This is a must do experience for Downtown Abbey fans. Jed was so passionate and knowledgeable about the actors and filming locations. He made the tour so fun. We toured inside the Castle, enjoyed a high tea experience, dropped some cash at the wonderful gift shop. The place is stunning, you do feel like you stepped back in time. My favorite was the great hall . And visit to the village church The tour included an Egyptian museum in the underground of the property. It was fascinating to read real archeologists notes.
Absolutely loved this! We love the show and made a family trip here!!! So worth it! Got to walk the house and the gardens and had time to eat and have refreshments on the lawn. We got great photos and memories we will always cherished! Only one thing they may want to add- play the theme song as we come upon the abbey for added effect!👍☺️
Our tour guide Chris was snarky, and the village stop felt rushed. Would recommend skipping this tour.
The coach was an easy, comfortable way to visit Highclere Castle and the village. The information we received en route was most helpful. There was a rest stop on the way, plus an opportunity to get lunch at the village butcher shop. I got the coronation chicken sandwich, which was delicious! Thank you so much to our guide and driver for a wonderful day.
Loved it! Perfect amount of time to get what we wanted done. Informative but not too much, plenty of chill time too.
We enjoyed this tour but felt that the Highclere Castle part of the tour was a bit less than we expected. This was in no way the fault of Brit Movie Tours, it was the way Highclere has chosen to run the tour. A staff member gave a short introduction to the castle as we entered and then we followed a route through several rooms, both upstairs and downstairs, and there was a sheet in each room with a brief description of the room and a docent was available if you had a question. She did not address the people in the room unless asked. I'm sure they've decided on this approach as they can move a lot of people through quickly. We'd been to another house museum the day before and the docents spoke with the groups in each room so we received much more information about the different generations, history of the house, etc. In Highclere they had many photos and paintings of the family but no explanations, etc. for those of us who were interested in a more detailed history. Again, we could ask the docents but usually they were engaged with someone else (for a very long time) or talking between themselves. We think for the price of this ticket the Egyptian museum downstairs should have been included or at least an option. We got mixed in with a group going to the museum but when we got close, thinking we would buy that ticket then, we were told that we had to go back outside to the gate entrance to purchase it, and our time was too short (after we'd already waited in line) to do that. Sorry to have missed that. The Bampton Village part of the tour was wonderful. Our guide was very good. Our bus had an issue with people talking loudly while the guide was trying to talk (he always had a microphone) and he worked very hard to ask them to stop talking so others could hear. We felt that Brit Movie Tours did a good job, just feel that Highclere should rethink their approach to the tour. They certainly had ample staff to do a more detailed explanation of what we were seeing. This tour was much better than going on your own because we had our guide to explain what the docents did not. Brit Movie Tours showed scenes from the show, played Downton video on the bus. All of this was excellent. They also offer a Downton Abbey in London tour that we thought was exceptional.
Tour guide, Jed, was fabulous. He had tons of back story tales to share. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It was awesome! From the comfortable bus to our knowledgeable and very fun tour guide Eva, it all was perfect! The castle is just like we expected and more. Seeing the village of Bampton was a treat. Great value for the price. It is a couple of hours of travel but you had enough time to see it all. The size of the group was just right.
This was a perfect adventure! Russell our tour guide was excellent… very knowledgeable and fun! He kept us entertained with Downton Games and videos!
We are tremendous Downtown fans so Highclere was a must do for us. It was gorgeous. The tour had a lot to offer of the English countryside. The tour was way better than we expected.
