Hospitable and kind host family. Delicious food with lots of variety. Fun experience cooking and interesting to learn about Egypt's history.
This was a great experience. I felt like I was with family during the experience. I learned a lot about how to make Egyptian dishes while enjoying the company of the family. A very genuine experience. Highly recommend.
I had such a great time with Ahmed, his wife and his 2 lovely daughters! They make you feel at home as soon as you step inside their flat. The food we had/made was amazing, special mention to the baba ganoush! I am a vegan and Ahmed arranged everything according to my regime. I strongly recommend to try this experience to enjoy Cairo, its inhabitants and life there in a genuine and very agreeable way :)
This was a fun experience, as interacting with locals and learning about what life is like there can be some of the most enriching activities when traveling. Ahmed and Shorouk gave a warm welcome and were eager to talk and share about their lives, as well as take an interest in their guests. Ahmed explained that one of the main reasons they started hosting these evenings several years ago was so that their daughters would have the chance to meet people from around the world, which I thought was really cool and a pretty neat idea. Ahmed and his wife both speak excellent English, so there was very little language barrier. The food was plentiful and tasty, and included a handful of different typical Egyptian dishes for us to try. Shorouk did most of the cooking, and Ahmed also makes an excellent baba ganoush! While we did help with some chopping and a few other prep tasks, I would view this as less of a cooking class and more of a "cultural evening". That was perfectly fine with me, just know that it won't be an intensive cooking class in the way that some are. This was more of a chance to visit a local home, meet a lovely family, and share a meal together. Sometimes it can be hard to find authentic experiences in heavily touristed areas, but this is the sort of activity that you're likely to remember for a long time after your visit.
This wasn't just a cooking class; it was an invitation into the heart of an Egyptian home. Spending the afternoon with a local family provided a window into the local culture that you simply cannot get from a museum or a tour bus. The conversations were just as nourishing as the food—we discussed everything from daily life in Cairo to long-standing traditions, making the experience feel like catching up with old friends. As someone exploring the vegetarian side of Egyptian cuisine, I was incredibly impressed by the variety and depth of flavor. We prepared and tasted several traditional dishes, including: Falafel: Crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. Molokhia: A rich, silky staple that was fascinating to learn to prepare. Okra: A savory stew that was pure comfort food. Mahshi: These stuffed vegetables were a personal favorite—meticulously prepared and bursting with fresh herbs and spices. If you want to go beyond the tourist surface and truly connect with the spirit of Egypt through its kitchen, this experience is a must. High-quality ingredients, wonderful company, and memories that will last far longer than the meal itself. Highly recommended!
If I could give this tour a 10, I would! It was amazing. Our hosts were the kindest, most delightful, and informative people. We cooked, ate, exchanged stories, and laughed for hours. The food was delicious and authentic. There are no words adequate to describe this experience. PLEASE don’t miss this! We will never forget our new Egyptian family!❤️❤️
I had a great evening with a great family! Everything was super organized and I could gain a good insight into Egyptian cuisine ! The family was very welcoming and I felt very well looked after! Thank you for that!
We had a wonderful time cooking and eating with Ahmed and his family. The food was delicious, especially the Falafel and the Hawawshi. We also cooked something I had never heard of, like Molokhaya soup. The evening was filled with interesting conversation. Thank you for welcoming us into your home!
This experience was our favorite of all the things we did in Egypt! It is such a blessing to be able to see the city from a local’s perspective. We love that we got to build a real connection and ask questions about daily life. The class was private. I was worried about this because we had difficulty with getting an uber and were running late, our host sent us a welcome message through WhatsApp prior to departing our country and sent updates about the meeting place and what to expect so it was easy to give him a heads up. He was so understanding and accommodating with our late arrival and really made the class so special. We made so much food! We got to try all the well-known traditional dishes and they even sent us home with some YouTube links so we could try to make some of the dishes at home. A truly must do experience!
We felt so very privileged to get the chance to meet Ahmed and Shorouk with their 2 young daughters. A very memorable evening of cooking, great conversations and lovely dishes. Thank you for opening your home to us !
