Ismail Mahmoud is what I call the perfect guide. Accompanied by a very experienced driver we had an amazing tour day to the pyramids of Giza, Dashur and so on. Exceptional service, always at the right spot, emotional intelligence, lots of information on sights but never too much in order to get tired. Would definitely recommend, hands down.

I booked a day tour from Cairo to Saqqara, Memphis etc with Emo Tours. I was assigned this tour guide, Mirna, who is absolutely terrible. 1. Mirna barely explained anything except for the first portion of the trip. After the warm greetings on the car and explanation of the first 15mins in the first venue, she started to talk to us about Lunch which was weird cause we did not book for it. What she did was she suggested she bring us to somewhere to eat whcih she said just costs 20usd per pax. This was completely crazy as we had went to a restaurant the day before and we told her about it, she told us that place is super expensive, and it was only around 15usd per pax! She was completely taking us for a ride. That said, we politely rejected her, which was when she started to turn her head. 2. She started to just left us at the sites, and said 10mins etc. Rushing us even through places like memphis, telling us"be fast" and didn't even explain anything. Added on, she even popped the question half way through the trip, "how much are you going to tip the driver and me?" Which we tried to avoid this question as we were very uncomfortable, she started to be aggressive to point where we felt threatened we would be left without being returned to Cairo. 3. I would strongly suggest all to avoid Emo Tours. There is a hustle culture and tipping culture in Egypt, we can definitely understand. But what we cannot empathize is when we pay good money for a tour with good reviews, we get such a service. It really spoiled the whole day. Egypt is a place with fantastic history and monuments, and it has always been a dream to visit. We choose a private tour, was willing to pay more, but this is completely not something we had expected. We would have tipped them for sure, but by blatantly pushing us for it, and boderline threatening us, it was really unbecoming.
Took the base tour where I had to pay my own way for entry fees. The tour commenced on time with our guide Mazen. The plan was to make our way to Dahshur first to avoid the morning crowds at Giza. However, unfortunately the car broke down 30 mins into the trip and left us in the middle of nowhere waiting for a fix. The company responded quickly assigning a new driver (Zaber) and got us going again after a 45min wait. The company owner apologised and offered us a complimentary camel ride for when we would reach Giza which we accepted. The tour from that point on went really well. The pyramids outside of Giza are quite spectacular and without the crowds of Giza are absolutely worth the visit. We also enjoyed Memphis with the large statue of Ramses II and Mazen stopped at a shop to get us some falafel sandwiches which were absolutely delicious. The pace of the tour was perfect. We had one stop at a carpet factory with no pressure or hassling to purchase so we just viewed the process. The pyramids of Giza were the final stop but the camel ride was the highlight which I would highly recommend doing. The young man who led our camels took some great photos so we gave him a small tip for the effort. All in all the tour was really good value and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Mazen also dropped us off at a local falafel place he suggested near our hotel so we could grab another treat. Many thanks to Mazen for his commentary and great photo taking

We are two women travellers and booked with Emo tours after hearing good feedback from other women travellers. I was fully aware of what a visit to these very busy sites would imply in terms of touts trying to sell you stuff and tourists all around and I have to say I was truly surprised at how much fun I had today and how relaxed and pleasant the whole day was! First we got collected at our hotel right on time at 8am. Mahmoud El Wakeel was our guide for the day. He was a gold mine of information about ancient Egypt and answered very thoroughly to every question very patiently, in fluent English. He also went out of his way to make our experience enjoyable, such as getting me a doggy bag of fresh dates after I told him I love the dates at the restaurant for the lunch, and taking us for Turkish coffee and shisha for a little break between visits. Ahmed Salah was our driver for the day. He was very courteous, always getting out of the car to open doors and a very good driver (which is a very hard job in Cairo, you’ll see when you get there!) We first went to the Great Pyramid first in order to avoid the big crowds of locals getting there around 11 am. There were quite a few people but it really didn’t feel too crowded. Mahmoud always told us before visiting a site what to be aware of in order to have a good experience and avoid touts. We got to get inside the Great Pyramid and also the Red pyramid. Be aware that it requires a certain level of fitness and to not be claustrophobic! We did the 1h camel ride, which I was a bit skeptical of at first but ended up being quite cool and it brings you to a more remote site where you can truly take the best photos of the three pyramids aligned perfectly. Lunch at Saqqara restaurant was very tasteful and plenty. I had read the comments about the papyrus and essential oil factories visit that could have felt like places where you are pressurized to buy stuff but it was not the case. We were offered to go to these places but could just skip them if we said we weren’t interested, and weren’t pressured to buy stuff when we went (you will be showed a great deal of stuff to buy but you can easily just take the information, give a little baksheesh and walk away) Dashur and Saqqara we basically almost had the whole pyramids/sites to ourselves...they are overlooked by most tourists but definitely worth a visit! So overall we had a lovely day, felt like a luxury tour thanks to the care of Mahmoud and Ahmed!
