On this private tour several activities are involved and different periods of ancient history of Egypt covered as you will visit the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Egyptian museum with its treasures, the oriental bazaar of Khan El- Khalili. You will ride a camel for 30 minutes in the Sahara Desert around the pyramids and you will have lunch in a local restaurant overlooking the pyramids.

Your guide will pick up you from your hotel at 8:00 AM to start your tour by visiting the Giza plateau where you visit the Great Pyramid of Cheops, pyramid of Chephren and Mycerinus. Take a few pictures from the panoramic area, before moving on to the Valley Temple and the Great Sphinx. Lastly, ride a camel for 30 minutes around the pyramids. Next, you will have your lunch in a good quality restaurant with set menu of grilled chicken/kebab and kofta, before proceeding to the Egyptian Museum. Explore the animal mummy room, the mummy portraits, the Royal Mummy Rooms (extra fee), and King Tutankhamen's jewelry. Afterwards, visit the famous Bazaar of Khan El- Khalili to live the oriental atmosphere and the experience of bargaining. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel after finishing the tour.

We decided to go with Travel Door because our time was limited, and we wanted a reputable tour operator. They are licensed and the tour operator we had was OFF THE CHARTS OUTSTANDING. He speaks excellent English and even Chinese, and grew up in Seattle, Washington--but his family heritage and lineage is heavily Egyptian. He is a Christian living and working very hard, and has earned a number of Egyptian Archeological licenses...and is an outstanding communicator! Drum roll....our unique, professional guide's name is "Michael" and he was worth every penny of the $280 we spent for a private tour for two people through his tour operator. He even hired a driver, and paid for all the major sites, and a nice, Egyptian lunch in front of the Sphynx (you pay for any drinks you might have). He also took us to a wonderland of Egyptian History which started in Memphis, rolled to Saqqarra (both excellent with Michael explaining culture, kingdoms and hyroglyphics), then onto the pyramids, Sphinx, and the Grand Museum. Importantly, he even took us to government regulated centers for the creation and sale of authentic Egyptian carpets, amazing Egyption body oils and scents, with a grand slam visit to a papyrus factory showroom where they show you how they make papyrus (and decorate it). We even tipped him and the driver generously because he worked fabulously and is a gift to Egyptian culture. FYI, this review is not paid by, or affiliated with any tour guide. We just love to see cool places. You can't likely do Rick Steve's self-guided tours and get the same experience from what may very well be a reincarnation of ancient Egypt in the name of this magnificent tour guide. Ask for Michael.
