Itinerary
After departing the EBike Experience Store we will cycle across Gibraltar's runway and then along the cycle path through the tunnel which passes under the airfield
Catalan Bay (Spanish: La Caleta) is a bay and fishing town in Gibraltar, on the Eastern side of The Rock away from Westside. It is a nice spot to take some pictures and has an interesting history.
Europa Point (Spanish and Llanito: Punta de Europa or Punta Europa), is the southern most point of Gibraltar. On a clear day, views of North Africa can be seen across the Strait of Gibraltar including Ceuta and the Rif Mountains of Morocco; as well as the Bay of Gibraltar and the Spanish towns along its shores.
The Pillars of Hercules, (Spanish: Columnas de Hércules) was the phrase that was applied in Antiquity to the promontories that flank the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. The northern Pillar, Calpe Mons, is the Rock of Gibraltar. A corresponding North African peak, not being predominant, the identity of the southern Pillar, Abila Mons, has been disputed throughout history, with the two most likely candidates being Monte Hacho in Ceuta and Jebel Musa in Morocco.
The Gibraltar Nature Reserve (formerly the Upper Rock Nature Reserve) is a protected nature reserve in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar that covers over 40% of the country's land area. It was established as the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in 1993 under the International Union for Conservation of Nature's category Ia (strict nature reserve) and was last extended in 2013. It is known for its semi-wild population of Barbary macaques, and is an important resting point for migrating birds.
You will enter the vast natural cave to enjoy an immersive light and sound installation expressing layers upon layers of history fused with the Rock. These ancient clocks now lay dormant. The Awakening illuminates these sculptures of time and reawakens their hidden story. As you journey through the cave system you will encounter these giant ancient clocks brought back to life, vast hidden forms and towering flowstones that once again are in full motion. The experience culminates within the main cavern in a 360-degree projection and light spectacle.’
O'Hara's Battery is an artillery battery in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar and only accessible to hikers and bikers. It offers a fantastic view over 2 continents and 3 countries
Standing 340 metres directly above sea level. Gibraltar’s Skywalk offers breath-taking 360º views spanning three countries and two continents and links to other sites within the Gibraltar Nature Reserve, Upper Rock including the thrilling Windsor Suspension Bridge and the famous Apes’ Den via a series of walking trails.
Perhaps Gibraltar's most important tourist attraction, the Barbary Macaques are normally found in North Africa, but their presence in Gibraltar probably dates from the early days of the British garrison when it is presumed that they were imported, inevitably finding the rough limestone cliffs and scrub vegetation a congenial habitat. In fact, many legends have grown up around them. One is that they travelled from their native Morocco via a subterranean tunnel starting at St Michael's Cave leading down underneath the Strait of Gibraltar. Another legend claims that, should the macaques ever disappear, the British will leave Gibraltar. During the last war, natural causes had diminished the macaque numbers alarmingly. Fortunately, Sir Winston Churchill took a personal interest and additional animals were imported from Morocco. Today, in addition to the pack resident at Apes’ Den, there are other packs living wild on the steep slopes of the Rock. Gibraltar does not wish to lessen ‘the monkey experience’ but experts have warned that too much human interaction is harmful to these wild animals. Primarily because we want them to remain living as they are, in a semi-wild state, we strongly advise you not to get too close, feed or touch them. Finally, because they are wild animals, they may react violently and have been known to attack and inflict serious bites. By all means take photographs but please allow the monkeys to live a natural, free life for their benefit and the enjoyment of all. Just keep a safe distance, do not shout or make sudden movements.
The Great Siege Tunnels in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, also known as the Upper Galleries, are a series of tunnels inside the northern end of the Rock of Gibraltar. They were dug out from the solid limestone by the British during the Great Siege of Gibraltar at the end of the 18th century.
The Moorish Castle is the name given to a medieval fortification in Gibraltar comprising various buildings, gates, and fortified walls, with the dominant features being the Tower of Homage and the Gate House. Part of the castle itself also housed the prison of Gibraltar until it was relocated in 2010
Main Street is Gibraltar's main commercial and shopping district. It runs north–south through the old town which is pedestrianised and lined with buildings displaying a blend of Genoese, Portuguese, Andalusian, Moorish and British Regency styles, most of which have shops on the ground floor. Upper floors provide residential accommodation or offices. Tourists and visitors will find a wide variety of shops, many of which will be familiar from British high streets.

This excursion was an incredible way to see Gibraltar. We were able to go to parts of the rock that the big tours vans could not get to. Our guide was fabulous! The bikes were excellent quality. Highly recommend this activity!
It’s not easy going up the hills even with an electric motor. I am in my 70’s but we did it! It was great fun! I was proud that we could accomplish this!
We enjoyed the E-bike tour-it was an adventure and our body is feeling it!! Our guide took great care of us!! We enjoyed the beautiful city
We really enjoyed this e-bike tour with our excellent guide, Nabil. The route took us from the airport adjacent to the Spanish border along the coast to the southern tip of Gibraltar before heading up the rock, with stops at the stunning St Michael’s Cave, gun emplacements and World War Two tunnels. Also seeing the legendary macaques up close. The e-bikes took most of the work out of what would have been at the very least a strenuous climb (and our 64 year old legs could not have done it on ordinary bikes), and I think we had a lot more fun than the multitudes who were on bus tours - especially on the downhill hill run! However this is not the tour to try and use an e-bike for the first time! It’s worth knowing that this tour allowed only a rather brief visit to the WW2 tunnels- if you really want to explore them you will need to plan a separate visit.
This was a great ride to (nearly) the top of the Rock. What I really liked was that we had a "tail end Charlie" and also a leader, which kept our group together. Nabil was our leader and he knew his history! He was also a very personable guide. Loved the caves, and the views from the Rock were fabulous. We could see all the way to Africa! The tunnels were also a highlight. If you enjoy the outdoors and fresh air, this is a must do while in Gibraltar.
Had fun on this trip but bike needs to be the powered type not the pedal assist to get up to the rock. didn't make it all the way as too busy with cars and ran out of time. bit disappointed. felt rushed ( didnt go to ape den either or sky walk) to get back to shop and owner and guide just quickly took bikes off us to shut up shop.
Sorry to hear that we were unable to achieve the 5 star experience for you on this occasion. We do try to manage expectations as much as possible, there is a lot to see and in a mixed group we can only proceed as fast as the slowest rider. The description indicates that the eBikes we use are premium pedal assist, they are not electric motorbikes with a throttle. We also suggest moderate fitness is required in order to ascend the Rock with enough time to complete route. We try not to rush the tour but the group is on a schedule which we have to try to maintain. For more flexibility we offer the private guided tour option as well as self-guiding which may have been more appropriate for your requirements. Best wishes, Stuart
If the many bike and coach tours my wife and I have taken over the years, this was by far the best. Going by ebike was the best possible option. We zipped passed tour vans that clogged the narrow streets. We traveled on quiet bike paths not available to vehicles. Best of all we effortlessly breezed past dozens of exhausted hikers trying to hike to the summit. Our guide "Nabil" was excellent. Just the right amount of history, current events and humour. Very easy going, knowledgeable and fun. Overall, considering the fascinating history and significance of 'Gib' it was a great experience.
An excellent experience and a great way to see and visit some of the tourist sights of the Rock. Our guide, Nabeel, was thoroughly knowledgeable and entertaining. Whilst cycling on an e-bike to the top of the Rock is a challenge you don’t need to be a TDF cyclist to get there!
Don’t book if you don’t know how to ride an e-bike. It does require some experience. The tour was OUTSTANDING and our guide, Nabil, was friendly, considerate, funny and above all, very knowledgeable about Gibraltar. An extremely interesting tour and a wonderful ride around the ROCK!
HI Laura! very pleased you enjoyed your tour and we thank you for taking the time to reveiw. We suggest that no previous experience is required for the premium pedal-assist bikes we use, we give a very thorough briefing on how the bikes work pre-tour and the guide is available throughout the ride if there are any questions. Thanks again and wishing you safe travels! Stuart
This was my groups favorite tour of our 2 weeks in Spain and Portugal. Ian, our guide, was great and knowledgeable, and gave us a lot of information without over talking, like some of our other tour guides had. The biking was so much fun, challenging (because some areas were pretty crowded). He taught us how to make the biking easy to navigate, yet still exciting and brought us to many historical sites, teaching us about Gibraltars role in history. I highly recommend it. My husband and I are 67 and 66, my Daughter and Daughter in law are 40 and 31 and we all loved it!
hi Shari, it was lovely to meet you all. many thanks for taking the time to review, i will pass on to Ian. with best wishes, Stuart
