Bath is great - tour not without fault

It was not easy to follow the map on the skyline tour and I was dropped off a few minutes from the University stop and it was not explained that the American museum was on the university campus. Do your homework.

Easy tourist attractions

We did both tours around bath. You can hop on/off which we did. You get to see the main attractions easier than walking everywhere. Given headphones for running commentary on history of place.

Operator response

Dear gill w Thank you for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. We are pleased to hear that you were able to enjoy both tours we offer in this amazing city, and that you were able to make use of the hop on and off element to explore more. Don't forget to keep your ticket as you can get 10% off when visiting one of our other great destinations. Best WIshes City Sightseeing Bath

Doing the Grand Tour by Bus.

Would highly recommend this if visiting Bath with a short amount of time to see the sights. Our coach operator dropped us off and said we had just over 3 hours to look around before he picked us up again. Having previously visited Bath a few years ago we'd already seen the Roman Baths and Abbey, so with the limited time available we opted for the City and Skyline Tours (total duration around 2 hours). Whilst £ 45.00 for the 2 of us was a bit hefty given this is a 24hr ticket (it makes it expensive at around £ 11.25 per person per hour if your on a limited timescale). Having said that we wouldn't have been able to see all the sights that Bath has to offer the City Tour shows you all of the relevant places of interest within the City, whilst the Skyline Tour gives you wonderful panoramic views of the City and Surrounding area. Found the on board audio guide very helpful if at times we found ourselves looking back at something which we'd past and the audio was out of sequence with. Would definitely suggest you sit on the upper deck if you can as at this time of year views can be lost to those on the lower deck because the trees are in full leaf. Also suggest it would be the ideal way to see Bath if the weathers not so good. Our driver was OK helped us set up our audio equipment as we struggled to get any volume.

Operator response

Dear heedmaster, Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review. The tours are indeed a great way to discover the city when you are time limited. Upper deck seating gives you the best views, all whilst listening to the commentary steeped in history and fun facts. We are also pleased to hear that you found the staff helpful. We hope to welcome you on board in another city in future, Best Wishes City Sightseeing Bath

Disappointing in places

Expected more history and commentary rather than awful music. We did city and skyline tour. The driver told us off for not putting our hand out to stop him early enough. We thought they stopped at every stop. No stops were announced so we didn’t realise where we were. Nowhere near as informative at City Tours in York Chester and Bristol that we have done recently.

Operator response

Dear SueSpongeBob Thank you for the 4 star review, despite there being some issues you experienced. There should have been full audio, with limited music so we will definitely investigate this. As we share stops with other local bus services, the majority of stops are request stops. We will look to make this clearer to our customers. Best Wishes City Sightseeing Bath

Staff sat at the back of the bus on his phone instead of helping.

We had a stop over in Bath after having a few days in Cornwall. Twenty one of decided to do the city tour. The operations manager was there, he gave us a god deal. £409.00 for all of us, as long as it was on one transaction. Some of our party are elderly who couldn’t go up the stairs, so I sat down with them. There were two members of staff, one the driver and other a conductor/helper. As we set off the staff went to the back of the bus, sat down and watched videos on his phone quite loudly. Most of the elderly had difficulty with the audio. Instead the staff coming to help he watched me and continued to watch videos on his phone. During most of the journey I went round helping them, while he just sat there. I never saw any of the sights or heard the audio as I was busy helping everyone! The only time the staff got up is when a couple boarded the bus to check their tickets. I personally wouldn’t do the city tour as it was very busy, there is so much traffic. Plus they give you earphones so there is no personal touch as a person speaking gives you. It’s difficult for the elderly to figure how to work out the audio system. Staff are not bothered, there is no customer service. Plus they are reluctant to support you in anyway. The bus driver decided to drop the step to get off the bus after we came back, when clearly most of my group struggled with getting on. This was only done after a member of my group asked. The service was awful staff are mean and uncaring. They just want to take your money. They are unhelpful and rude. PLEASE PLEASE! read this before you decide to go on this bus tour, especially at busy times.

Operator response

Dear Kalcurly, Thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed review. We take all feedback seriously and it is disappointing to hear that your experience was not a more positive one. Unfortunately we do not currently offer live-guides, but do have the recorded commentary available in 7 languages. We appreciate that people enjoy the more personal touch that a guide delivers, so we will consider this in future. Due to restrictions in Bath, all audio does have to be delivered through headphones- we are unable to put this through a loud speaker system. The standards of customer service you have outlined within this review are certainly not the standards that we expect from our staff. We would encourage you to reach out directly to us at bath@city-sightseeing.com with some further details for us to investigate this. Best Wishes City Sightseeing Bath

Excellent Tour and Terrific Driver

The Bath Sightseeing buses are the best deal to see the entire town and the surrounding area. The audio tour was informative and fun to listen and learn. The ability to get on the City tour or the Skyline tour for 24 hours was great! The drivers were all friendly and knowledgeable. But Dennis saved me, so he's my favorite of the drivers. I left my backpack on the upper deck when we got off. And it was a bit of stress. But the buses cycle every 15 minutes and when Dennis came back with his bus, he had my backpack waiting for me! The drivers and the manager were super nice. I'm so glad we did these buses twice each!!! And thank you, Dennis, for being such a kind gentleman!!!

Beautiful ride with full Bath education.

Excellent value and best option to view and learn about Bath. The bus has many stops and a wealth of information and history via the headset guided tour. The hop on and off has great timed routes so we could see the inside route (1) and outskirts route (2) of the beautiful city.

Operator response

Dear Marisa, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you found City Sightseeing Bath to be excellent value and the best way to discover and learn about the city. Our hop-on hop-off bus tour is designed to give visitors easy access to Bath’s most important landmarks, combining convenience with rich historical commentary. It’s great to know that you made the most of both routes and enjoyed exploring both the city centre and the outskirts. The combination of multiple stops and the guided audio commentary really does offer a complete sightseeing experience of this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city. Next time visiting Bath, we recommend combining your bus ticket to explore the story of Frankestein at Mary Shelley's House. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you back on board City Sightseeing Bath again in the future! Kind regards, City Sightseeing Bath Team

Charged for 48 hour tickets that were not accepted due to no QR code being sent

We booked a 48 hour ticker for 2 adults and 1 child in Bath. The email came through on our phone while we were out in the city that our tickets were ready to use on 6/7, but there was no QR code attached on the email or on the link you clicked in the email that took you to the viator.com page. I tried to take a screenshot showing that 3 48 hour tickets had been purchased with the booking number, but no Hop on Hop off Bus drivers would let us on that 1st day without a QR code so we paid for a service we could not access during the 1st 48 hours. The drivers told us we should try to cancel the tickets through viator and buy then directly from them to ride the bus, but we were not able to cancel the tickets bc it was not 24 hours before the day they were to be used. Viator should refund the ticket cost for the 1st day of the 48 hour tickets as we were not allowed on the buses without a QR code that was sent on the 2nd day. I'm attaching all that was shown on my phone when the email was sent and on the Viator.com site, no QR code to use

Operator response

Dear Chrissy, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced accessing your City Sightseeing Bath hop-on hop-off bus tour, especially regarding the missing QR code on your Viator confirmation. We completely understand how frustrating it must have been not being able to board the bus on your first day despite having a valid 48-hour ticket. Please note that QR codes are essential for validating tickets onboard, and they should normally be provided immediately upon confirmation. In cases where they are not visible due to third-party distribution (such as Viator), this unfortunately creates an access issue that is not aligned with the seamless experience we aim to offer our customers. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and the impact this had on the start of your sightseeing experience in Bath. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as it helps us highlight and improve communication with our distribution partners to prevent situations like this in the future. We hope that despite this issue, you were still able to enjoy parts of your time exploring Bath with us, and we would love the opportunity to welcome you again for a smoother experience on our hop-on hop-off city tour.

Not suitable for non-English speakers

Although City Sightseeing usually caters to visitors from abroad, beware that the Bath Hop On Hop Off only runs in English (as at June 2026). The buses are all equipped with multi-language audio guide systems, so I assume they did have translations at some point but the current tour recording hasn’t yet been translated to other languages. Giving this a one star due to poor customer service we experienced when dealing with the company in relation to the matter. I would recommend to purchase tickets on sight only rather than online like we did.
