This was our last day of excursion and we were tired but we still enjoyed. The bus is properly air conditioned and a nice ride. Walking the ruins was very shaded-hot but at least not direct sun. Interesting to learn about Mayans-past and present-and see the temple ruins in person. Be prepared-ruins site is CASH only for souvenirs and food. Guides are local and very knowledgeable. No concern getting back to the boat on time.
The ruins at Chacchoben were amazing! The park is kept very clean and staffed well. Did not have AC at the shops there but the deep shade worked well enough. We applied bug spray but didn’t end up seeing any mosquitoes. There were some monkeys playing in the trees, and we saw some other mammal creatures on the forest floor. They let us climb the stairs. The ride out was about 40 minutes in a conditioned bus. We even were able to stop and get fresh fruit on the roadside. Come to Mexico and share in the love of history! Thanks to Friné for sharing her knowledge!
The excursion was great. The tour guide was really informative and we saw monkeys playing in the trees. It was tough navigating through the port to the taxis, but we were able to make it to the pick up location by asking a couple vendors how to get outside the port. From there everything went smoothly. There is one pretty big climb on at the ruins. You could skip it but it was worth the climb to see the last two pyramids.
It was an awesome place to visit. Learned a lot of interesting things. My family enjoyed it too. Would recommend.
We needed to walk out of the port to find the office. It’s a little bit of walk but not too bad. It’s a reputable tour company in that area. Our tour guide Gabriella was wonderful. She talked a lot about the region, culture and Mayan traditions. I wish we had little more time at the site but overall it was a great tour and happy I booked it.
A worthy trip for anyone interested in the local Mayan history. Excellent guide (Joel) and driver (Aquino) from Native Choice.
Stopped in Costa Maya for a cruise and really wanted to see the Mayan ruins. Cruise prices are ridiculously expensive and, through a little searching, found Toucan Tours. We decided to go and purchased the tickets 2 days before. Once we got to the port, we quickly found their pavilion (watched a YouTube video with someone walking there, so easily found the pyramid and walked across the street). Check in was very easy, there are restrooms to use before the tour. We were offered free cold water or soda while waiting to leave. We were on a large bus to the ruins and our tour guide, Carlos, was phenomenal. We got cold bottles of water, several times, and didn't feel cheated out of money in any way (overheard a tour guide for another company telling his group there was a charge for taking photos at the ruins, which was not true). Carlos was amazing while at the ruins, too, and gave us quite a bit of history and several minutes at each of the ruins before moving on. He had to stay for another group and did not come back with us, but kindly offered to take a photo of us before we left. On the way back our driver, Luis, stopped at a roadside fruit stand and the entire bus got to choose if they wanted to buy fruit (Carlos took our "orders" before the ruins so the order was ready when we were coming back). We got mango and pineapple and paid $5, and it was SO good (our bus was full with 42 people and the stop took less than 10 minutes, with getting our fruit and finishing, and the woman also collected the trash if we were done before we left). Luis made a stop to drop off those who chose to go back to the ship at the port and the rest of us chose to go to the beach. Luis drove us there and told us to meet back at the bus at 2:30 so we'd be back at the port with plenty of time until departure. Family and I chose to walk to a local restaurant and did not go to the beach. We also chose to walk back to the port after, so we did not meet back at the bus. We have agreed if we go back to Costa Maya, we will 100% book another tour with Toucan Tours. Cheaper prices and felt more personal. Carlos and Luis were amazing!! #Carlos'Group
Little on the short side, but you would hate to miss your boat Over all it was a worthwhile experience The direction on where to meet was a bit confusing....even asking the locals Forget the red golf carts....thata misleading Walk out of the port, out past security to the roundabout with the temple in the middle and go to that tour desk, that's where you check in at..
We had a great trip with Gabriella and Daniel today! The crew was very helpful and communicative prior to the tour, when we arrived and all the way through! The temples were amazing and we even had time to stop for fresh fruit on the way home! Thank you for taking care of our family!!!
Carlos was bursting with knowledge, eager to dispel the myths about Mayan culture. He was an incredible tour guide who brought history to life. Luis was an excellent driver, always ensuring the van's A/C was on to keep us cool after exploring the beach and ruins. Alma was so kind and caring, making sure everyone stayed together with the group and nobody got lost. It was an unforgettable adventure filled with amazing guides and unforgettable moments.
