Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece, originally called Karyai (also spelled Caryae). Its name is of South Slavic origin and denotes a place with walnut trees. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions, and its proximity to the town of Delphi. Arachova has a panoramic view, uphill small houses, and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. The town center includes a huge and steep cliff, the Bell Tower, covered with dense ivy. At the top of the tower is a large 10m height clock. Arachova is famous for its black wine, its "brusque", the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts, and woodcut creations as well.
Livadeia is a town in central Greece. It is the capital of the Boeotia regional district. The area around Livadeia is mountainous, with farming activities mainly confined to the valleys. The area has traditionally been associated with the production and processing of cotton and tobacco, as well as the cultivation of cereal crops and the raising of livestock. The city is also known for having participated in the War of Troy in allegiance with Mycenae.
Mount Parnassus is a mountain in central Greece that towers above Delphi, north of the Gulf of Corinth. Mount Parnassus offers many advantages to the population of Greece. In peace, it possesses scenic views of the countryside and features olive groves and rolling hills. The mountain is also the location of historically, archaeologically, and culturally significant places of interest (such as Delphi). Recreationally, the slopes of Parnassus provide a medium for hiking (in the three warm seasons) and are skied in winter. Its melting snows provide water to the surrounding communities, reaching out as far as Athens. The mountain is composed of limestone, and its rock contains bauxite, ore that is rich in aluminum. In war, Parnassus has been a center of resistance if need be, providing cover and refuge to partisans.
Arrival at the archaeological site of Delphi after a 2,5 hours trip. Free time for a walk at: - sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia - ancient stadium and theater
Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era. Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos. The exhibition floor space is more than 2270m2, while the storage and conservation rooms (mosaics, ceramics, and metals) take up 558m2.
Αn intriguing architectural marvel nestled within the archaeological site of Delphi. Tholos provides us with a window into the ancient world and the rich tapestry of beliefs and traditions. The Tholos of Athena Pronaia is a circular building with a distinctive architectural design, featuring a ring of Doric columns surrounding a central chamber. Built in the 4th century BCE, this unique structure served as a sanctuary dedicated to Athena Pronaia, a variant of the goddess Athena worshipped in Delphi. Stand before the elegant columns and intricate stonework of the Tholos and imagine the awe and reverence it inspired in ancient worshippers. In the shadow of Mount Parnassus and overlooking the sacred precincts of Delphi, this sanctuary would have been a focal point for religious rituals, offerings, and oracular consultations.
The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 4th century BC; it is the third temple built at the same place. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia. Some ancient writers state that the Pythia then entered a state of delirium and uttering inarticulate cries, which were then turned into equivocal oracles by the priests. This interpretation is controversial, and has been challenged by scholars such as Joseph Fontenrose and Lisa Maurizio, who argue that the ancient sources uniformly represent the Pythia speaking intelligibly, and giving prophecies in her own voice.

Mike (Menelaos) was a wonderful guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable. There's a good amount of driving (about 2.5 hours each way), and Mike kept things interesting by previewing what we would see and telling about Greece. As first-time visitors, we found Mike to have a wealth of information while always being informative and funny. Delphi in my mind was a can't miss. I recommend seeing the museum first before seeing the archaeological site, so you'll have a better understanding of what the site holds. Either way, Delphi was amazing and really gave us a feeling of what it would have been like to make it up the mountain to hear the oracle's answers to your deepest questions. The atmosphere at Delphi was really special. The admissions fee seemed fair, and it was much less crowded than the Acropolis in Athens.

Seamless experience from booking to the actual journey. We travelled with a toddler and the best thing was the flexibility with regards to being able to stop when required and complete the day at your relaxed pace made our day. Mike who was the our driver for the day was so much fun and easy going the 2 and half hours felt it passed very quickly. He was super informative about the tour, the place and also general history of Greece. We took about 2.5 hour on the site and the museum and we returned back to Athens as smooth as we went from Athens to Delphi . Wonderful place , wonderful driver and a happy vacation for us with our 2 year old.

We had an amazing time on this tour! Our driver, Dimitri, was incredible! Very friendly, kind, and accommodating. He drove us through beautiful tiny mountain towns to get to the archeological site. Both the museum and site were worth the trip. Hard to believe that anyone could build such an impressive complex. After Delphi, Dimitri drove us to a small restaurant overlooking the Caspian Sea. Simply breathtaking. After lunch, he even dropped by a local honey store where we tasted the most amazing local honey of all different flavors. If you are looking to escape the crowds of Athens and want to see the local countryside while also taking in an incredible archaeological site, then this tour would be a great option.

Menerans (aka Mike)was an outstanding guide for my daughter and me. He was punctual, professional, and shared fascinating Greek history that made every stop more meaningful — he even educated us on each destination before we arrived, which we loved. Beyond his knowledge, what impressed me most were his manners and work ethic. He kept the conversation pleasant, paid attention to every detail, and made my daughter and I feel completely comfortable and safe throughout the trip. Mike made our experience truly special. I recommend him without hesitation!

We had an incredible experience on our full-day private tour from Athens to Delphi with our guide, Costa. His knowledge of Greek history, mythology, and the region was truly impressive, and he brought everything to life in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. What made the experience even more special was how well he connected with our children (5 & 7 yrs old). He made the history accessible and fun for them, keeping them interested throughout the day while still providing plenty of depth for the adults. Costa struck the perfect balance of being informative, personable, and attentive, making the tour enjoyable for our whole family. After visiting Delphi, we stopped at a fantastic traditional Greek restaurant for lunch, and the food was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for a memorable, family-friendly tour of Delphi, we couldn’t recommend Costa more highly. It was one of the highlights of our time in Greece!
