This stretch of the Bergen Line takes you through ever-changing landscapes — from high mountain terrain to lush valleys, rivers, and traditional Norwegian villages. *On some dates, the train timetable may vary, and the train journey may take place in the afternoon instead. Relax in your seat and enjoy wide panoramic views as the train winds its way toward the west coast. The journey offers a peaceful and scenic transition from the dramatic mountains to the coastal city of Bergen, giving you time to reflect on the day’s unforgettable experiences.
The Flåm Railway is one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world. The 20-kilometer route between Flåm and Myrdal takes you from fjord to mountains through steep valleys, 20 tunnels, and past impressive waterfalls. With an elevation gain of 865 meters, it is both an engineering marvel and a nature experience you won’t soon forget. Enjoy the views from comfortable carriages as you travel through some of Norway’s most stunning landscapes.
Flåm is a small, scenic village located at the heart of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the majestic Sognefjord. Surrounded by steep mountains and waterfalls, it offers a peaceful atmosphere and some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. The village is home to the famous Flåm Railway, which winds its way from the fjord up to the mountain station at Myrdal – a remarkable train journey often described as one of the most beautiful in the world. In Flåm, you’ll have some free time to explore what interests you most – perhaps a visit to the charming Flåm Church or the Railway Museum, or simply a coffee and a sweet treat at a local bakery.
In Gudvangen, we board the boat that takes us onto the Nærøyfjord – one of Norway’s most beautiful and dramatic fjords. With steep mountain walls, narrow passages, and impressive landscapes, the fjord offers a quiet and unforgettable way to experience Norway’s nature. The Nærøyfjord is a branch of the Sognefjord and stretches for about 17 kilometres, with mountains rising up to 1,800 metres above sea level. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, this area stands as a remarkable example of Norway’s natural beauty. Sit back, relax, and take in the unspoiled nature around you!
Gudvangen is a beautiful and authentic village, nestled deep within the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord — a place that feels truly Norwegian. Surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls, the village offers a calm and charming atmosphere.
Tvindefossen is an impressive waterfall, standing 116 meters tall, known for its beautiful shape and the many streams of water cascading down the cliff. The waterfall has also gained a reputation for having “magical” properties – its waters are said to have a rejuvenating effect. This has made Tvindefossen one of Norway’s most visited natural attractions, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
The drive from Bergen offers stunning landscapes, with views of the beautiful Osterfjord and fascinating stories from your guide along the way.

Train to Flam had to seat reservations so we had to give up our seats to reserved passengers and everyone had to look for available seats which were not clearly marked.
The tour was spectacular, overall. I suggest the company to make the reservation of the chairs in the trains, unfortunately the company did not reserve the seats in the trains and we had to change our seats twice and it was very inconvenient. The guide was very friendly, patient and helped a lot, especially when changing the seats on the train.
Thank you for your feedback, and we are very pleased to hear that you found the tour spectacular overall and that your guide was helpful and supportive throughout the day. Regarding the train seating, we understand that having to change seats was inconvenient. In fact, we recently made the decision not to reserve seats on the trains and instead allow our guests to choose their own seats when boarding. The reason for this is that on the Vy train between Bergen and Myrdal, reserved seats do not always guarantee a window view and can sometimes be automatically allocated in the family/children's zone. We found that many guests preferred the flexibility of selecting seats themselves. As for the Flåm Railway between Myrdal and Flåm, all seating is unreserved for everyone, so passengers are free to choose any available seat. We appreciate your comments and will continue to look for ways to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible for our guests. Kind regards, Travel North Team
Great experience! Our guides were awesome. Really worth it if it is within budget. Great use of a day!
Thank you so much for your kind review! We are delighted to hear that you had a great experience and that you enjoyed spending the day with us. It is especially nice to hear that our guides helped make the trip memorable. Thank you for choosing Travel North, and we hope to welcome you back to Norway again in the future! Kind regards, Travel North Team
Usoa was a wonderful guide for the day! While there was a lot of time spent on a train and bus to and from the main attraction (Flam and Fjord Cruise), the guide was most engaging on the bus back to Bergen. It was a great way to see the amazing scenery on the west side of Norway. And the day I went, there were only 19 other people on the tour. It was a nice intimate gathering. Only "average" comment was the lunch. Basic salmon sandwich and filling.
Thank you for this thoughtful review. We are especially pleased to hear your words about Usoa — strong guiding can make a long day feel much lighter. We also always try to avoid making the day feel too crowded, which is one of the main reasons why in the summer months we take the train in the morning, to give guests a more comfortable overall experience :)
It is a well-organized tour of the fjord. Two scenic trains, a bus, and a boat that crosses it from top to bottom. It is a bit expensive, but it is worth it.
Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy to hear that the tour felt well organised and worth the experience. We also understand your comment about the price. We put a great deal of effort into keeping our tours as affordable as possible, even though this is not always easy in Norway. We are glad to know that the overall experience felt worth it for you!
Wow what a day. Firstly, this day was so well organised. You just had to turn up and everything was sorted for you. Effortless. The guides were very knowledgeable and polite, with a great sense of humour and did well to herd 30+ people around from bus to boat to train. First we took the coach to Gudvangen, few toilet breaks along the way and there’s also a toilet on the bus. Lunch was tasty and drinks included too. We took the boat from there to Flåm. Very smooth ride, lots of information about the landscape as you’re sailing along. Again toilets and cafe on board were brilliant. Limited things to do in Flåm but just enough to do in the time before the railway journey. Railway was great with spectacular views. Take a waterproof layer for any waterfall encounters - if you’re bothered by cold water! Would recommend this to anyone. All tickets for train were sent the day before and very easy to use. Any questions on the day, your guide will be able to answer.
everything felt easy and well organised for you from beginning to end, because that is exactly the atmosphere we hope to create. And your words about the guides managing the whole day, while keeping it informative and light, are genuinely appreciated. It is also lovely to hear that the fjord cruise, the railway, and even the practical details all came together so well for you. Reviews like this stay with us!
The bus ride was good. The lunch was terrible and rushed! Getting on the boat in pouring down rain waiting with 400 passengers was a nightmare!!! The train situation was confusing and crazy!!! You booked us on a late train when everyone else got on an earlier train! So we purchased another 2 tickets so we would not have to sit and wait in the rain for the later train!!!! The train was ok but we had no idea we had to change trains half way! Very little info was provided. I have taken many private Viator tours with friends that were great but this group trip was terrible. Will never do a group trip with you again!!!! Especially at your high cost.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you found the bus ride good, but we are very sorry that several parts of the day felt so frustrating. The weather and the busy boarding conditions at the boat are unfortunately outside our control, especially on one of Norway’s most popular routes. As for lunch, the tour includes a light meal as described, but we understand that it did not meet your expectations. Regarding the train, the booked departure is part of the planned itinerary, which includes free time in Flåm before the return. The change of trains is part of the railway route, but we understand that this should have been communicated more clearly. Thank you for highlighting this.
This was an exceptional tour! Alice was the best tour guide ever, and took care of every detail. Thank you for such a lovely bus-boat-Flamrail-train tour of western Norway!! ❤️
Thank you so much for these wonderful words ❤️ We are absolutely delighted to hear that the whole journey through Western Norway came together so beautifully for you. And your words about Alice are especially appreciated — taking care of every detail is exactly the kind of experience we want to create.
It was wonderful tour, very well organised, views on the cruise were amazing.
Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear that the day felt smooth and well put together, and that the cruise views stood out so strongly. Those moments on the fjord really do stay with you.
Very long day but extremely interesting and beautiful. The only drawback was lunch ,not very good. ...
Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you found the day beautiful and interesting. We would just like to note that lunch is described in the tour information as a light lunch. Even with this meal included, the tour remains one of the most competitively priced options on this itinerary.
