Compassion Costs Nothing

We booked KUZÁ Water Park because it was advertised as a family-friendly destination. Although it was one of the most expensive excursions we booked during our cruise, we chose it because we wanted our entire family—including our autistic son—to have a fun and memorable experience. Our son is autistic. Like many individuals on the autism spectrum, he struggles with long waits, extreme heat, and sensory overload. We anticipated this and came prepared with portable fans, snacks, drinks, and everything we could to help him stay regulated. Despite our best efforts, the prolonged wait under the hot sun became too much for him. He cried, became distressed, and had a meltdown. It is important to understand that our son was never aggressive. He was not hurting anyone, threatening anyone, or putting anyone in danger. He was simply overwhelmed. Instead of asking how they could help or showing compassion, one of the KUZÁ guides approached us and said, “Not to offend you, but can he ride the bus considering we have more than 20 people inside and I will be speaking through the microphone?” What stood out to me was that the guide seemed more concerned about being able to speak on the microphone without interruption than about the fact that a child with a disability was visibly overwhelmed and struggling in the heat. I explained that yes, our son could ride the bus and that he was simply having a difficult time because of the heat and the long wait. After we continued waiting outside in the heat, another KUZÁ guide spoke with our cruise excursion representative, who then came to ask us essentially the same question a second time. At that point, it felt like they were trying to determine whether our family should be removed from the excursion because of our son’s disability. As a parent, that was heartbreaking. I explained that our son is autistic and that sensory overload is a real part of his disability. Waiting for an extended period in extreme heat would be difficult for many children, but for children with autism, it can quickly become overwhelming. The cruise excursion representative listened with empathy, understood the situation, and treated us with respect. Unfortunately, we did not receive that same compassion from the KUZÁ staff. There was no apology, no reassurance, and no attempt to understand or accommodate a child with a disability. Being family-friendly means more than offering activities for children. It means welcoming all families, including those with children who have disabilities. It means training staff to recognize that autism looks different in every individual and responding with patience, empathy, and understanding—not making families feel like they are an inconvenience or a liability. No family should ever feel that they might be removed from an excursion because their child has a disability. Our son deserves the same opportunity to enjoy a family vacation as every other child. He cannot simply “turn off” his autism, and he should never be made to feel unwelcome because he became overwhelmed. I sincerely hope KUZÁ takes this feedback seriously and provides disability awareness and autism sensitivity training for all staff. A little understanding and compassion could make an enormous difference for families like ours.

Rude Staff Worst Beach Experience

This was the most disappointing beach I have ever visited. We purchased the all‑inclusive Beach Day Premium Pass. When we arrived, we were told to wait for a trolley that would pick us up in a few minutes. It didn’t arrive for about 15 minutes. We were dropped off near a restroom and a pavilion where food was only served to specialty groups—not to the general guests. One person in our party had a severely sprained ankle, yet we were told that if we wanted food, we would have to walk down the beach. It wasn’t a short walk; it was a long walk. When we finally made it, we found chairs, but the surf was so rough that no one was in the water. Our pass included one activity, but staff said the surf was too rough and refused to honor any of them, including paddleboards and kayaks. I asked another employee if I could rent a kayak, and he offered one for $30. So I could rent one, but not use the one included in my package? I also asked about sand toys—another $30. Everything seemed to cost $30 on top of the admission. We felt uncomfortable with how many times the massage staff approached us, even after we repeatedly said “no thank you.” The food was terrible. Flies were buzzing all over it. I had seen YouTubers’ experiences at this beach, and what they were served was nothing like what we got. The food was bland and boring; most of us only ate chips. The drink staff was nice, but they kept reminding us that only a small section of drinks was included. The drinks themselves were awful. The alcohol drinkers in our group said they were watered down and tasted terrible. One beer drinker had twelve beers—he normally feels a buzz after five—and felt nothing. I don’t drink alcohol due to allergies. At one point, a staff member brought me a “non‑alcoholic” drink that actually contained alcohol. I sent it back. I watched him speak to the bartender, and they simply set the drink aside, then picked up and brought the same one back a few minutes later. Because of my allergy, even a tiny amount of alcohol causes my throat to burn and my stomach to feel nauseated. At that point, I had had enough, and we headed to the tram pickup to leave. When we arrived, about twenty people were already waiting. One man asked an employee if the tram was actually on the way. The employee said yes. The man explained he was going to be late returning to his ship because he had already been waiting thirty minutes. The employee rudely told him, “Well, if you don’t like it, you can walk.” A tram eventually arrived, but we were told it was for employees only. We waited longer… finally three trams arrived at once. Why weren’t they spaced out? Overall, this was a frustrating, uncomfortable, and disappointing experience from start to finish.

Operator response

Dear Zipstar Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to learn that your experience did not meet your expectations. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you encountered regarding transportation, accessibility, food and beverage service, and the communication about the activities included in your package. Guest safety is always our top priority, and when sea conditions are unfavorable, certain water activities may need to be restricted. However, we understand how disappointing this can be when it affects planned experiences. We are especially concerned by your comments regarding the handling of your non-alcoholic beverage request and the service interactions you described. These are not the standards we strive to provide, and your feedback will be shared with the appropriate management teams for review and improvement. We appreciate your recognition of our beverage staff's friendliness, but we regret that the overall experience left you feeling frustrated and disappointed. Thank you again for bringing these matters to our attention, as feedback like yours helps us identify opportunities to improve the guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to better serve you in the future. Bets Regards

Perfect Cruise Excursion

If you are looking for a beach that comes with food, drinks and an adults only section while you are in Cozumel for a day, Kuza is your place! Cruise excursions are so overpriced so I always find them on my own. Just leave early so you have plenty of time to return to your ship. We got a taxi at the port and the driver stayed there with us until we were ready to head back.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this awesome review and for the great tip for fellow cruisers! 🚢💙 We love that you found us on your own, that's the spirit of a true explorer! 🌴 And you're absolutely right, leaving early gives you more time to enjoy everything Kuzá has to offer, the beach, the food, the drinks, and our adults-only section! 🍹☀️ How sweet of your taxi driver to stay with you, Cozumel locals are the best! 🏝️ We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to the island. Until then, keep exploring and living your best beach life! 🐚🌊 Kuzá Team

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

GOOD: What a beautiful resort. When you arrive the first thing you notice is amount of lounge chairs and palm trees. No problem finding a shady spot. The beach is long and the water is beautiful. BAD: MUSIC: The music is throughout the resort and it’s not too bad but you can’t get way from it unless you pay extra for VIP, which btw doesn’t have nearly as much shade or palm trees. The DJ had the music so loud that you couldn’t get away from it even when you’re in the ocean. The music area has the better access to the beach, close to the bar and buffet area. Just don’t expect to be able to have a conversation or be able to relax without having to pay extra for VIP. SERVICE: Even though you are directed to the bar, don’t get your drinks yourself or you will get a very rude server. Apparently they don’t like it when you get your own drinks and they will let you know it. The resort was not busy at all so I expected to see our server more often but that was not the case. If you want better friendly service, food delivered etc, purchase the VIP for an extra $99 per person. UGLY: DRINKS: The few choices of mixed drinks are watered down and you had one beer of choice. What if you don’t like the beer or limited choices of mixed drinks? Upgrade for an extra $99 per person for VIP. See where this is going? FOOD: Hands down the worst buffet I have ever been to. I didn’t expect top notch food, it is a buffet, but omg the food was horrible. The chicken was so hard I couldn’t even cut into it, the rice pudding was more like rice soup, the cheese quesadillas were cold, the cheese for topping was runny, like they added water to it to extend it. The chips were good. CONCLUSION: Why was everything so bad? Was it because it was a slow day or is this just standard to push you into purchasing the VIP? I did notice that several VIP’s moved to our area and I’m assuming it’s due to the lack of shade in the VIP area. Don’t waste your vacation day and money. Go to a resort where you can have better food, more choices in beer and non watered down drinks and friendly service for the same base price.

Operator response

Dear visitor Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the beauty of the resort, especially the beach, palm trees, and availability of lounge areas. However, we are genuinely sorry to learn that other aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations. Regarding the music, service, food, and beverage experience, we understand how important it is for our guests to feel comfortable, relaxed, and well attended throughout their stay. Your comments about the volume levels, staff interaction, food quality, and drink variety have been noted and will be shared with our management team for immediate review. We also regret any confusion or inconvenience related to the VIP experience. Our intention is to offer additional options for guests who prefer upgraded services, but never at the cost of the standard experience feeling limited or unsatisfactory. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a much better experience. Bets regards

Abominable tourist trap

An abominable tourist trap! Food was awful. Drinks were a mix of artificial colors and flavors. Guards with whistles telling you to not do anything fun. Avoid at all cost!

Arrive early before the cruise excursion group. Quiet beach at one end. Alcoholic drinks very watery. Limited food choices on buffet as they wanted you to order extra items from the menu. While we enjoyed the beach, would not go there again.

Operator response

KUZÁ Beach Experience

I had a great experience overall. Waiters will bring you drinks 🍹. You will need to go get your food at the restaurant. The buffet was excellent, with lots of food choices and something for everyone. The beach was clean and well maintained. The water near the shoreline wasn’t very clear, but if you swim a little farther out, the water becomes much clearer and more enjoyable. They also have a water park and a nice swimming pool available for an additional fee, which adds even more fun options for families and visitors looking for extra activities. Taxi 🚕 will take you there for $35 up to 4 people.

Operator response
