Eagle's Nest Hiking Tour

Description
The first time that Easy Company part of the 101st. Airborne division reached the hills of Obersalzberg most of the buildings in that area where destroyed. If you visit this area today you will see that a lot has changed, the forest has taken over and a big parking place leads people straight up the mountain. This tour is here to provide you with far reaching insight of the historical locations hidden in the forest, see the ruins of Hitler's house and other WWII sights that will bring history to life. Then hike up from there to the Eagle's Nest and you will following the steps of the first American soldiers that got there by foot in May 1945. Even though the Eagle's Nest is one of the most visited places in Germany our tour will take us thru a more richer and less traveled path. The tour is a mix world history, exercise and incredible landscapes. I take pride in offering the best possible experience to deliver professional and safe guidance in the mountains with a relaxed atmosphere.

Itinerary
The Eagle's Nest is located in the imposing summit of the Kehlstein mountain. Even to this date not such place has being build. People taking the tour will discover all the history behind its construction, win insight about the role it plays today in society and have the opportunity to explore the incredible landscapes of the Bavarian Alps.
This part of the tour is unique because the location is so rich historically, only if you know where to look. We will hike around the area of Obersalzberg, the place where Hitler and many other high ranking officers had their houses. The tour will give an insight of the historical importance of that area, how it was transformed into a nazi town and what decisions where taken there that affected the life of millions.

This was a wonderful and informative tour! Claudio is amazing and extremely knowledgeable! He provided tidbits of information that are not commonly known and showed pictures of the areas we were standing in as they were during the war. Claudio's English was is immaculate (far better than the very small amount of German I speak). I was unable to hike due to an injury to my knee, but he worked with us and we were still able to see everything even though we missed our on the hike.
What an amazing experience! My husband, 19 yr old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our time with Claudio. He is so caring and has great attention to detail. His enthusiasm for history is infectious. The concept of hiking and learning in the beautiful surrounding made it an unforgettable day!
A beautiful hike to the top. We particularly enjoyed the circular path at the top after the summit cross.
Claudio is the best . The man is knowledgeable of the area and its history . Also very warm welcoming and understanding. The tour surpasses my expectations. Get ready to walk and learn ! It’s worth it !
Thank you so much for your kind words. It keeps me pushing to share the historical importance of the area and the beautiful mountains. Safe travels, Claudio
Claudio is amazing! He is so passionate and knowledgeable. Not only about WWII and the local area but also about the relevance to current politics. He took us to find hidden historic ‘off-the-beaten-track’ spots on the hike up to the Eagles nest. He shared his vast knowledge all the way along the hike, indicating viewpoints of beauty spots and rest areas. He even brought us a few energy bars to replenish energy levels along the way. The eagles nest itself was quite an experience too.. very much enhanced and put into perspective by Claudios knowledge and ‘carry-along’ archive of historic photos. Having told Claudio about my husbands 50th birthday he had brought along two miniature champagne bottles to open at the top… such a nice touch. We decided not to eat at the top (it was very hot and the heat took away the hunger) and took the bus back down where Claudio continued to show us the site of the Berghof area (Hitlers actual house and military HQ) and the tunnels underneath. At the end of the tour we looked back up to the Eagles nest and realised the distance and elevation we had covered and were quite staggered by the achievement. You could just come and visit this area and just take the bus up and down but why would you do that if you could go with Claudio and really experience the area. 100% recommend doing this tour. It’s worth every penny.
I can’t recommend this experience enough. Walking to Eagle’s Nest gives you such an appreciation for the area Hitler spent so much time in as well as the task set before the British and American forces in penetrating the area with bombs and eventually, on foot. I knew from the start we would be gaining important contextual knowledge from Claudio, a warm (and fit!) fellow that is highly focused on his guests’ comfort, and safety. His passion for the history and all aspects of the Nazi’s rise to power was obvious. We saw and learned things I am still thinking about long after the end of the tour, like the darkness and beauty of the human condition that exist side by side. The beauty of Berchtesgaden, seat of the Third Reich. Thank you, Claudio! Pictured is the exact view Hitler would have seen from the office of his private residence.
Thank you so much for your kind words and your appreciation of the work put to create this experience. History is the greatest study of the human condition and through understanding our past we can understand our present better. Welcome back any time and safe travels, Claudio
Amazing experience. Claudio was fantastic. He has an excellent knowledge of the history of WW11 and of the area. The tour was in depth, we got to see areas that most tourists would not even know existed if you had not been on the hiking tour. The hike was not bad, almost 5 miles from starting point. Claudio went at a nice pace stopping and taking breaks and sharing information. He knows when to stop and when to keep going. I would recommend to anyone wanting to have a a great day and learn and understand more about the the war from years before war started to after it was over.
Thank you Robin for taking time to drop us a review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your hike and the historical insights of the tour. The area of the Obersalzberg and eagle's nest has a rich history and it was my pleasure to have been able to share it with you. Welcome back anytime and safe travels. Claudio
I can’t think of how this could be better. You will see things you won’t see anywhere else, understand the context of the place and time in such a well structured way! Must do
Thank you so much for your kind words. We take pride in delivering a unique experience and insight to this very important chapter of human history. Greetings from the Alps, Claudio
This was one of the best experiences of our trip to Germany. Claudio is incredibly knowledgeable and excited about the information. He brought us to some special places that people would not know about. He kept the perfect pace for us as we switchbacked up the mountain. The views at the top were all the more rewarding and spectacular because we walked it. We highly recommend taking this tour. A few pieces of information to keep in mind; it is a walk on a gravel/paved pathway. We wore hiking shoes but would have been fine in good sneakers. The walk took 2.5 hours and it was all uphill. You need good legs! Bring a small snack and water along.
Claudio provides an excellent narrative and overview of the history and significance of Eagles Nest and Berchtesgaden. Definitely recommended.
