While this is not well trodden tourist destination, our guide could have gone the extra mile to cover some of the engineering marvels. Nothing was covered, even the canal was not shown!! Tanis was beautiful - must be done to connect all the historic dots from Cairo- our Guide came to life there - he could actually read Hieroglyphic - and did an exceptional job. No lunch was provided even though advertised - we had to incur lunch expenses on our own
Fantastic tour with Walid! He is very knowledgeable and has a great understanding of both Egyptian history and various cultural beliefs to help understand the history of what we were seeing. He and the driver went out of their way to get us falafel sandwiches, coffee, and fruit. Had a great meal at the fish market. Freshly caught fish and shrimp was a great recommendation. As a tour guide myself in America, I appreciated Walid’s knowledge and care throughout the day.
Thank you
This was a very interesting and well organised day trip from Cairo. I was picked up early in the morning and travelled north-eastwards to Tanis, a former capital of Ancient Egypt. Although there are no intact buildings, the complex is extensive and has many fascinating obelisks, statues, wells, and graves to explore, a particular plus being that you have the site almost to yourself. The trip also included a visit to the Suez Canal, and a fantastic (optional) lunch at the local fish market. Also amazing is the whole surrounding delta area with lagoons, canals, orchards, villages, and farms, which give an unforgettable insight into rural Egypt. The guide, Mr Waleed, was a fountain of knowledge and was extremely helpful. As was the driver, Mr Bills, who made the trip comfortable and safe. Definitely highly recommended for those who want to experience something different.
