back in Scotland after her time in France. You can imagine it looks very different today.
Get up close to the splendid Holyrood Palace as your personal guide shares its rich history, royal connections, and the stories behind its stunning architecture
Marvel at the majestic Edinburgh Castle as your personal guide brings it to life, pointing out its fascinating history, architectural wonders and breathtaking views up close.

Michael was excellent. He took us to places in the greater Edinburgh area we would not have found on our own.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear you had such a great time on your Edinburgh Tour with Michael. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
Our tour guide, Andrew Swain, is a very knowledgeable and professional guide. He explained every place and the history in details. Highly recommend booking with Hopscotch Travel.
Thank you so much for your kind review - it was a pleasure to have hosted you and I'm so happy to read you had a lovely time with Swain.
Wow, what a tour!! We had a private tour of Edinburgh by Hopscotch travel from the South Queensferry cruise port. Our guide Swain contacted us on the day of our tour to confirm pick up location and time. He was a great guide, very knowledgeable and fun. I use a wheelchair, and Swain was very helpful in finding accessible options for us to visit.
Thank you so much for your kind review - we're so happy to read that you had a lovely time with Swain. Safe onward travels.
This was one of the best tours we have taken. We were able to see the sights in Edinburgh at our own pace. I use a wheelchair part time. Our guide was very helpful in getting the chair in and out of the vehicle, and was able to give great directions for the path most easily accessible by wheelchair. I would highly recommend Swain from Hopscotch Tours.
Thank you so much for your kind review. Helping you is all part of the service and I'm delighted to read you enjoyed your day.
We did a day tour from Edinburgh, focused on architecture and manor houses. Michael picked us up from our hotel in Edinburgh and we saw Rosslyn Chapel, Abbotsford House, and Thirlestane Castle. This was a fantastic touring day - one of our best ever. The van was roomy, Michael was a great driver, and the sites were wonderful. We’ve had lots of good tour guides over the years, but few are as easy-going and fun to talk with as Michael. Do not hesitate to book with Hopscotch!

Wonderful time! Fraser was so amazing! We switched up our itinerary the day before we were scheduled, and he was very flexible. Our guide was fantastic and made traveling with a 4 year old a breeze. His warmth, knowledge, and flexibility made the experience fantasic! His warm engagement with our family made it exceptionally enjoyable. He visited Rosslyn Chapel and Glasgow.
